I love how you took the double block and used it to knock open the hands. I interpreted it super similar but due to so much cross training I changed it maybe a bit too much in application. You kept very close to the traditional form/look but made it very practical. I love it.
More than interested in that book when it's done. Your videos have been instrumental in my discovery of naihanchi. I wish there were more projects like yours for all kata lineages (kushanku-pinans and the passais)
Great stuff! I learned this as Tekki Shodan almost 20 years ago in Shotokan Karate and was never satisfied with the applications they told us then. In the last few years I’ve been relearning the kata on my own and researching the real meanings behind the movements and this has become my favorite kata. It’s got so many good clinch fighting techniques. One thing I recommend for that opening, use it as a pair of spearing elbows right before you clinch up. Other than that, everything else looks great.
@@aidanmurray8283, not yet. Still working on the first draft. It’s the first book I’ve ever written and it’s proven to be way more difficult than I thought it would be. Really makes you realize how complicated it all is when you try to put it to words.
Why would a guy just let you pull him down? Literally the first move and it doesn't make any sense It's your 2 hands pulling down vs his whole body just standing up right

Thanks man, I’d like to see how you interpret it now too.
I really like your material. Watching your interpretations and training methods have been really helpful. Thanks for putting it out there:)
Thanks for watching!

Thank you! My concentration is on Naihanchi at least until this book is done but I have thought a bit about where to go next.

Solid video.
Straightforward, brutal and effective… the way it was meant to be.
Thanks!
A very similar version of Naihanchi is taught in Isshinryu. This is one of my favorite katas of Isshinryu Karate.
Excellent summary! I’d like to see a breakdown of the sweep in particular. How to get the off balance so the sweep isn’t forced by strength
The angle is key. All will be detailed in my Naihanchi Project book.
@@ModernTangSooDo thanks! Is there a date for the release of this?

@@ModernTangSooDo I can imagine. Best of luck, not just for you, but so I can get my hands on it too :)
You can do many things with the Naihanchi. It’s good kata.
Great video - thanks a lot.
Very good practical
In pre ordering the book. If that's a thing.
No preorders at the moment. Not sure when the book will be finished, progress has been slow.
This is good stuff!
Thanks! The book I’ve been working on for the Naihanchi Project will detail how these techniques are applied live.
