I once had an guy at a sandwich shop ask me what I was listening to as he put together my order. I said "The Butthole Surfers." Which was true. He gave me angry looks till I left.
@@shaynewest8757 That was the only way to see them in the 80s. Unless you were on shrooms or mescaline or peyote (I did all of the above)(but not all at once). I kinda thought that was the point. Although I did see them soberish a few times. They used to play for 5 bucks at the Ritz--great place to meet cute guys (or girls, depending on what you were looking for); I fell in punk rock love for a few months after a guy asked me to hold his leather jacket before he went into the pit. Heck, I took my first stage dive to Cherub. The Surfers helped us Texans get through the Reagan years with their unique albeit dangerous flair. Fun facts: I grew up watching lead singer Gibby Haynes' father host our local program Peppermint Place on children's TV, and Gibby went to an excellent private university in San Antonio and graduated as Accounting Student of the Year. Their ranch was an infamous place of debauched good times . . . .

This was awesome! Some of the bands I agree with and some I don't know all that well but I just love your introspection and enthusiasm! I'm never bored with your vids, keep being a diehard fan that reminds people why hard/heavy music scenes are good places
Butthole Surfers are awesome! I got into them after hearing Oderus mention them + the fact that Gibby directed Phallus in Wonderland. I went to my local record store and the only cd they had was locust abortion technician. Little did I know I had bought one of the greatest records of all time. I listened to it 6 times that night
Good list - we are similar, it seems, on the industrial side. I'm going to check out some of the bands you mentioned that I've never heard of. Here are some of my favorites: 1.) My music tastes swing all the time, from Type O to Viking tunes, to 80's new wave and pop. I just love music and listen to almost anything. The ones listed here are probably the most listened to. Do you have a playlist on Spotify?
Dude, Drab Majesty. Vr Sex. My gods this music has opened an entire universe. So damn good , And the influences and nods to so many legendary bands that are in their music. That blew me away when you mentioned them and So cool you like them. Deb and Mona are a goddamn cosmic force.

It's nice to see some metalcore in this comment section. Metalcore gets no respect. ABR was the first metal band I ever put on my iPod shuffle back in the day lol. 15+ years later, they're still at the top of their game.
Dude Thankyou for your ministry videos. Ive gone through most of their discography since hearing them 1year ago and love the variety in their sounds. Hope I can see them live if they ever visit my country. Even though it’ll never be like the “Sphinc-Tour” era. Just found killing joke last week and was blown away by how many influences I hear from them in other bands. Thanks for revitalising my love for finding new music.
Sphinctour was so good followed the band from london to Nottingham on that tour the band was so heavy blew me away those were extremely hedonistic daze . Nobody better back then !
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttackLooking forward to it! I bought The Sphinc-Tour on DVD along with Al’s autobiography last year and loved it. It would be awesome to see you talking about the “In case you didn’t feel like showing up” 1989 live album/video too!

And I'm definitely not sorry!
@Zerozerozero any list with Dokken Motorhead and The Kinks can’t be a 1/10. There are some eyebrow raisers on there for sure, but the good bands and the diversity makes up for it in my opinion.
We have some similarities Uncle Tony: 1)Nine Inch Nails 2)Type O Negative 3)VNV Nation 4)Draconian 5)X Marks the Pedwalk 6)My Dying Bride 7)The Wounded 8)Paradise Lost 9)Skinny Puppy 10)Pride and Fall 11)Theatre of Tragedy 12)Slayer 13)Fïx8:Sëd8 14)Swallow the Sun 15)Fear Factory

I like your list, many great bands. I wish I could point like 17 bands I like, but there are so many... The pnly ones I can say would be in the top 17 are Torture Squad, Metallica and The Ramones, the others that could make the list are so many... If I had more courage to talk to a camera I would try making a top 20 or top 15.
Butthole Surfers changed me from a kid who didn't think he liked music into a kid who wanted to be (and became) a drummer. I grew up in the 80s and was very ignorant as far as music goes, to the point that I didn't know there were bands that made livings that were NOT played on the radio. The Widowermaker EP changed all that in one sitting and it only got better from there as I collected their discography backwards. All hail Gibby!
NIN is o e of my favorites and I have a cool story that my uncle told me, in the 80s my uncle was in a band with Trent reznor called burnt toast, just thought you would appreciate it
I don't think I could really have a comprehensive list of my favorite bands without going on forever, but if you put a gun to my head and told me to figure out my favorite band ever NOW I would realistically say Lagwagon. Explored all corners of melodic hardcore & pop-punk, no one does it better than them.
I made predictions before watching the video, and none of my predicted bands were on your list!! Well done!!! I had 2 bands I thought for SURE you would have, Slaughter and Voivod, but I was wrong!
Ahh. You did say Agollach that counts as black metal. And honorable mention for Drab Majesty now I know we have similar musical tastes what a strange and awesome band. Do yourself a favor and see Drab live sometime if you haven’t already, it was a great experience for me.
Oh man, great list !!! I Love Sabbath (all eras, yes, but "Tyr" is meh), Samhain, the Surfers, NIN, Skinny Puppy (and all projects), Ministry (and all projects), GWAR, Type O/Carnivore, all bands you mencioned!!!

Good music bro, keep the Metal alive flowing through the veins of society one of my favorite bands is GWAR I remember when I was getting into them it was a fun trip, I thought they looked kinda silly but it grew on me the music made it make more sense and I love the journey it took me through no other band did what they did to me, it expanded my minds limits, I miss Oderus Urungus(dave brockie) fuckin miss him a lot but they got a great new frontman blother the beserker is pretty good, glad they kept goingit is still a lot of fun. the new album kicks a** left right centre, you can't stop a truly great band and pioneers of their genre. Totally agree about Samhain. I had never heard anything (apart from Son of Sam that does'nt count) that even reminded me of Samhain. Not until a couple of months ago when I for some reason found the band Super Heroines. Check out the album Cry for Help (the song Convicts for example). Would be fun to hear your take on that.
My favorite heavier bands, in order.... 1. Bvrzvm (Varg is crazy...crazy good) 2. Ministry, et al (even the 80s synth pop Uncle Al wants to hide) 3. Type O Negative (beautiful music with the best metal voice) 4. Napalm Death (RRRREIGNNN!!!) 5. dISEMBOWELMENT (greatest metal album ever, no debate) 6. Emperor (genius Norwegian black metal) 7. Check out Chris Vrenna's amazing soundtrack work: 'American McGee's Alice unofficial soundtrack'.
Cool, it's enjoyable to see others that have almost the same taste in music. Excellent list.
you were the one who introduced me to dystopia, autopsy, and skinny puppy, and they've been in my top favorite bands for years now, awesome upload!!

Such a hard list to make! MORBID ANGEL would be up there for me. Their influence is everywhere! 👌
like where?
The best death metal band ever
Love the Sleep and Mentors posters. A true connoisseur
Best part is I found one at a record store for free, the other came with the DVD that April sent over!
I'm glad you mentioned the Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath. What a change in sound.
Headless Cross is great
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack I relish Cross Purposes as well. Played the hell out of it when I got it.
Tony Martin is my favourite era. Tyr is awesome.
Thank you for Getting me into some new stuff I’m always interested
You've got good taste, in my opinion. I love that you put Bolt Thrower at #4.
One of the heaviest bands in the world
Bolt Thrower rules! Thanks for the introduction.
I’d say my absolute favourite is The Ramones. I have never found another band like them, the perfect group.
As simple as The Ramones are, it's nearly impossible to make a Ramones song as Ramony as the Ramones would do.

Do you have a playlist on Spotify?

Sphinctour’s one of my favorite live albums, may do a video on live albums
Sphinctour was so good followed the band from london to Nottingham on that tour the band was so heavy blew me away those were extremely hedonistic daze . Nobody better back then !
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttackLooking forward to it! I bought The Sphinc-Tour on DVD along with Al’s autobiography last year and loved it. It would be awesome to see you talking about the “In case you didn’t feel like showing up” 1989 live album/video too!

Nice mix
@Zerozerozero any list with Dokken Motorhead and The Kinks can’t be a 1/10. There are some eyebrow raisers on there for sure, but the good bands and the diversity makes up for it in my opinion.
Great to see some recognition for The Jam, Paul Weller is easily among the best songwriters ever. Sound Affects is my personal favourite.
@Zerozerozero As a guitar player and from a songwriters perspective, big dick Donny Dokken is a genius and gigachad of the glam metal genre 😂

I must say you have awesome taste in music man. Big hello from down here in New Zealand.

It really irks me when people say Gwar is only a good live band. I listen to the music all the time! Its very creative and well written!
And heavy, there’s a reason “gor gor” is part of this channel name
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack And yes of course heavy. I'd say they're my favorite band but I like Morbid Angel too much. It's a tie
Torture Squad seems kind of random, but they're a really great band.
I went to a gwar show because i knew the show itself would be good and not knowing their music, but i left a huge fan of the music.
The impersonation of Peter when you put the video on 1.5x is on point
I made predictions before watching the video, and none of my predicted bands were on your list!! Well done!!! I had 2 bands I thought for SURE you would have, Slaughter and Voivod, but I was wrong!
Love Voivod, Slaughter is great
Ahh. You did say Agollach that counts as black metal. And honorable mention for Drab Majesty now I know we have similar musical tastes what a strange and awesome band. Do yourself a favor and see Drab live sometime if you haven’t already, it was a great experience for me.
Drab is wonderful live, even met one of them after the show!
Shout-out to Richmond VA, their hometown, and my hometown. Been living here for 40 years. Went to a few gwar shows in the late 90s.
I wish I could’ve seen them while Oderus was alive

#16: Weed, politics, everything you want in a metal band.
#15: A whole other level of weird and awesome.
#14: Spooky music for spooky rockers.
#13: The OGs of Stoner rock.
#12: Heavy riffs, hard-hitting songs, raspy vocals, everything that describes AC/DC.
#11: The Gods of Heavy Metal lead by the Prince of darkness himself.
#10: B-Movie themed songs, gurgly vocals, Ghoul is at its finest
#9: Brootal thrash metaal with Groove Metal.
#8: Post-Punk music for metalheads.
#7: Raw, gruesome, awesome.
#6: Dark and harsh music that influenced a generation of industrial musicians like Ministry and Nine Inch Nails
#5: The OGs of punk rock.
#4: In battle, there is no other death metal band other than Bolt Thrower!
#3: Oh, Jorgensen. You never let us down. Except with the album AmeriKKKant that album sucked.
#2: The artist that brought industrial music into the mainstream.
