    I use a cheap basic rugged phone which is waterproof. Gives me exactly same as that device. I use Maps Me app which doesn't need data connection and uses phone GPS. When I need live traffic I turn my phone hot spot on in my pocket and this gives me live traffic on the rugged phone. A cheap rugged phone is £100. 😊 The phone mounted on simple mirror stalk mount and the rugged phone has a 5,000 battery which lasts 5 hours. For longer trips you can put a USB power supply on handlebar linked to the bike battery. I used Maps Me app to tour Thailand on a Honda 125 Wave. The rugged phone worked seamlessly in my pocket. Never got lost and never needed live data.....😊 I would NEVER listen to music while riding, it's not a safe thing to do in my opinion.

      Another good cheap option using a cheap phone. I know a few people that do that as well.

    Without wanting to be a "Misery." I wouldn't be keen to use this in France. Listening to music through headphones while riding ANY motorcycle, pedal cycle, or car has been unlawful since 2015 and the French Police will fine you for doing so. Great on a horse as that is exempt from this particular traffic law. 😁😁.

    • @GillyBikes
      @GillyBikes  6 месяцев назад

      I don’t think they do a horse attachment. 😂😂😂. I only got it for the sat nav. If I go over to France normally just have the coms on minus the music.

      Flat speakers that are installed in your helmet are legal, its headphones and ear pods that are illegal.

    Never fit any gadgets ,phones or sat navs to my bikes . Never had any issues finding my way around on my motorcycles without a sat nav gadget . Also the only sound I want to hear whist riding a motorcycle ,is the sound of the engine .

      I was always the same as you. It’s a relatively new thing for me. I got coms a few years ago and it transformed my group rides. It made riding better. Even safer. Being able to warn another rider about an idiot car driver / lorry or a speed trap is just a few bonuses. I went from that to satnav. Brilliant if you don’t know the area. No messing around you just get to where you need to be.

      @@GillyBikes If unfamiliar with an area ,I have always used these things called road direction sign’s & also on occasions road maps if needed . I can’t stand & don’t wear earplugs whilst riding ,& I certainly don’t want to listen to music ,or any one jabbering in my lugholes whilst riding my motorcycle either . I am also not a fan of group rides ,as it encourages some riders to take risky overtakes ,they should never attempt . My preference is to ride solo these days ,& only ride in groups when it’s an Easter egg run ,memorial or other such like bikers run . As far as I am concerned the less gubbins & stuff diverting riders attention from the road ,& drawing power off the bikes battery the better .

    I kind of zoned out watching that... no offence, I'm just a total luddite when it comes to tech. I can just about work my Google maps and listen to the radio simultaneously which is adequate for my needs.
    Bloody loved your French tour vlog, although it could have been longer, it was very entertaining. (Didn't know you ride a Niken. I really want to try one, must inspire confidence in dreadful conditions!)👍

    Oh really....modern tech is good, but...take a map as well...old school tech, never fails...

      @GillyBikes  6 месяцев назад

      I do love a map as well. But the modern tech has the most up to date apps with traffic issues and importantly fuel stops and cafe’s 😉

    Looks a good bit of kit but i have no use for it, i ride alone and the last thing i want is people to phone me. I have never listened to music whilst riding a bike in my 50 years of biking, depends on how good your exhaust sounds, but it is cheaper than a bike dedicated sat nav so that alone makes it worth the money. Does it have a GPS speedo on it? One more thing, what model did you buy? loads on the site and i didnt see the model number. Did you order from China or USA?

    • @GillyBikes

      I just followed the link and went for the 7 inch bike one. I’ve only done basic stuff with it so far. I’m still trying to figure out everything it can do. I only wanted it for the maps but it can do lots more. After my video came out Carpuride have contacted me and given me a discount code as well. Apparently 30% off EASTER30

    So does this run purely through your phone ? Does it have its own GPS? So unless you haven't got a phone contact it's not much use

  • @Atrip111
    @Atrip111 6 месяцев назад

    Do you have to have carplay on phone. Or what is bluetooth comnection for

    • @GillyBikes
      @GillyBikes  6 месяцев назад

      Works just like a car set. So if you have an iPhone it connects to car play. The Bluetooth connection puts your compatible apps on screen. Music / navigation etc. or if you have an android phone it connects to android auto. Same kind of thing just not Apple.

    • @Atrip111
      @Atrip111 6 месяцев назад

      @@GillyBikes yeah I wasn't sure if two separate things if bluetooth was just for phone calls and Android auto for apps. My Van like that it connects to my phone but it's just for a phone calls. There is a cheap one on my bike when I bought it used it doesn't work threw out. I see much cheaper ones but I don't think they can connect to USB like this one and how I would do it too. There is still a headphone Style plug sticking out that he had hooked up to an accessory switch that my driving lights are on as well. I think this price skyrocketed on these things from when I first saw them. That chigee thing is out there too a little more expensive.
