By the time he would’ve figured it out, they would’ve been long gone anyway. But that’s just my theory.

So that would mean Mercedes had her at 12/13 years old her self. So instead of the man going to jail (idk if the man was providing a lifestyle for the wife) that would fall if he went to jail if he was messed with her young.
