It's strange how there's quite a few comments under these videos telling tou guys how to watch the show. I've seen others react, and they've had a similar style of reaction to you and the comments usually give more grace as to people's interpretation and the way they watch the show. Maybe it's selection bias on my part, to be fair, but just to be sure, I hope you're enjoying the show and I hope that you continue to do so in whatever way is the most natural to you ❤
Love that part and the parallels of the earlier part of the episode and the implications you can get from how Shirley must have been feeling behind her collected mask. She pretends to be grown up but she's quite childish inside.

Dude some of these comments are so weird to me. I don't think a person should watch reactors expecting, or even wishing, that they react the exact way you want them to. These girls have shown already that they have emotional intelligence when it comes to taking in a show's depth relative to its conceit and theme. Frankly, I also didn't know what this show was actually going to do to me until a few episodes in.

This show is so good. It does such a good job of showcasing how much they love each other and the flip side, how much your family can hurt you. It’s so realistic and heartbreaking.

Don’t consider this a horror show/ghost story. It is a love story/family drama that is set in the context of ghost story. It really isn’t that scary, minus a few of the jump scares. I would focus more on the story than the scares, if that makes sense.
This is very true, but some people react differently than others to scary stuff and atmosphere. When i watched this with my ex for the first time she was in pieces and couldnt sleep that night whereas i barely jumped at the scary scenes. Its different for everyone, sadly for these two they seem to be more like my ex lol

It will come by the end. For now, they are just scared and trying to follow the story. Their attention is on what's happening in the background and expecting the next jumpscare.

Love this series so much that while this is a great episode and delivers the only real scare I got @12:49 (creepy stuff gets me, not jump scares), this is still imho the weakest of the series. Still at least an 8 out of 10 though, don’t get me wrong. Being followed by the 3-4 best is rough for it too.

You ladies are winding yourselves up way too much. You're scaring each other more than the show is scaring you. It's actually not all that terrifying if you can relax and just take it in. It's a drama with a few scary scenes per episode. It's not supposed to be terrifying all the way through. :P
that's simply not true cause you can't judge how other people experience it. for some people - myself included - the spooky haunting type of story is simply always scary. l cannot relax for a second cause the entire tone of the show - the colour grading, ominous long pauses, the ghost design - set me on edge. Sometimes a camera pan is just a camera pan and sometimes it's a scary moment and because I can never predict which it'll be I'm on edge prepared for the worst at all times. Many people's anxiety really gets triggered by this type of ever-present ominous undertone. I cannot watch stuff with ghosts and hauntings without being close to an anxiety attack (hence i'm watching the show through reaction channels). Meanwhile I watch Annihilation as a comfort movie and other people find moments in that movie scary. It just depends on what triggers your fear responses or feeds your anxiety, and that's a personal thing.

I feel bad for Shirley. She just wants to fix her family and has since she was young and she's like peak eldest daughter, taking on a third parent role. I think she sees her siblings and even her dad like they're her children or something. People can says she's making herself a martyr but as the eldest daughter in my family, I tend to do the same thing. Hers is worse though because they actually lost their mother.
We don't have a lot of time where their schedules align so we focus on the time they do have together to do shows and when they have some separate free time we sneak em in to watch solo movies. Finding time for double movies is a challenge.

Not sure if y'all are going to do any other horror series, but if this is a bit much for you the Fall of the House of Usher isn't quite as scary (since the stories are based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe, they've been around the block a few times. So-much-so that you'll probably recognize like 2/3 of them from Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes). It's still masterfully done, just not quite as nerve-wracking as other series like Bly Manor and Midnight Mass.

Keep in mind this was only the second episode we watched. We hadn’t realized or had been given enough from the show quite yet to see or know where the story telling was going. By episode 6 I cried the whole way through.
