  • This is an art project I do with my upper elementary students. First they design a stamp using a washable marker. If they make a mistake, the ink from the marker easily washes off with just a wet paper towel. Next, students etch their design into the styrofoam using a pencil. I recommend they use a dull pencil because it will etch a wider line which usually shows up better in the final print. After etching, they roll ink onto the stamp and print it. I recommend making a few prints of the full stamp using different colors. Next, students wash and dry their stamps and cut it to pieces. Each piece is cut out and becomes a separate smaller stamp. In my example of a fish, I cut out the fins, the head and the body then printed each of those pieces using different colors of ink.
