Even in the next 1000 years, you can never speak of Nigeria without talking about Biafra, Igbos and the great actor (OJUKWU) history has been made forever.
And Ojukwu was a proud hypocrite. He was a hypocrite because less than a year before the war, he arrested a certain Adaka Boro for the exact same thing, and he's proud because that war was only intended to feed his ego. Ojukwu knew going into that war was a suicide mission Biafra stood a 0/100 chance of winning, yet even as a military governor of a particular region, he still proceeded to start contending. He knew better. This dude literally wrote to Abacha to kill Abiola unjustly, and you'll call him a hero? He contested for Nigeria presidency twice!!! That's hypocritical; he just wanted power
I feel that Gowon spoke then as a young man, but God allowed Gowon to be alive powerless and moving around with his Nigeria Prays, and witnessing the present day Massacre of people of plateau State, meanwhile the Igbos Gowon soldiers killed recovered and are obviously the richest tribe in Nigeria through hard work while Northern Nigeria remains the poorest and most insecure region of Nigeria simply because Gowon didn't implement Aburi Accord and went to war against the Igbos. Ojukwu remains the Greatest Igboman that lived in Modern History. A leader with foresight more than Gowon. Nigeria is now trying to agree to accept Aburi Accord 55years later. Ojukwu ran a government that was self sufficient producing it's military weapons that fought the work from guns, bombs, vehicles, refinery and everything Biafra used were produced locally while Gowon imported all the weapons Nigeria used to fight the war from Europe and America. Most United Nation countries fought against Biafra with mercernaries yet Igbos inflicted heavy casualties to Nigeria for 3years of war. If Ojukwu is not a Hero then that word has no definition. Ikemba: May your soul rest in peace.
As a Plateau man, now realizing our parents fought that civil war on a wrong deceitful notion by the core North to fight our Christian Brothers, seeing yakubu Gowon speaking in this video gave me shame, today the middle belt of Nigeria is been taking over by jihadist northern Muslim and people like Gowon can't talk now
Sir Gowon you are the reason why Nigerians are suffering now ,if you have agreed according to Aubrey accord regional government for now Nigeria have be a good country.
Never😄! Ojukwu is NOT a coward by any metric. Most Nigerians are not very well read. It is not uncommon to find Nigerians talking about matters they know nothing about. Just pure sentimental nonsense. OJUKWU IS A NIGERIAN HERO. He saw the problem of northern domination and proposed a confederal structure to remedy the problem. The Yorubas are very tribalistic and servile. So they follow their leaders blindly even to their own peril. southern leaders know the truth but are unwilling to speak cuz of their lust for power. The constitution of the country is dangerously demonic. Restructuring and a new constitution are the only things that can save Nigeria. The first “coup” was not a “coup” but a revolution. It was A revolution for the soul of the country. Sadly, it did not stand. Ojukwu like many other powerful Nigerians at the time, saw the problem of northern domination. However, he was the only one who had the guts to do something about it. Sadly, he failed in the attempt. The yorubas were a divided house at the time, and fell under the control of the north. The Yoruba to this day, remains a stooge of the powerful northern houses.
What is the definition of a hero, a man who had a strong passion for his people, fought against genocide by the entire world on his people, with absolutely no mercenaries, produced his own arms and ammunitions. Ojukwu is combined all known war heroes one can fathom. Biafrans survival still remains a mystery. Rest in Legend ❤
Genocide by the entire world how? Also, what do you mean no mercenaries? Besides, he didn't produce most of the ammunition used. Besides ogbunigwe, which other did Biafra produce? I understand the love for him, you can justify that however you like but please not with 🧢
Biafrans hardly survived millions of civilians literally died, and 100k (at least) of the few thousand soldiers died. If Nigeria wanted to do it, they'll have wiped the entirety of Biafran population.
The men who fought in the biafran Army ,are the heros . They weren't trained, they fought in hunger n in plenty, they fought clothed and barely clothed , they fought even withour weapons . They didn't declare a war and slept in AC ... They fought.

Ojukwu is not just a hero but a Great Hero. Even in his grave, he is still a Hero. Even in his grave, he is worth more than ten gowon. Gowon ended up as a slave who enslaved his people. Gowon shamefully ran far far away after he masterminded the killing of Gen. Muritala Muhammed.
He was not a good man. He played on the desperate need for freedom of the Igbo people for what ever sick reason. He enjoyed privilege. Why didn't he use his wealth to encourage education and form good business links for Igbo states? Why war? I really have no good words for that man and the same evil spirit is in Nnamdi Kanu who is willing to shed the blood of Igbo people again by deceiving people that it will work. God please give people sense. Gowon was right. Ojukwu was a proud and unwise man. And all who follow him are as senseless and irrational as himself. God knows what to do about the Nigerian situation. Not Ojukwu and certainly not that useless Nnamdi Kanu who happens to be from my exact village. My God is bigger than them. Nigeria will be free and what the British meant for evil, God will turn it for good. Nigeria will stay as one under the Lordship of Christ. This is my prayer.
@@chinazoucheaga4825 so much fear in your words, so much terror. Ojukwu did not have a choice! Igbos were being killed all over Nigeria and the elders in Igbo land sanctioned secession; he was the de facto leader and had to be the face of the cause, and he did the best he could - the Igbos only found out that not only were they hated in Nigeria, but just like the Israelites, there are international and supernatural forces against their self determination. Whether that was because of oil or because of a general fear of Igbo ingenuity, the civil war was inevitable and might I remind you, Ojukwu had no part in the coup of January, 1966. He was just a child of destiny! As for him being a coward for running away, would you rather escape a lost cause to fight another day or remain foolhardy and die like a chicken? Let us not be self-righteous. Nnamdi Kanu is but a consequence of the injustices that not only the Igbos have faced, but every other tribe or ethnic group that's been held back by the unholy matrimony between Northern and Southern Nigeria (which in my opinion includes the middle belt); if restructuring is not done to salvage the situation and allow each region practice self-governance in a Confederacy, Nigeria would only head inevitably to another civil war and when that time comes Biafra would prevail whether anyone likes it or not. Selah
@@florencenwafor8595 My sister you have spoken from a position sentiments laced with misinformation. Do a thorough research about what led to the civil war. It wasn't about the touted propaganda by Ojukwu and his goons about "pogrom",Igbo extermination, "genocide". The civil war was Ojukwu's agenda to corner for himself and his cronies the oil wealth of the South south. Do you know that any one who tried to advise Ojukwu against going into a war the "Biafrans" were I'll equipped to fight was considered a saboteur and alienated from the struggle? Ojukwu conscripted child soldiers into his militia, these kids died in their number, where was Ojukwu's children? Or the kids of Igbo elites who were fuelling the crisis in the background ? Ojukwu saw an "opportunity" to make himself emperor of Eastern Nigeria and was ready to sacrifice the lives of the nameless Igbo men, women and children to achieve that. Yes Ojukwu did not join the young officers to execute the coup but he was a beneficiary of the intended gains from the coup. Why did he not pressure Aguiyi Ironsi to deal with the coup plotters who were even promoted in prison after such a horrible unwarranted action against key leaders of the North and South? What gave him the authority to declare an independent state? He had no such powers he was only driven by greed. And the name "Biafra" does not have anything to do with Igbos and their common destiny. It was a name given by a European to for geographical reasons. Like I said do your research,I used to get triggered emotionally once anything about the civil war is being discussed but today I have a better perspective to ALL the sides of that ugly history. Cheers
Was there really a killing of the Igbo people in the North? If yes, then Ojukwu's decision is understandable. Why didn't he die? Because if he had died in the war, it would have given the enemy the biggest satisfaction and would have been the biggest shame of his people. That would have crushed the will of his people beyond repairs. He gave himself the chance to explain his actions. Everyone would have been in doubt of his decision if he didn't. Respect the man.
What would have broken or crushed the spirit of his people is if he had been captured and subjected to public disgrace and humiliation not if he had chosen to stay back and fight to the death. That would have earned him the highest of respect from the so-called enemy. All of that giving himself the chance to explain as an excuse to run away goes further to confirm his cowardice. If he had had respect for word power in resolving conflicts he would have been diplomatic in his language and will insist on a diplomatic resolution to the conflict no matter what and wouldn´t have allowed the situation to escalate into an all-out war. There are so many other indications of his character during the war that reveals he was a coward but wouldn´t be necessary to bring them up here at least not for now.
@@oluwalomejooda001 pls shut up! Ojukwu was very diplomatic. As the governor of eastern region, when his people were being massacred and unjustly targeted, he cried to Lagos! So many times! Ojukwu had no option than to declare independent states of Biafra. Ojukwu a coward? He fought Nigeria for 3 years! Ojukwu has 10× more balls than any Nigerian General, dead or alive! @@gideonopu9561 A non-Nigerian reading your comment will conclude that northerners were not killed in the east only the northerners kill the Igbos in the north. This is typical of how Igbos present their case ever de4sperate to draw sympathy to themselves making others look like brute savages out to get the superior Igbo tribe. While the massacre of the Igbos was going on in the north the northerners were also being killed in the east. The number of Igbos killed was more because of the Igbos' mentality of settling in large numbers on others' territory to exploit them economically. If it could be argued that the Igbos have been enjoying a peaceful settlement in the north for a long time before the unfortunate political incident that led to their being massacred in large numbers then you will be shooting yourself in the leg if you want to make it look like the Igbos were innocent of what led to it. The fact remains that the first military coup was led by a majority of young Igbo military officers who killed top political leaders both in the north and in the west and failed to kill any from their part of the country. Any reasonable person from anywhere in the world would have seen that it was an Igbo coup except for the Igbos. And not only was Ojukwu a coward he was also a bad military commander and here is why. You see all the nonsense you talked about military rules in warfare that dictate a leader should run or commit suicide doesn´t hold any water because they were perceptions of humans not natural. Naturally in any combat, you assess the strength of your enemy against yours, and if it is overwhelming like it was against the Biafran then you will be not only suicidal but also foolish to commit your side to a military confrontation because the outcome is already programmed. What a good commander will do will be to hide behind a fortress which in this case is a diplomatic fortress so long it takes you to consolidate your strength and position. If you are a Christian you must have heard God being referred to as the Rock Of Ages. That´s because being under God offers you sanctuary from the devil because only a fool confronts the devil directly. It takes being in a position of AUTHORITY to be able to confront and defeat the devil otherwise you will be defeated. That´s why it is not really military might that wins wars but rather wisdom, understanding, and knowledge and that was exactly the case with the Nigerian civil war. What really brought the Igbos to their knees was the Blockade idea, not the superior military might of the Nigerian Army. People start dying of hunger and malnutrition mostly children which is another aspect of the war that reveals Ojukwu for who he really was a coward and a bad military commander. Now tell me how many of Ojukwu's immediate family members die of kwashiorkor, malnutrition, and others? How many of the top Biafran top military commanders of the war and their immediate family dies of the effect of the blockade? I´m sure they all had more than enough to eat and drink while the people they were leading were starving to death. Shouldn´t he as a commander have taken the possibility of that happening into account and taken the path of diplomacy instead? And while that was going on shouldn´t he have thrown in the towel to save his people before it got to the deadly stage he allowed it to spiral into? That was a cowardly act on his part so believe it or not he is accountable and responsible for the death of those not others.

No, General Ojukwu never had been a coward, but fighting with all his virtues to defend the rights and lives of his Eastern regions peoples. In fact the one General Gowon who declared the police action was the coward whose the resultant issues of that brutal war perished three million Easterners and thousands of the federal troops, that brutal war turned Nigeria into anarchy where now till today, no Igbo man or Eastern person can invade the presidency through an election. I do think Gowon is honest at all about that war, even though he goes about conducting prayers, in that Gowon has not apologized nor ask forgiveness for his brutal war, that he said was civil. But Ojukwu did apologize and even General Philip Effiong did also.
Let the Nigerian reality speak for itself...The Great Ojukwu was right all along; had he won the war, today, the Igbos and many other tribes in Nigeria would be better off. Sadly, the war was won by the fools and hypocrites of the land; today all we have is more problems in Nigeria
It is true that the 1966 coup d'état basically led to the civil war. Ojukwu was a hero! It is true that he left for exile when Biafra fell. But, he did the logical thing to get his people out from an area where they were being massacred, and nothing was being done by the government of Gen. Gowon to prevent the inhumane massacre, and suffering of the Igbos, and other minority tribes living in the North. Any sensible person would have done the same thing Ojukwu did. Tribe regardless, you don't kill innocent and unarmed people, and expect someone in a position to rescue them to be silent about it. That is evil, it doesn't work like that. No one should blame Ojukwu. Pure and simple. God is so great that he is still keeping most of the key players of the civil war alive to say exactly what happened. That is when Nigeria will embrace 'reconciliation'. But, they insist on playing the game of chess and unnecessary ego.
Jack the puppet gowon. Ojukwu is a super hero, an army general of a super privileged birth and that not withstanding. Has jack gowon gone into battle before? British puppet is what gowon is
Please refuse to be blind to the truth. @Amir Liz they had helpfrom south africa, france and portugal to say the least, and they surrendered when they had the highest amount of ammo and arms they ever held. They were ultimately doomed to fail. The federal side was not only bigger, but the minorities in Biafra would not have taken Igbo dominance for long and their own war effort was undermined by the profiteers and thieves in their own ranks as well as Ojukwus divisive way of running his military forces, pitting subordinates against each other to ensure his own grip on power
I agree that the Igbos, Yoruba and other tribes were marginalized by the Northerners this was the plan of the British anyways to keep the north in power so they can keep taking our resources. so many people died so many lives perished all because of what?? The tussle for power Ojukwu knew that Biafra wasn't ready for war they didn't have the logistics, they didn't have enough arms Biafra wasn't equiped even when the Nsuka university boys insisted for war he could have explained to them the consequences of war, because of him my people died may the souls continue to RIP IJN he couldn't even fight to the end instead he ran away💔 I just can't comprehend what was truly on his mind, He wasn't a visionary leader, He wasn't a master strategist, He didn't submit to the spirit of God for guidance and knowledge. Listen very carefully Mr Ademola, Ojukwu will remain a hero in the eyes of his people. A true son who personified what his people believed in. He sounded the Igbo drum loud and clear, he dared to challenge the norm, he had laid the foundation for the identity of the igbos. Today every Igbo man knows that they had the courage to fight against oppression in the past. They can fight against oppression tomorrow. That was the greatest achievement. If other people in Nigeria cannot, the Igbo can and will.

Ojukwu remains a hero for ever

Ojukwu was one of the greatest Nigerian to ever live!
Strange compliment coming from Omo Yoruba. Why such praise on Ojukwu when majority of your Yoruba kinsmen called him a COWARD?

@@chinazoucheaga4825 I feel sorry for people who claim that they want Biafra today, they have no idea what they are talking about
@@chinazoucheaga4825 so much fear in your words, so much terror.
It was not a killing, it was a massacre!
The most known war commander either commit suicide or go on exile. If you don't want you can form your own history, but just know that 1969 and 2023 has about 54 years in between.
To rest of us in Africa, a war hero

The answer is, A Hero
It is true that the 1966 coup d'état basically led to the civil war. Ojukwu was a hero! It is true that he left for exile when Biafra fell. But, he did the logical thing to get his people out from an area where they were being massacred, and nothing was being done by the government of Gen.

Your hero Ojukwu fled just before the war ended...that's what a "hero" would do right?
@@MegaJohny56 facts
@@DapiaZumshakMNIOB Nelson Medina also flew from South African I hope you have also read about that ? So stop been foolish
Ojukwu to me is no Hero💔💔💔 As for Gowon the blood of the dead will forever be on his head wicked man thank God He is alive to see his people being killed by his own people in the North.
Ojukwu isn't an hero. Same step Nnamdi Kanu taking... Heroes do not run way by leaving his followers to death. Heroes die with his followers. Ojukwu is a boss, not a leader.
Igbos don't care if he is a boss. The problem of dictatorship is complex. He is leading his people out of marginalization, whether it is done as a democrat or as a commander that is not the point now. Igbos are looking up to a person who can pull them away from bundage. Stop crying more than the bereaved, you are not an Igbo man.
See how Gowon was glowing during the interview.. He is as much responsible as ojukwu for the killings
Not sure what he wanted Ojukwu to do. Just stand by and watch the Igbos being slaughtered?
@@westyraviz Ummn, stand by his people and fight! Like he claimed to, duh
@@mimiwork9535 You know nothing about Ojukwu and the civil war. Go and read the transcripts of the Aburi Accord then you would know who the man Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu really was. Gowon is the biggest of cowards.
@Julian Azubike Look, I am not saying Odumegwu Ojukwu is a bad man. I consider him a passionate leader, one who would be described as "a man of the people, for the people". However, it is wrong to dismiss the fact that he was wrong in his approach to " freedom" for his people. Odumegwu Ojukwu ran away! Because he knew the consequences of what would befall him for what he had done. Yet, people died, people fought, and people suffered, for a cause a majority of them knew nothing about. All I'm saying is if Ojukwu knew he could no longer lead the movement (obviously) he could have stopped it, rather than let millions of innocent civilians die. It's not befitting of a leader.
@@mimiwork9535 wtf 😬
History always remember great men...
Great man who ran away?
@@landamalome2077 Nelson Medina also run away when him was about to be killed even Mary took jesus and run away when jesus was about to be kill …..stop been foolish mr man
Ojukwu took actions like Moses did when he killed those Egyptians just to make sure his people is not harmed ... If he doesn't avenge the death of the Easteners that was massacred during the progrom he would have been a coward igbos were massacred across the country as a head of state it's his right to do something IKEMBA LIVES ON
Ojukwu is our hero.
I know the Great Ojukwu really wanted to liberate his people but he became hungry for power later,, he definitely knew he couldn't win against the entire country without alliance from Europe,, or any African country... I have watched three videos of Biafra and Nigeria and honestly,, he was a coward to have fled his people he swore to at the beginning to protect... Adolf Hitler committed suicide rather than escaping or allowing himself to be captured. Honestly,, you Easterners,, Ojukwu wasn't a great leader till the end and this is what Nnamdi kanu will still do but kanu will be worse.
Fighting for a country that can never happen,, not even the UN or the OAU will ever approve it. A lot of people dying from the East,, it pains me... We should come together South,, East and West to fight the Norths
A great HERO i will name my son after him even when am not from the eastern past of Nigeria.. will missed Ekeba 1 of africa
Ikemba bro.
Ojukwu is a great man who understands the people he is working with and today, we are seeing the reflection of what he, ojukwu saw far behind today in Nigeria
Adieu Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the General of the People’s Army. History shall vindicate the just in the Nigerian project.
Allah yakara karfi da Lafiya Gowon 🇳🇬💪💪
Dan inska! Ojikwu is still our hero, you guys killed us brutally during the 1966 progrom in the north before the wall
Look at okpo Gowon who should examine his own conscience.
What
as Nigerians achieve what ojukwu was fighting for is still happening today ojukwu is my hero i love him. Now 2021 after BIAFRA it is ODUDUWA nation so sone thing is wrong with NIGERIA
At Aburi what happened? Who refused to implement what was agreed? Who brought war to the poor people Gowon on talked about? What did you do to help that same poor people you talked about? Who gave those poor people £20. 00 no matter the amount they had? Deceiver, hypocrites, liars, thank God for the internet. The tape is available.
He was such a very handsome man RIP to a great man
Being handsome is not one of the things he's known for. He himself knows he's not handsome in any form.
Msy he soul rest in peace
Ojukwu is hero
Ego centric war that was aimed at serving the personal interests of some persons. Sadly, some people were made to think it was a was for their liberation.
Eventually, when and where the main actors sat down and shared glasses of expensive wine to reconcile their differences, the gullible masses knew nothing. It's just a pity for a country.
Spot on
Nigeria would rather kill Igbos than keep to the Abhuri accord which focused on true fedralisim. Hypocrites. It's paining you that his fears are now your reality. Joke is on you.
And today, the ego Nigeria fought has been vanquished and the same Brutality and neglect of Nigerian citizens that existed before still prevails under the same Nigeria.
Me, you know the wrong things or you don't know at all. Maybe you should go read.
Gowon why did your conscience not judge you for not honouring aburi agreement 🤝 in Ghana when you returned to Nigeria.
Take it or leave it
He is a hero.
Ike mba is hero
Great narration but your voice could be more louder/audible
Gowon today how far
Ask am ooohhh
Ojukwu remains Nigeria hero whether u like it or not. He saw today as far back as 1966. Check out killings in middle belt, north east, etc. U will understand better. British deceiving the northern into believing Igbos are their problem. But today see where we are. Gowon is today regretted that war.Niger coup is as a result of bad leadership resulting from their colonial masters. Dim Ojukwu wanted Confederation, but north did not understand this. They believed he wanted to Lord them.Wrong narrative from British to keep deceiving and depriving the indigenous people their wealth.
The Ojukwu I "Oluwatola Abraham" know very well, with how he struggled and fought for freedom 💪was a good man. RIP to a Legend ❤️❤️
Ojukwu was a hero!
I love him. His a true leader Biafra will come
