What a fabulous video! Mind you, this is just so useful. This channel is helping loads of foreigners who are struggling with speaking English. Basically i love this channel, thanks bbc
To start with I watched this video 7years after you posted it’s very useful to watch, actually you guys are more than amazing & I love watching your videos since they're easy to understand & basically, I've learned more from this channel…come to think of it I also enjoy listening to your podcast which I think you should upload more of it, anyways love you guys, x thanks!
Actually, your teaching method is great... As I was saying, your teaching method is not only great but also found very useful. By the way, BBC is a very good platform to improve English language 😀😀....
Hello Sian, Thanks a lot for this wonderful lesson. I love the way you pronounce the words by emphasising each of them. I am in love with your pronunciation. I show your videos to my students in order for them to understand the correct way of pronunciation and intonation. Loves from Turkey. Cheers :)
Hello BBC! I'm grateful to you because since I started watching your videos my learning and teaching English have greatly increased! So... I want to keep improving my English, please don't stop teaching us! Greetings from Valledupar Colombia!
A big hello from the UK! Thanks so much for sharing your story. Your success stories really motivate us! We're so happy that we could help you improve your English. 🥰
basically, I watched your video to learn the proper usage of linking words. Not only did I learn some of them in context, but also got very funny story.

Hi there I am grateful because I've learned something new this day Really I like studying English I will activate the little bell thank you for sharing this video I hope you have a nice Friday blessings you
Come to think of it, your teaching method is top-notch! Mind you, I did learn numerous practical English expressions for daily usage. By the way, can you create more of this tutorial type? I'll be grateful if you do!
Actually, I overuse your linking words lol and now it sounds unnatural and completely forced. Guess I'll be punishing myself with a hard face slap for my incompetence to adapt words to daily conversation :3

Oh, come to think of it, I didn't know all the example words are called discourse market. Thank you BBC teachers. Mind me, I need to watch more videos of BBC Learning English.
Hi Harsha Vardhan. Thank you for your comment. We are glad you find our videos useful. Visit our website for more videos, guides and quizzes to help you improve your English: www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/
What I'm thinking is of Thomas Shelby' accent and style of speaking in Peaky Blinders in his Parliament speech 😃 or may be i listen to American' a lot that's why it seems to be 19th century Birmingham accent rather it's common in British 😅 i love this❤️
Actually, it sounds more nature after we use discourse markers(my English teacher called signpost) in our speaking sentences. Basically, in Chinese we don't have things like this, and we don't pay attention on connections between sentences, sub-sentences too much. So in this sense, I reckon English is kind of more accurate than Chinese. But any way, I do believe Chinese has its own beauty, so does any other languages. BTW, as I was saying, I love BBC learning English, and I love your screws as well.
We agree. Every language has its own beauty and finding the parts of a language that you love is one of the joys of learning. We're really glad to hear that you're enjoying learning with us. Thanks so much for commenting.
Hai mam, I am menaga from India at Tamil nadu in Chennai. I like English. I learnt grammar to get fluency but I couldn't speak. I will have to become a native speaker.. so I need a partner to direct class...
Discourse markers : Help connect what we’re saying and tell the listener what information is coming up. Mind you = Eso si
You know I was hostinh an amazing dinner? Actually, it was a complete disaster… Mind you , I did say “turn up when you want”.. Anyway, as I was saying, I burnt the meat ,…. Oh come to think of it, I completely forgot come to think of it = Ahora que lo pienso So basically, everyone went home… Anyway, how was your evening? By the way, before I forget
Hi miss. I have a question about Persian language. You accepte that Persian language is mother or the (base) language in all of world.?for example English language &French language and Italian language and Latin language and many other languages are baby of PERSIAN LANGUAGE.?Are you accept it?please explain about that matter. Thanks.
Hi, the discourse marker 'mind you' means: 'I've had an afterthought and it contrasts what I've just said.' For example, "The restaurant was so busy we couldn't get a table ... mind you, it was Saturday night!" Go to our website for more help with this: www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/english/course/towards-advanced/unit-16/session-1
Both. Some being normally found in formal and others in informal speech. For further information, see the section on Discourse markers in "Oxford English Grammar Course: Advanced: A Grammar Practice Book for Advanced Students of English", Michael Swan and Catherine Walker.
Hi Lalenkawla Lalenkawla ! You're right that this is not standard grammar for a question. In the video, Sian is talking on the phone to a friend. Often when we know the person we are speaking to very well, the need to use complete forms to be understood is less. For example, Sian could have used a fuller form and said 'You know I was hosting an amazing dinner, don't you?' with a question tag, but she's talking on the phone and doesn't have time. When I'm talking to my friend at home I can say 'Tea?' and he will understand that I am offering him a cup of tea. :)
Hi, I can understand english without any problem. However it's difficult when I try to say a complete sentence, I make a lot of mistakes. I feel disappoint about my knowledge, because I've been studying english for 4 years.
Hi there. Sometimes, learning a new language can be frustrating - however it's important to stay focused on the positives. If you can understand English without any problem - this is a major achievement - many people really struggle with comprehension. English is not an easy language - there are many complications and inconsistencies, but based on the language in your post, we can say that your production is good (only two minor errors: capital letter 'English' and adjective 'disappointed'). You have made great progress in the last four years - think about what you can do in the next four. Good luck from the BBC Learning English team. You can do it!

+bbclearningenglish, does that discourse marker ""mind u" mean " to remind you"? If not can you give us couple of examples I just can't get it right.
Hi, the discourse marker 'mind you' means: 'I've had an afterthought and it contrasts what I've just said.' Hi Sian I think something is wrong ' You know I was hosting an amazing dinner party last night?; Is there any meaning question mark?
Hi Lalenkawla Lalenkawla
