When doing a tutorial it would help to let the viewer see the arm doing the motion you're telling them to. A replay of the nail going in would still prove the point
All great advice! We are planning on doing a full length video on this. Sadly 60 seconds isn't enough time to enumerate the whole thing you know what I mean? 😅
The ones who crack me up the most are the people who choke so far up the handle that the back of their hand is almost touching the hammer head! Silly rookies 😊
i know a few guys in the mafia who disagree with this technique !! In the movie Casino they used the the whole-shoulder method to get a bigger bang!! 😅😅
One week too late. I smashed my thumb and had to go on RUclips to learn how to relieve the pressure with a stove burned paper clip. I couldn’t sleep until I relieved the pressure.
@@thomasblake5174 I'm saying it's fine to do to set the nail in the board but you don't need to do it to drive the nail. I've done carpentry for 15 years, the elbow action is fine when setting the nail but then you drive that sucker in with the shoulder....
@@thomasblake5174also you didn't set the nail you showed the video with it already set.... You got a couple ways to set the nail, pinch between thumb and finger which usually catches the thumb with the hammer, or between two fingers knuckles down, best way in my opinion ... I've seen some fellas use needle nose pliers, but now they sell hammers with a grove for the nail and a magnet so you don't have to hold the nail...
The only time I have used my shoulder to hammer something, I was using s sludge hammer...I can't even picture an adult to use their should to use a hammer...
@timbarry5080 to be honest, I always thought it was that...I thought it was just a weird name... I'm probably pronouncing it wrong too and no one has ever corrected me...go figure

I'll keep that in mind.
Cool basement walls and x bracing on those joists. What year is that house?
When I was learning to swing a hammer, my Dad told me to count the strikes and I rarely missed after that.
That's great advice!
Also make sure to stare at the head of the nail. Like dont take your eyes off of the head at all. It sounds weird but helps a lot!

Probably one of the better tips, eye on the ball.
Ain’t perfect but it’s a good place to start.

If you found this video helpful give your husband back his tools
One unbruised thumbs up
Teaches how to use a hammer, then when using it doesn't' show it....genious!

I think I'll trust the fifty carpenters that I grew up around
🤦🏻 o man all this time I thought it was just me..
come to find out it was the rotating ball in my shoulder..
Dam should have been a doctor ..
😂😂😂😂
😂😂 nice one age
Thank you always thought my hand eye coordination was getting bad😂
Hope it helps I know for me it was a game changer.
I’m going to go try this method out
Please do! This is the kind of stuff I wish people taught when I first started in carpentry.
This will cause tennis elbow if you try it the whole time while working if your a framer or carpenter...
@@kingcujo4207any repetitive action causes problems in the bones and muscle. What should we do?

A sludge hammer sounds messy
@timbarry5080 I used a SH for demolition position I had a while back
@@undecidedgenius I'm sorry. I was making a joke. You said "sludge" hammer.. you meant sledge hammer.

@undecidedgenius lol. I'm sorry to ruin it for you, but I'm pretty sure it's sledge... sludge is gooey , hence my joke.
You swing from your wrist
Who is using their shoulder to swing a framing hammer
A shocking amount! 😅
Don't listen to this...
