  • Ramsgate International Hoverport at Pegwell Bay Kent Now and Then. Hoverlloyd operated a car and passenger ferry service from here using
SRN-4 Hovercraft to Calais until 1982. Using a combination of recent HD footage overlaid with old 8mm footage from about 1969 and sound effects to recreate the atmosphere this video shows the arrival and dparture of
SRN-4 Swift in about 1969 from similar locations in 2022.
The Terminal Buildings were demolished in 1992. Above the hoverport at Cliffsend the Replica Longship Hugin looks over Pegwell Bay as it has done since 1950. Gradually the remaining concrete apron, car parks and access road are being reclaimed by Nature.
Access to the area is via steps from Cliffsend carpark.

I travelled on the Hoverlloyd hovercraft from Ramsgate and the Seaspeed route from Dover a few times back in the 70's.
Quite liked it. Seating inside was like Economy aircraft seating but without seatbelts (and maybe without armrests?)! I remember the services were called flights with flight numbers and they issued airline style tickets.
