it started so early between isaiah and jordan 1st was his college coach bob knight saying jordan the greatest he’s ever seen. 2nd. jordan taking over the hearts of chicago, isaiahs home town. 3rd. the all star game freeze out. 4th. same division and building rivalry. a dirty team meets a freak determined athlete
@Dats a paddlin they haven't been crying for 30 years. they revel in sweeping them so badly they walked off BUT if you're going to put them in front of a camera for a documentary and ask them questions about the pistons dirty play, they are going to answer. that was the point of the sit down. what good would it be if they asked them to speak about it and they all said 'no comment'. ??
The Pistons were dirty players. Larry Bird called Bill Laimbeer the dirtiest player of the league. He(and the rest of the Pistons to a certain extent)not only was physical but had intent to cause injury to the other player. Bird in an interview brilliantly points out the difference between physical play and dirty playing. I do not resent the Pistons success but is tarnished by the aforementioned reason, and that was they own doing.
The Bad Boys didn't just play physical basketball, some like Laimbeer were intentionally trying to hurt their opponents. The Pistons were reviled in every NBA city outside Detroit for their dirty play. That dirty play is why the media refused to vote Laimbeer into the Hall of Fame and that's why Isiah got banned from the Dream Team. The failure to shake hands was just a catalyst that summed up all the negative aspects to how the Pistons played. They were bad for basketball and, after being imitated by the Knicks & Heat, caused the NBA to change their rules.
Actually, we've been spoiled in the 90s. Some of the good from that era should have been transferred to this as this one lacks so much...Keep your heads up, guys! Will need it badly in the times coming.
I say this as a 90s Bulls and MJ fan...but Isiah and the rest of those Pistons players are missing a great opportunity to really turn the screws here. Whole country is following this series and many don’t even know the story. During these interviews they shud be saying, “Mike still mad about that? I don’t even think about him anymore.” That’s how u make a head explode. Lol.
I'm so sick of all these bias ppl y'all love Larry Bird didn't shake the Pistons hands when they beat them. Bird came out and said he never shook Magic hand because he hated the Lakers. Karl Malone personally trying to hurt Isiah Thomas he was selected. Just face the Fact the only play to beat Jordan, Bird, Magic. Zeek back to back champ. I hated the Pistons as a kid I'm from Detroit but u have to respect Him and the Bad Boys
I have mixed emotions about Isaiah. He definitely payded a severe price for the stunts he pulled like not shaking MJ's hand. What he said about bird & Magic. How his team played however there is a part of me that feels he had to be that way to become the champion he became cause those guys weren't just gonna give it to him. I suppose it's a double edged sword
Found a website that already got first 8 episodes of this doc, small spoil alert i think episode 7, 8 r the episodes Jordan talking about When he said ppl might think his a bad guy after watching this documentary, it highlights the FEAR Jordan instill in his teammates
Frenzy Act I, too, have seen episodes 5-8. Not to give away anything, 5-6 were good (can’t disclose the subject matter), but 7 was incredible and episode 8 could be one of the greatest things every produced n television. Unbelievable. Can’t wait for the reactions in a couple of weeks.
Zeke was a really extraordinary player - but he’s a snake ...I love that Lambo owns the black hat role and doesn’t care what you think. And I hated Lambo the player
Isiah deserved to be in the dream team, he could have replaced Mullin. But too many of the players did not like him like Jordan, Pippen, Magic, Bird, Malone, etc.
hated the pistons....but its passed.. They played dirty,,hard fouls meant to harm,,not just fouls..after play fouls..in todays game the pistons would all be thrown out ,,because flagrant fouls..!!!
well they wouldn't of played like that today...... They played the way that they did by using the rules not breaking them. So in today's game they would just be different.
Rich too is still holding onto that old school style kinda hate. I hate Willis Reed. I hate Jerry Sloan. Hell, first I loved Lew Alcindor and Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Then I realized the Bucks were in the West and he had to play my Wilt. I hated Kareem....un he became a LAKER ... The G.O.A.T. Then I grew up. Kareem is still my GOAT. I would say that have not had hate for decades. That would not be true. I Hate Chris Paul. Only hate the great ones...
Why aren’t they talking about Boston doing the same to Detroit ?? Also, as isiah stated in the doc.. boston did it to them so they did it to the next team that took over.. when Chicago shook hands with the pistons after their loss they were still the challengers not the Champions.. its funny how bad boy haters are only talking about the pistons doing it but not the Celtics either... hate em all u want, but be realistic about it.. and Jordan IS the reason why isiah didnt make the dream team lmao thats a well known fact
It seems odd for Zeke to be in the 92 Dream Team Larry and Magic are Co-Captains (Leaders) MJ 23, Mullin and Ewing are the core of the 84 Champion Scottie Pippen = MJ Wingman Malone + Stockton all the way, No Stockton = No Malone Barkley is in 84 Squad Pool 9/12 Not really known to be a fan of Zeke ( Him around would just mess chemistry) Drexler brought in Slashing/Shooting Robinson is the Avenger from the 88 Squad C Laettner is the first one who secured the slot because they allotted one slot for college player if its not him it could be either of the ff C Shaquille O Neal 7'1 F Chris Webber. 6'9 C Alonzo Mourning 6'10 F Grant Hill. 6'8 G Penny Hardaway. 6'7
Good points there, regarding Laettner- he's considered (and is) the best College player ever, even all those you mentioned had a better NBA career (or had bigger impact to be precise).
Love how when talking about the non handshake, the MOST important aspect of the whole thing is left out. The bulls, mostly Jordan and Jackson, were saying horrible things about the pistons and their character. Regardless of whether or not it was true, what kind of moron do you have to be to wonder why a team didn't shake your had after a game when you disrespected them before the game. The whole argument that jordan always shook the pisotns' hands after the game, doesn't apply here cause they never said horrible things about jordan and the rest of the bulls. I love how its easy to hate a team when they didn't do anything wrong but play with EVERY card that they had available.
The Pistons were dirty players and bad people for other reasons, but if you look at the Celtics/Lakers Finals, they didn't shake hands after the final games either......it's true the Bulls did shake the Pistons hands when they lost to them, but the Pistons can point to other teams who didn't
Rich, you hated the Pistons because you are a Bulls fan and you could not beat them 88 89 and 90. period. full stop. Pistons were a better team. Dont go to U of M if you dont want to be around Pistons fans.
Rule changes allowed the Bulls to get by the Pistons. Previous Finals had extremely low TV viewership because Portland and Detroit are 2 small market teams. Pistons played within the rules of the game, so they changed the rules and amid a flurry of Flagrant Fouls in the playoffs, Bulls beat the Pistons.
So you think the officiating is why the Bulls swept the Pistons in 91? Dear god, how do you get through your day believing that when there is film of your precious Pistons getting dismembered?
@@iank3924 I watched the series in real time, what I saw was the Refs determining the outcome. Sports isn't a pure competition anymore, its about TV revenue, and outside Michigan, nobody wanted to watch the Pistons. Charles Barkley calls it "changed the rules so the girls can play".
Lol omg, I didn’t realized chuck Daly coached the dream team 😆😆 that’s even funnier. MJ and Scottie were able to put their Piston hate aside for Rodman and Salley who became teammates but Isiah.... 😂😂
John Salley and Joe Dumars were the only players to shake the Bulls' hands at the end of the game. Jackson told Rodman to apologize to Jordan and Pippen before they all played together and he did. Remember 3 Bad Boys Pistons played in that '95-'96 team: Rodman, Salley, and James Edwards.
