I couldn't get this on my recorder. But have almost got it on my electric piano in oboe voice mode. Thanks for my inspiration. Your great oh GreyOwl...
wow.......... beautiful i would never have imagined playing this on the harmonica and i defenitely would not have imagined it sounding this beautiful is it a diatonic harmonica?
This was beautiful !!!! there's no words to describe the feeling. I played it along the Davy Spillane's performance and there is no error. Same thing but a little faster. It gave me the chills man!!!!
My father long played the Harmonica for the peaceful melodies. I considered following in his footsteps for many years and have been so inspired by your style and work that I now have my first Harmonica on order (Hohner Golden Melody in C)( at age 49). I would love to be able to play a tune like this one day and listening to your work will no doubt be part of my motivational routine to work hard at it. Where would a guy find the tabs for this song?
Thanks very much. It's a really nice melody to play and is a good practice piece as it uses a lot of notes up and down the harmonica. I have just added a tab of what I am playing in the description below the video (click on 'show more' to view the tab). The Golden Melody is a good harmonica and I have a few of them myself in different keys. The key of C is a good one to start with because a lot of online lessons use this key. Unfortunately, I am using a harmonica in the key of G on this song which is lower in pitch than the C, so you won't be able to play along with the video and sound the same notes as me using the tab. It's a great little instrument to play so have fun!
You can bend the notes sooo well, and I don't think it matters when you play certain parts slower than they would normally be played (due to difficulty?) because the song barely has any consistent timing to it anyway and it sounds really nice when you do it. I think the version by Davey Spillane is the best interpretation of the song and I would implore you to upload this version of the song if you reckon you could do it cause it really does accentuate the emotion due to the way it bends into the melodies more as it plays out. Joshua King Thanks man! I love this song and Davy Spillane's version was my inspiration for trying this out on harmonica. His playing on the pipes is sublime and gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. I did play it slower than Davy's version and would like to have had a backing track to play over to help with the timing but couldn't find one. I made every effort to replicate the sound and feel of the pipes but the trouble with the harmonica as you know is that it is a blow and draw instrument. It works great when bending notes but is not so good when trying to get that swooping sound when you have to go from a draw note to a blow note. You've tempted me to have another go at it sometime!
Yes it is possible on Chromatic but it won't be the same tab. The start of the song on a C chromatic would be +4+7+8-9+8-8+7+6-6+7-4--5+5-4-5+5 this won't be in key with me but it will give you a start to work the rest of the song out yourself. You shouldn't need any button presses.
That is utterly FANTASTIC. Love that tune. My acoustic group does a cover of it (search RED plays Lament). If you ever find yourself near Allentown, PA, look us up!
Fantastic rendition; thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks so much!
