You have to start navigate model with ctrl+shift+mouse!(or chose another option for navigation with keypad) You will save a lot of time for yourself and for your watchers!
You can find the security grille making your model in the British environment. Another thing you can do is make the grid as a block and insert it later when you are modeling. I do the latest in Tekla and also in Solidworks when I am doing engineering projects where I need steps or gratings.
