We rent a Catamaran in Porto dell'Ancora in Stintino. We were sail the pristine and transparent waters of the Asinara Natural Park on a catamaran, admiring their clarity and immersing ourself in the most beautiful coves of the park. After an initial sailing (with a stop for swimming along the way) towards the port of Cala Reale (or Cala d'Oliva according to weather and sea conditions) we had the opportunity to visit the villages, the prison buildings, the wildlife recovery centers present on the island. On board the catamaran we were served lunch and drinks. After the coffee we were set sail towards new coves to visit and then continue sailing towards the port of departure. Which was Porto dell'Ancora. Lunch and drinks offered on board by the crew.
Asinara is an Italian island of 52 km2 (20 sq mi) in area. The name is Italian for "donkey-inhabited", but it is thought to derive from the Latin "sinuaria", and meaning sinus-shaped. The island is virtually uninhabited. The island is located off the north-western tip of Sardinia, and is mountainous in geography with steep, rocky coasts. Because fresh water is scarce, trees are sparse and low scrub is the predominant vegetation. Part of the national parks system of Italy, the island was recently converted to a wildlife and marine preserve. It is home to a population of wild albino donkeys from which the island may take its name.
