Isn't it funny how the music industry can shape our minds? While you say at times she sounds like Celine Dion most people around the world say Celine Dion sounds like her. Imagine that. Not that it matters, but I was one of those Americans who started listening to Lara in the 90's when yes she all but disappeared from the American Market. I was lucky enough to get my hands on her materials through someone who was stationed overseas. I loved her in the 90s and I can see why her Fame grew worldwide and Celine's camp probably did her a favor, because compared to the world America is a very small place. So Bravo to this wonderful talented woman who most definitely survived one of the deepest record label burials ever. ✌❤😎

Lara Fabian is one of less than a handfull of singers who are BEST WATCHED LIVE . She is the ultimate artist who paints with her incrdable voice, sculps each performance with heartfelt emotions, and not only relates the story which the composer intended with his words but somehow invites her audience to hoin her unto the kourney of that story. I attended Celine Dion's Las Vegas show 5 times and am a fan but5 as good as she is ... well, I will elevate her up to Lara's level when Celine both writes her songs and when she goes without auto-tune.

Talking about C.Dion and Lara is like talking about a killer and a victim. "Princess" Celine through her rich husband and his Sony Music blocked helpless Lara's career in USA and never seemed to regret for this brutality. Facing also a tragic love story Lara came close to suicide and was saved by the incredible love she received from her fans in her Paris2001 concert. Celine who? She doesn't exist for me

I don't know that Lara was stifled. She is a vocalist, songwriter, sings in several languages. She resonates with a more global audience. By contrast, Celine is not a songwriter. She is strictly a vocalist. She has songs written FOR her. She is amazing, don't get me wrong, but she's been crafted for US audiences. Celine is marketable. I don't think they knew how to market Lara. I LOVED her from the moment I heard I Will Love Again, but I never heard anything else from her on American airwaves. I hunted her stuff down and I have loved her ever since. Immortelle is a favorite, and I am still floored by Je Suis Malade. And I'm not a lover of French. Lara's path was meant for beyond the US and I'm glad she has that success. The US music market tends to chew artists up. Both women are successful in their own right, just in different ways

Another sparkling performance from Lara Fabian. Small note, Celine Dion is one of the best performers in the world, but she NEVER gives us emotions like Lara Fabian. Her stage presence, her body language, the emotions she conveys when she sings are INCOMPARABLE. You should listen to MADEMOISELLE HYDE (SOCHI 2016) WITH IGOR KRUTOY, A DELICE. On the other hand, listen to REQUIEM POUR UN FOU with rocker Johnny Halliday, you will discover a completely different Lara Fabian. She is so versatile. Thank you from Montreal.

When Lara heard DIMASH perform Adagio, she was so impressed she wanted to do a duet with him. On his 24th birthday she sent a video of herself and a small one candle cake and sang happy birthday to him. Ti Amo Cosi performance was a chance for her and Dimash and Aida Garifulina the Vienna opera star to sing together and just watching Lara and DIMASH and the admiration they have for each other is priceless, plus the sound of their voices blending so well is worth the time to watch or react to. it's a different sound of DIMASH only bass baritone and the best operatic voice one could imagine, Pavarotti sorry sir. Ice skating show is moving performance also. DIMASH was offered a million dollar contract to join the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan, but turned it down as he is not about the money but to do his music his way, with all the genres available to him. In rehearsal for Ti Amo Cosi Aida a soprano jokes that if she lost her voice, DIMASH could sing both parts.

Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly".
This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonate, concerto or symphony that is using that specific pace.
The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and give his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself.
The classic music piece is globally famous and was translated into a pop song for Lara. She wrote lyrics in english and italian for it and is the original performer.
She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration.
This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Dame Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash, Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, …
They made great covers but none of these match the storytelling amazing performance of Lara in this concert From Lara with Love.
Her italian version is also amazing.

No need for me to pray
    I've walked so far
    I've fought so hard
    Nothing more to explain
    I know all that remains
    Is a piano that plays
If you know where to find me
If you know how to reach me
    Before this light fades away
Before I run out of faith
Be the only man to say
    That you'll hear my heart
    That you'll give your life
    Forever you'll stay
Don't let this light fade away
    No No No No No
Don't let me run out of faith

Rosalie, at a Céline concert, one feels like one in a sea of thousands; at Lara's, she is singing to you. And, frankly, I can't see how anyone can confuse the deeper, richer tones of Lara with Céline's rather nasal delivery. Keep up the good work, but you should check your audio levels. They are a bit low.

Agreed. I do see differences in their voice, but there are moments were Lara does something vocally that strongly reminds me of Celine (not from an emotional standpoint, but the sound. Select moments however not overall). you make a good point about the deeper tones versus nasal. Regarding sound, would you be so kind and tell me what device you used to listen? When I listen on my computer and my mobile device, the sound sounds fine on my end. I’ve had a couple other people express audio issues, And I’m trying to narrow down the cause, Since I made detailed changes for the audio in this recent video and I’m not sure why it’s still not loud enough for some but most don’t express the same problem. Trying to refine as I go :-) thank you for the feedback

Another great reaction I just love watching how the performance just moves you there is a reason that Dimash holds Lara in such high regard she is a complete performer and in my opinion could have given Celine more than a run for her money and thats why her people got scared of her coming this way. There is a newer live version of this song & I like it better. I have read some of the comments about sound. I don't know why but several weeks ago I started having to turn my sound on my laptop up to 100 & sometimes I can barely hear the songs. I noticed it especially with you reactors--you are loud enough at 90 but I can hardly hear the singer. I used to be able to hear at around 60. For Dimash, I hardly hear his breathy starts but do have to turn it down to 62 when he starts belting. It only happens on RUclips. I hear fine when playing my games. Can hardly wait for your reaction to Dimash singing Adagio--I did not like the song when I first heard it on Singer. There are certain notes he hits that make his voice sound like he's straining(not a full, hard sound). He gives an A+++ performance, as usual. Someone in the comments commented on this too, saying it's because he's using his mixed voice and they recommend his New Wave performance.

  • @JustMyOpinion1010

I love love love Dimash but as far as covers go I feel that Adagio is the only song that the origional singer's performance is better. I think it may have something to do with the fact that he sang it in the same key, which meant that he had to sing a lot of it in mixed voice since he is....well, a man. I prefer his performance of Adagio at New Wave in Sochi to the Singer one that everyone always watches. I think it is much better to do a comparison of Lara and Dimash's versions of Mademoiselle Hyde.

Thank you for clarifying the differences between Apples & Oranges - Pears & Papayas... 'Good Music is Good Music,' no matter the genre! Even our perception of the artist's emotions can be received differently throughout our time here and our journey's path. What a wonderful gift Lara is to all of us who choose to be warmed and engaged by her offerings. I will state, without any reservations, that I have not heard many who can move me as much and as easily as Lara Fabian.
I will not get into my disdain for the music industry, as I feel it unconscionable to withhold a joy, such as Lara from anyone! It must take a whole group of bast**ds to collude and partake in such a deviant endeavour!
But for the positives..... only a few singers/vocalists posses the seemingly endless selection of tools Lara has. Further, Lara is not afraid to boldly embody the physical traits of some emotions with many are dauntingly afraid of. To some, this represents a weakness to be suppressed - to Lara, it is a necessity which must be shared.
This, I also feel, is what drives music and its interpretations to ever higher levels.
Selfishly, I can only wish for more time to enjoy Lara Fabian's gifts and commend you for bringing them to the forefront, for all to enjoy.
Bravo,... may you continue to be blessed and have many more insights to offer...

The campaign by Celine Dion supporters against Lara was absolutely vicious and protracted and was profoundly painful and damaging to her- both personally and professionally . Even though a lot of water passed under this bridge since, this is why many of Lara's fans really arc up whenever anyone makes comparisons between them. They both trained in much the same style, particularly re the power ballad genre and so have some similar presentations, projection mechanisms, onsets and ornamentations that were very much of that time, but I beg to differ about the timbre. Their voices are very distinct. Also Lara's diverse cultural background and focus in Europe has led her to develop her artistry across a number of languages and broaden to different genres.
I'm not suggesting you are doing this... but I, and many others, really dislike people comparing or applying some self generated rating system- which seems to be a popular thing amongst some US Reactors. It's profoundly disrespectful to both artists involved, who should be judged purely on their own merits and compared only against their own developmental milestones as they progress in their careers. In terms of 'grace under fire' Lara has been nothing but courteous and complimentary about Celine's talent and career, both then and now.
Many professional singers have commented on Lara's performances being Master Classes in technique and nuanced 'word painting' etc., and so it's lovely to see her generously moving into mentoring and teaching other emerging artists in recent years, and enjoying it so much. 😊👍

I have seen this version before, and its a great version to compare with Dimash's version, from the 2017 Chinese show (I am a singer). Dimash uses a lot of her highs and lows, copying her belts timing wise. When she sings that "No, No, No, No" towards the end, Dimash emulates the same feeling / emotion. Lara’s rendition is the best and will never be equaled.
But I would like to introduce you to a 4 male crossover harmony group callrd “ Forestella” from South Korea. When they performed their first song ( the Freddy Mercury classic“ Bohemian Rhapsody”) it catapulted them to international stardom and they now have millions of followers worldwide. They were all at one time solo performers. One has a very deep bass/baritone voice. Another, a high operatic voice, and the other two group members (who were also solo performers at one time) combine to render “je suis malade” a confluence of absolute total passion and performed live on stage in front of thousands of fans. I thought no one would ever come close to Lara’s soulful rendition. And no one vocalist will. But when you have 4 members and the best vocal harmony group in the world, well. ( all I can say is have your Kleenex handy)
Some of their other songs I recommend are Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound Of Silence”, Guardian “ Angel” that will lift your spirits and transport you to another world-especially during these troubled covid times.
And the hauntingly beautiful “ hijo de la luna”
But “ Le Suis” remains my all time favorite. I’ve watched it 5 times and each and every time it moves me to my depths.
All love from Miami Beach , Florida,
    Al

It was not Celine Dion who tried to prevent Lara from succeeding in the United States. It is said that it was Tommy Mottola who was married to Mariah Carey in the 90s did not want Lara competing with Mariah and messed her chances up since he had a lot of power in the music industry and was even controlling with Mariah.
