  • If you live in the US, chances are your home uses forced-air central ducted heating. And if you think about radiant heating, in-floor heating might be what comes to mind. In Europe, radiant heating on walls is the most common method of heat distribution. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, space heating is the largest home energy expense, accounting for 45 % of monthly energy bills. The way you heat your home will have a major impact on how much you pay to stay warm. We'll explore the advantages, drawbacks, and frequently asked questions of radiant versus forced-air heat distribution including comfort, energy efficiency, air quality, and sound of operation. Enjoy!

Great video Katha! I agree that radiant heat is by far superior for comfort! I have a propane boiler and cast iron radiators in my 100 year old farm house but I rarely run it due to costs of propane- it is a very efficient boiler, but it is much cheaper for me to run my forced air geothermal unit for heating and cooling

Thank you very much! That makes sense. I really like that you have that geothermal system on your old farm house. 😀

Radiant heat is far superior. Radiation heats things that absorb IR like big bags of water, (people). Once you live in a house built with heated floors you will never consider forced air again. Hot liquids transmit much more heat than warm air. Hydronic heating is also more thermally efficient since it heats and maintains heat in thermal mass. Blowing around warm air is just dumb for heating.

Radiant heat is indeed significantly more energy efficient. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. 🙏
