You don't pay any extra, but you'd be supporting me and my channel! I appreciate your support SO MUCH and thank you for helping me, my brand and my channel grow! Every little contribution means so much to me and I would never recommend a product that I wouldn't use myself. Thanks for watching and REMEMBER: keep being awesome, keep smiling and keep making beautiful things!
Personally, I feel you can manage with what you have right now. When your making 50 each scents, then increase. I recommend getting lots containers or buckets to pre-measure your base, whip, then individually scent & color them. Makes the process faster. A piping bag (xl) with a wide cut tip will bag out the process faster. Save your money until your volume gets bigger and more consistent. You will want to focus on profit in your first 3 years at tax time; basically pace yourself so your always showing profits.
Yesssssss! This is what I was going to suggest. Master batch and split!
Investing in an industrial mixer will be the better option. The demand for your products has obviously increased, so you need a mixer big enough to save you time and prevent the spills you were speaking about. The new mixer will pay for itself in the long run. Happy soaping!❤🎉
I agree! Thank you for the input!!
Exactly, otherwise if you get a bigger kitchen aid then as your business grows it will be no time before you outgrow it and will still have to go industrial or commercial.
Hi there. I'm a maker/formulator in Barbados. Kitchen Aid has a Commercial range, which is a step up from their Professional Range. I believe the bowl on the Commercial is the same size as that on the Professional. But the motor is more powerful. And they are NSF certified for use in commercial kitchens. My suggestion would be to get two commercial Kitchen Aids. That way, you can have more than one batch of anything going at once, and, if, god forbid, one died, you'd have another that's working so that your production wouldn't be heavily impacted. The last thing you'd want is to have one mixer you depend on and then it died in the middle of busy season. Just a thought. That's my setup, and it works really well for me.
This is so good to know, thank you!! ❤
BTW, Jerika, this is Ms Tawny and Hubby. We started watching you a few summers ago. Hubby started watching your Vlogmas last year. He would yell downstairs and say"Hey are the Zimmerman's on yet ?" LOL.
Addicted.
As a Bubble bff and a customer, I'm waiting to have soap, SC, and cream all in the same scent in every scent you offer except coffee. The coffee soap is a great exfoliant when needed. Love scent matching my body care routine.
Another idea to think about is to offer scent and color free SC and cream to those who may have allergies. No extra work needed for scent and color free items. Your SC and cream should not be denied by to those with allergies. 🧡💞
Agree! I have allergies to scents myself. Patchouli is one for sure.
JoAnna - Soap Gal is the best person to ask about upgrading your mixer. She can tell you if the industrial one is worth the investment based on the volume of your work. She has gone through every stage of growth and was once where you are now. Although, I wonder if a 80qt. large production pot tipper is your best bet. That could serve every product you make - both small or larger amounts. Just a thought.
Interesting! Will definitely look into this!!
5:55 would folding it in with a spatula maybe work for now, i put off big expenses til next tax season or when a great sale happens! :) struggles of a penniless soapmaker haha
I believe it's time for you to take another leap and go for the industrial mixer. I seen a comment that said ask the soap gal and I think that's a great option.
Yeah she’s such an inspiration!
Yes I’m in between both holidays. I tend to get forgotten, but that’s OK. I think that’s why I love to give gifts
I loved it see the smile. It brings on their faces when they are thought of.❤
Me too!! ❤
Those mugs! Totes adorbs! Oh and invest in the industrial mixer! 😊
Yes, invest in the industrial mixer
I've seen kitchen aid mixers with a domed metal top on the cooking challenges on tv. ❤
I would just go for it and start using a commercial mixer and a slab mold. Since you're a one-person operation this would help a lot to stay stocked.
You’re right!
I also have a mixer around this size, i create a master batch in a massive container then split it up into smaller batches to add to the mixer at the same time as the scent. Industrial mixers are ££££
Get the mixer, you will use it for more than one product and it could make an entire batch in one go versus 2 - 3 different batches…a 15quart should do well…
Depending on your resources, a split batch with a second mixer, would hold off the larger expense of an industrial mixer. If you have the resources opt for the industrial, because you are going to need it!
Look at the prices on the bigger Kitchen Aid and an Industrial mixer...but I would potentially go with industrial as you want to continue growing.
Absolutely wonderful looking sugar scrub! I love your blogs and look forward to it every day! I know it’s extra work for you but so worth it!
Thank you so much for watching!! I’m having a blast! ☺️
The nice part about living in the States is having way more access to restaurant supply stores. Most of them sell new and reconditioned.
I'd buy a cheap/used kitchenaid to do multiple batches at once, then once your busy season is over, look at what you need and can pay off quickly.
I totally agree! The amount of suppliers for various things is three fold here!
I would say either the larger kitchen aid mixer or the industrial one. Depends on the cost difference I think. If it’s over 1200 you can split your deduction over a few years. (I’m a bookkeeper for small businesses during the day)
Bosch mixers are made for large batches that might be an idea?
I’ll look into this!
Maybe get just a little bigger. Also maybe get the sheild so that your stuff doesn't fly out
Yeah! 😅 a shield would be helpful 😂
I have a December birthday! It’s actually next Saturday:) Thankfully, though, my husband and family make sure I don’t feel overshadowed by the holidays:) They’re the best! Love your videos! I think an industrial mixer is the way to go! It may be less stressful for you in the long run:)
Me too!!!♐️♐️♐️
Happy birthday month!! You’re right… bigger batches = less work overall!
I came to the website and tried to buy some items for Christmas, but everything was sold out, except the body lotion. Disappointed. I would have loved to get a couple soaps as well. So if people want to buy, increasing production - like buying a large mixer - seems to be a good plan. 😊
Oh no! I’m working on it, sorry about that ☹️
I have that same mixer in white. I hate it. I got a new one on Amazon that I love ❤. The kitchen aid attachments never touch the bowl! Hate it. I had another and it was the same. I'm over kitchen aid
Get the large mixer . You will need it! So great to see you in the US living the American Dream ❤.
You need a splash shield for that mixer. Anyway, if you want to go super big..why not check out a "out of business" sale for a restaurant or bakery that is closing...maybe getting a used big mixer may be more affordable. You just need to decide if you can invest that much money in more supplies for bigger batches. How long is the shelf life of sugar scrubs and lotions?
Thank you for taking us on your date with you. Looked like Gibson wanted to go too 🙂 As for your mixer, I am all for sticking with Kitchen Aid but then getting the larger bowl. You mention not knowing how big you want to get and if you stay below the industrial-size equipment, you will stay at your comfortable pace 🙂
Thanks for coming along with us and thank you for your suggestion ❤
Looks like you need to upgrade to a larger vessel, one determinating factor may be weather or not you would also need to upgrade your electricity supply in your studio to accommodate an industrial mixer?
Yup! That is something important to consider!
Katie from Royalty Soaps uses a Cooklee stand mixer, she says it works very well.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Invest in the industrial mixer ❤
Thank you ❤!
I don't have a commercial size mixer but I've seen SO many makers upgrade to them. Definitely ask those that have scaled up
Here in AZ there's Standard Restaurant Supply & they sell new & used (liquidated) equipment. Shop around
That’s a good suggestion, I’ll have to do that!
I bought a second hand bigger mixer and it’s made a world of difference :)
Good to know! I definitely think it’s time 😂
Two days in a row I open YT and you've uploaded a minute ago! Lucky me 💚
Hope you enjoyed it! ☺️
Do not think you will go wrong with a new mixer. You have grown so much and no doubt will continue to. ❤🎉❤ good luck dear Heart and Christmas blessings
Thank you so much!! I think it’ll be a 2024 purchase for sure!
Your website items are Sold-Out, which means growing- I would suggest purchasing the industrial mixer. You won't regret it- In Texas, we say, "Go big or go home" Good luck with your newly launched site.
Thanks for the tip! ❤️
I would ask the bigger question, how large do you want your business to be? Then determine how to upgrade, by step or all at once.
May I suggest reading how Muddy Mint (soap company), handle expansion.
That’s an awesome question ! I love muddy mints growth story! I’ve followed it since her ex husbands Mr money moustache blog and her early Etsy days. She’s so inspiring!!
@@JerikaZimmerman read her current notice on her website. She’s selling equipment, check them out, you might find some equipment deals.
Do you have a link for your large piping bags?
Birthday’s in December are AWFUL! Mine is the 23rd, my hubby’s is 29th. NO one remembers. 🫠
I think it would be a good idea to invest in a larger mixture. Spend the money once and get the largest size--then you won't need to replace it.
Off you decide to upgrade you could always sleep the one you are using to a soaper ❤
That's a good idea!
@@JerikaZimmerman I would be interested
A quick google showed a Vevor commercial 15 quart mixer for less than $600 currently!
Whoaaa that’s a good price in terms of professional equipment .
My niece’s birthday is 12/27 😭 because she’s still fairly young, I get her two items but typically give them both on either Christmas or her birthday
I have a commercial kitchen aid. It's 8 quarts. Trying to put it all in a regular mixer bowl just doesn't work.
Curious why you don't use a microwave?
My birthday is December 21 ha! I was more of a consideration when I was younger, but with certain family members I had to pick if I wanted a birthday gift OR a Christmas gift. I couldn’t have both lol
It was typically cold on my birthday so I could never have a “fun” birthday party like other kids. 🤷🏽♀️
Now, it doesn’t really make a difference to me.
I often forget that my birthday is near because “life”. I compensate by singing happy birthday to myself Year-round at 12:21 o’clock 😅😂
🧼🧼🧼Also, you definitely need a bigger mixer. The decision about how big will be up to you. Meaning, what will save you the most time (repeat batches) and how big do you want to grow. Upgrading equipment is always a tough choice but you know better than we do what’s the best business decision for you right now.
I’ve been making scrubs weekly so i think it’s time! And your bday being so close to Christmas is tough! 😅
Kitchen aid 8qt mixer is $849. On their website. 😢I have no idea about industrial mixers, that tip forward or anything like that. That seems like a big jump though. But I’m only a consumer of your products, hobbyist maker.
Yep… so much money no matter what route I go. But probably worth it in the long run 😅
As a soap maker, I always ask myself this question : will I be able to pay this equipment with a year of income from the products I will make with it… if the answer is yes and this equipment will simplify my job, then I go for it. I would rather go with the industrial one though, because going in between, you would probably think it is not enough quite quickly… have a wonderful Christmas 🎅🏻🎄
I think you should get an industrial mixer. We are manifesting your business to be booming girl!
Yes! Love this!
You guys are the besttttt❤❤❤
Tiggy from future primitive soaps owns a commercial mixer. Ask her what she thinks. I have the largest kitchenaid and for me it currently works and I love the size, but I would talk to someone who knows the pros and cons of owning a commercial mixer. I prefer to make stock as it’s ordered and I do not store a lot of stock beyond soaps. Expense would definitely be a factor as well as space for someone considering an upgrade Just throwing out some thoughts.
Your thoughts and input are valued!! I’ll go and check tiggy out!
@@JerikaZimmerman in the meantime, what I do might help you. I master batch the base product and store that in a large tub. When a product is ordered you only need to measure the base, add color and fragrance. It saves having to store jars of product that say may be moving slower and provides for the faster selling product. In the long term this has saved me time, space and product which translates to cost. Hope this helps and gives you some ideas. Love your new space btw.🙂
I always enjoy your videos! And I’m loving your high tide lotion and scrub! Smells amazing! Ty from Philadelphia ❤
My birthday is December 26th!!! It's has always sucked!!!
Aw 😢, that’s tough for sure!
If you have a continuous large orders for your scrubs then I would definitely invest in a caterers kitchen aid
I'm the 11th and my Daughter is the 19th. I learned long ago as a Teen, to ask for the expensive gift as a combo gift, then I would get it. My Parents made sure the Christmas tree could not go up until the 12th and made sure to celebrate me. Having the experience of being a December baby, I try to make sure I do something special for my Daughter on her Birthday, We used to do the Nutcracker as a yearly event, but she's much older now and prefers Broadway or concerts now. Thank god we like similar music.
This is such a good idea!!! I’m glad your parents made the effort to make your birthday extra special ❤
All 3 of my kids are December babies!!!
Wow!!! Lots of celebrating! What an extra fun time of year for your family ❤❤❤
@@JerikaZimmerman kept us busy when they were young.
My daughter & 1 of my Akitas are Xmas babies
Aw ! Happy birthday month!
Always go bigger than you need so as your business grows you don’t have to keep spending money on the next size up
the commercial mixer is a game changer!
I’m thinking so!
I am also at the point where making 10 jars of lotion/ sugar scrub aren’t enough at this time. I will be interested to hear more of what you decide….
Isn’t it a tough/good spot to be in? ❤
Oh, We know you are so busy but Hubby wants to know if you will put some men soap out for Cale and the guys?
Pull the walks and roof to add insulation 👍🇨🇦
Good suggestion!
Can you mix on low until combined, then split the batch and then whip? I love your videos and your products look lovely!!!
When I turn on the machine, it’s on low - the momentum of the blades starts so quick. I’ll have to try different techniques until we get a larger machine/bowl/solution 😅
Do you have space for an industrial mixer to sit out all the time? If not, you might prefer a bigger Kitchenaid. Also, do you plan to make the sugar scrub in huge batches, or will you always prefer to keep smaller batches? 🤔 I purchased extra bowls for my Kitchenaid and extra paddles so that I can just swap out and keep mixing. It was pretty inexpensive. You will figure it out!
This is also a great suggestion!
My husband and son share a December birthday, so we try to make it a point to have a separate celebration for them. My husband does tend to get overshadowed by my son (kid birthdays are kind of a bigger deal), but I always try to make the day special for him as well! It does make December an extra busy month for us though!
That’s a good idea! Lots of celebrations for your family this time of year ❤
Have you tried the lip balm yet? Did it work out? I’m eager because my personal recipe gets grainy towards the end as well. So, as a patron member, I’m looking forward to hearing your results with your new recipe.
Results coming soon! ❤
Definitely, think a commercial mixer would be a good investment, not just for volume, but also good for saving your hand and arm health. My daughter is a December baby. She's on the 16th, definitely cutting close to Christmas. She always gets separate gifts. Most combine, but immediate family separates the gift giving😊🤣❤️💞🇨🇦🇯🇲🇹🇹
The hand and arm health point is important!!! Thanks for the reminder and the suggestion!
Deffidently, get an industrial mixer! More product more profit. I love your channel! Hope to purchase from you.
Yes…. I’m leaning that way!
Not sure how your heat is set up in your studio Jerika, just curious if you can set it up on a timer app?
This is a good idea! I’ll look into this!
@@JerikaZimmerman hope it helps ya. Good luck.
If you gonna do it, GO BIG.
I’m leaning that way!
Hi there! Loving your videos. In regards to your mixer/production an upgrade is always desirable; but I personally think you can increment efficiency if you do a one color one scent batch at a time, I think your investing too much time dividing, measuring , using four different piping bags, using a hand mixer, etc. I can see you doing that to complete orders, only un emergency’s? Perhaps calculating your recipe for 2.7 Kg instead of 3, and being able to use your mixer to add everything? Scoop it out from mixing bowl to piping bag? Just a thought with lots of love and admiration! Many blessings! Love from Mexico.
Thank you soooo much! My process definitely needs improvement ❤
Hi, could you please tell me what do i need to start soap business in terms of certification and any regulations things?
Most states have that info online 😊
Go big ,the demand seems high so keep your business flowing
Thank you!!! ❤
Id get the biggest mixer available. The demand on your products calls for it. It will eventually pay for itself.
Agreed! ❤
A commercial mixer would be the way to go. i Just got a stand mixer my self which was an upgrade for me instead of a hand mixer.
Thank you for the suggestion! ❤
I think that you should go a little bigger since you said 10 would last you a little while. But, with that being said, do what’s best for you.
My birthday is on Christmas. I don’t get jipped on gifts but nothing is ever open to celebrate. 😅
Happy birthday month!!
Industrial!
Man! It seems like an obvious choice!
Get a commercial mixer as I think due to your brands popularity it would be in your best interest or you will be making them every day
My birthday is December 31st, so everyone parties on my bday but they just don't know it!! 😂
That’s a good way to look at it!! 😂
Get the industrial one. That way, you won't have to spend money on upgrades.
That’s so true!!
if your going to be a bear! be a grizzly bear love your content.
🍓❤ Yummy looking scrubs!!
Thank you 😋
As a December baby - I didn’t get “cheated” for my bday until I was like 16 and then from there until now, it was like this is your bday and Christmas present - I was like there are 2 bdays happening soooo don’t lump mine in with Jesus 😂 it’s entirely TWO different days lol and mine comes first lol
Aw 😂😂😂 ! I hope the gifts were big ones if they lumped your bday and Christmas together!
Also - I think you should get the industrial mixer - it will be worth the investment@@JerikaZimmerman
If you plan on keeping this business going and scaling it up,which I'm pretty sure you are, then it's a no-brainer to get an industrial mixer. You will be paying thousands for one. My sister got one for her business at Webstaurant. Cost over 7k.
I'm pretty sure Kitchen Aid only goes up to 8 qts. Commercial and that's why she had to get the big boy.
Whoooo ! 7k! 💸 But it’s definitely necessary to scale, which I do plan to do! 😅
@JerikaZimmerman yeah they are not cheap. She went all in though. There are less expensive ones though obviously.
Beautiful scubs, enjoy your date night
Thank you! We had an awesome time!
@@JerikaZimmerman those date nights are important when everyone has such busy life's. Been married for 40 years
birthdays in december a not sow great not if you also have family have a birthdays in november and januari we heb 10 in our family and than you have also the Christmas Days.
go big or go home as they say
Darling Darling Date Night Video……..You looked amazing…..but what is with the KIDs hair?……
I asked him before I pressed the record button but he wanted his hair to look like that 😂
