I LOVE this record, I'm so glad you got around to reviewing it. Thou's collaborative albums with Emma Ruth Rundle and Mizmor really got hooked on what the band does, but, as far as their solo output goes, I think this album has resonated the most with me. The switch from the oppressive, spacious, and drone-heavy sound on their earlier albums to this more urgent, riff-focused approach was an excellent decision. I love the drone stuff, but Thou's riffs are titanic, and the shorter runtime makes this album a lot more approachable than some of their others. The drums across this thing are really great, too, I love all the fills and different grooves that they use. It's truly a brutal and menacing sludge album while still being fresh and poignant.
Great review, been a huge thou fan for a long time and the funny thing for me is this is the least sad and oppressive of their material for me. I think the way they just gave way to honesty and the challenges of life makes it less brutal and sad. I find it really listenable and beautiful. Up there in my AOTY contenders. Along with ulcerate.
Whoa! Just found your channel and it couldn't be better timing! I've been curious to see how Umbilical is being received (mainly to see how many others are as obsessed with it as myself! 😅) This album is the best, most brutal thing I've heard in a long time and I can't get enough of it! I dig your energy and enthusiasm as you describe it. If I hadn't already listened to it a bajillion times, you would have convinced me to check it out. Thank you!
Yeah, this album is absolutely amazing, not a wasted second on this one. In fact, I kind of wish there were more songs, but it's extremely enjoyable for what we do have.
Best Thou album in awhile. But it can't top that Emma Ruth Rundle collab, that album is amazing. Only problem is now I want clean vocals in Thou, along with the harsh.
It’s hard not to sound fawningly sycophantic but I agree with everything you had to say about this album. If the last two songs weren’t on a separate 7’’ I would have bought the vinyl…
Hello. I came from your Deicide drinking game vid and it was funny as hell. If you ever do another drinking game. Do you wanna wear a Green Day shirt and drink some Mountain Dew mixed with Corona or Jack Daniels? Sorry this comment's not on topic. I'm listening to a little bit of this album right now.
Sacred Bones is so funny man. They’ll have artists that produce enchanting bliss like Marissa Nadler and Spellling, and then put out auditory masochism like this. Best part is, all of them are gas.
They really do have a wild roster, and I tend to love almost all of it. Pharmakon is signed there, too, if I remember correctly. Fantastic noise music, she rules

Politically socially charged doom sludge metal from Louisiana YES🪕🎸🎶🎵🤘
That album is effing awesome. Love it, love Thou!
Good Morning, I found Thou a few years ago with Ancestral Call.. I have their previous album too. Cool band.
MMMMMM after 2 listens i want more black tea in my cup.

Myopia is another banger
Their most brutal and best album to date.

Such a perfect album to end May 5/5 album of the year contender

That album really is great, they should do another collab if they get the chance.

One of the heaviest releases of the year

Weird. So I looked this album up and the cover I'm seeing does not seem to match the one on the thumbnail. Like I see knights around a tree.
Could be an alternate cover for physical copies or maybe for different streaming services I guess
Wiuek❤❤❤❤
I was only on song 2 when I decided to order it on vinyl
Good call
I Almost didnt listen Glad i did most enjoyable.
Why did you almost not?
I really like Thou but they churn out so much stuff, I literally can't keep up.

They're always reliable for weird shit, be it fun weird or dark weird or weird weird.
