This was a great interview! Alyssa is definitely going places. I think she’s doing great on the team and it’s refreshing to hear that her teammates are so supportive of her. What Press said to her was awesome! So I know this is probably not going to happen because it seems like pretty much everyone on the team still hates her, but would it be possible to get Hope Solo on for an interview? I always wondered what her side of things looked like and why she made certain comments because from an outside perspective, she just looked super competitive, guarded, and emotional. And it seemed like a lot of it stemmed from her dad dying and being shunned by the entire team (except Carli) back in 2007. Then it seemed like she started to let her guard down in 2014/2015 and then she was fired and the team seemed to shun her again in 2016 (again, except for Carli) after her Sweden comment… it makes sense that she’d be bitter about that and have a hard time biting her tongue after that, especially because she naturally speaks her mind anyway. Plus, the media screwed her over with the domestic violence case and her husband’s DUI. I say that because the case was dismissed without any kind of settlement or anything- just purely because the same people that were pressing the charges refused to cooperate under oath and there wasn’t enough evidence to go forward. On top of that, she was the one who was concussed. And the DUI wasn’t her, it was her husband. So really, she was fired for her history of polarizing comments and two cases against her in which she’s still considered innocent of. That would make anyone upset. In the men’s sports world, it wouldn’t happen at all because they say even worse crap all of the time and no one bats an eye. Obviously, I don’t know though because I’m not her and I wasn’t there. But it would be interesting to actually hear from her about what happened, how her career looked from her perspective, what she learned, what she’s planning for her future career, etc.
I had wondered if there was a relationship between the goalkeeping position and basketball skills - Alyssa just confirmed it. The dark side of this is youth coaches thinking "Who is the tallest player on the field right now? That's my goalie today."
I’m so glad that my coach isn’t like that. This spring we had a new kid on our team and he was one of the only ones who likes to play goalie, and he was the shortest kid on our team. But he always begged to play goalie even though he already knew he was going to and he was the best goalie I’ve ever seen in our league.
great episode! also, oh god, i was at that NYC media day (assuming you're talking about the twitter HQ one in may 2019) and *so many* of the questions asked by the journalists were *so excruciating* // overhearing it all was super cringe, but at least it made me feel more justified in asking about chilled out things like music and meditation!
I wish Alyssa could send a scout for I9 sports this 8th. Look out for Alyanna's Birthday Debut as she is going to be rocking some of your gear Alyssa! Alongside with many awesome young stars striving to continue your Legacies with yalls' Natural beauty and aggressiveness in the Sport.
Incredible story Alyssa is an amazing goalkeeper I loved this episode
Exited for this episode. First Ali as last seasons final guest, then Ash and now uncle Naeher. I for one am here for it :-)
