    I remember seeing something like this when I was little in shed beside my grandma's house... She had an old record player out there with probably close to 1000 records (they are all in terrible shape now, sadly) I bet this sort of device was pretty common until the shift to tape's and CD's were made. glad to see a company making this though!

    I've used this thing for months and I'm beyond pleased with it, if your on a budget you need to get this thing I use it in combination with the spin clean washer the combo of the two is great for on budget collectors that want deep cleans on their records

      MidlineTV, how do you use it with the Spin Clean? Curious. Thanks

    Hey Geek, I have one of these (full disclosure: they have demo used my video for promotion) and I love it. I really don't want to use it on 45's, so that is not a downside for me. I think it does almost as good a job as a pro machine and have had amazing sound quality improvements from using it. I find that if you turn the table very slowing and do 2 rotations, your record is completely dry and done. It may be the best 30 bucks I've ever spent. Great video. Great product. Take care...

    Great review. Agreed that this is a labour intensive solution, but the alternative is to spend $500 and above for an automated system, so it really can't be beat as far as bamg for the buck goes. One issue I want to point out is when you show yourself brushing the solution into the record you brush in the opposite direction of normal stylus travel. You should always rotate the record in the normal direction of travel so that the bristles of the brush are interacting with the record much as the stylus would. Otherwise great job, and I really love the content you guys are producing.

    I swear by this product, and it WORKS and works well. $500 vacuum machines are unnecessary!
    As has already been said, do lay the Vinyl Vac beside the spindle, it works much better that way. Do use a lazy susan, as well as a spray bottle rather than a squirt one. Also, baste with distilled water after the cleaner has been brushed in with a "paint pad," so that cleaner residue isn't left behind (there are other YT videos to illustrate this & also the setup). Then vacuum and enjoy!

  • @dixielandfarm
    @dixielandfarm 8 лет назад +1

    This is a good product for us with a normal budget and should be even better than a tank system. A painters pad makes a great brush, and I would recommend getting a second mat (dirty side is touching your mat, and when you flip your record you are now putting your clean side on the dirty mat - having another mat prevents this). While it is labor intensive, doing one or two at a time I think is the way to go, right before playing and it shouldn't be too much of a chore.

    • @VinylRewind
      @VinylRewind  8 лет назад

      totally true, this isn't for doing 100 at a go and I love the idea of having two mats

    I think I will try it out, seems good for the price. Only downside is cleaning 45's etc, but I have a lot of Ip"s,so I think its worth a go. Thanks for the demo Eric. Cheers. Rodger

    Totally agree with Matt Wiechert - great review on a tool to remove water from a LP...but no comment on how well the record played before and after and no comment on comparison with £400 vac machines.

    As soon as you put it on the record, I noticed the gap near the label. Glad you mentioned it. That seems like a huge design flaw. Other than that, I love the idea of this. Thanks for sharing!

    • @vinylvac
      @vinylvac 8 лет назад +2

      Hi Gregory, I believe the gap is dead wax in the video. The size of a label and amounts of dead wax on a record can vary. The Vinyl Vac is primarily designed for 33 LPs. The distance from the spindle hole to the intake opening is based on a standard 4" label. If the Vinyl Vac intake is not covering all the record grooves simply lift it off the the spindle and rest it beside the spindle. You then can then position it so the intake is completely align with all the record grooves.

    I'm sure you get this question all the time but is there a difference between turntables or is it all about the speakers at the end of the day. I really feel in 2021 that it's all about the speakers, but surely that can't be true.

    This looks like a lot of work , and if it isn't ideal for cleaning 45s / 10 inch lps , then it really wouldn't be something I could use . I'll just stick with the Spin Clean system , and though it is more pricey , it's not unreasonably expensive . In any event , this video was typically informative , and for that I thank you .

    • @VinylRewind
      @VinylRewind  8 лет назад +2

      just keep in mind the vinyl vac doesn't really "clean" records as much as it dries them if that makes sense. It's a better clean than just using a brush and fluid because it will suck up any loose dust and dirt.

  • @fortherecord1569
    @fortherecord1569 7 лет назад

    The real negative for me is the suction limiters. They will create stress on your vacuum. The odd record here and there is fine. But if you plan on cleaning your whole collection right away, you may find yourself with a broken vacuum. I recommend buying a cheap $40 portable wet/dry vacuum to use with this.

    Interesting, but imho, nothing beats the soap bath/wood glue/Gruvglide combo. I love buying scuffed up 77 cent LPs at Goodwill, and making them sound better than they did when they were new(yup, better, because even new albums are loaded with static, which this method virtually eliminates.)

    • @VinylRewind
      @VinylRewind  7 лет назад

      do you do that for all the records you buy? Seems time consuming and maybe not worth for a beat up record that is really common

    • @artamussumatra6286
      @artamussumatra6286 7 лет назад

      Vinyl Rewind Any used record can benefit greatly from this process. Brand new ones usually just need Gruvglide to remove static, and protect the stylus from wear. I feel it's well worth it for a few good reasons. 1) It delivers the best possible listening experience. 2) I can afford to buy more records( since getting a TT in 2011, I have seen prices for good condition used LPs go up an average of 400% in the local shops!). 3) Even if I already have mint copies of the albums, reconditioned ones make great sounding gifts/loaners for people I know, who are just getting into the hobby.
      The total time consumed, is approx. 1-2 hrs per record(s). But you can do several at a time, and you don't have to do the whole process all at once. You could bathe them one day, glue them another, and peel/Gruveglid them a day, or even a week or 2 later, if need be. The wood glue takes the most time, but it's usually less than a half hour to dry, if you use a good fan.

    • @VinylRewind
      @VinylRewind  7 лет назад

      Thanks for the tip on Gruvglide. I hadn't heard of it before, I'll give it a try. Do you also have an antistatic brush? I get what you're saying about doing records in batches, makes a lot of sense.

    • @artamussumatra6286
      @artamussumatra6286 7 лет назад

      Vinyl Rewind You are very welcome, always happy to share what knowledge I come across. :) Yea, Gruvglide is a great product - but remember, it is not actually a cleaner, it is made to eliminate static, and it adds a slick coating for the stylus to ride on. You may have heard of people playing wet records, it's the same basic principle - the stylus floats on a super thin layer of the water's surface, buffering it from any anomalies that could cause ticks, or pops, while also minimizing wear on it, and the record. But GG is a lot safer, and of course, doesn't dry out, it lasts a very long time. Btw, a simple dryer sheet can get rid of static on the cheap, but it does not apply the slick coating.
      If you do decide to go for the Gruvglide, be sure to follow the instructions. It really doesn't take as much of it to treat a side as you might think.
      I bought a couple of brushes early on, but I don't use them any more. Treating in batches, over a number of days does make things easier. The cool thing about the Tite Bond II wood glue, is that it retains a bit of elasticity, even after it sets up, so theres no worries about hard to remove brittle pieces sticking to the record's surface, even days after drying. Hope this info helps.

    An informative review. I may try one. At $30, it won't break the bank. I'm kind of reluctant to spend $700 for a RCM, but still deciding between an RCM or ultrasonic cleaner.

      I would avoid the ultrasonic one if you have a lot of 7" or 10 inch records as they aren't compatible

    I play the records when they're damp and they sound better. I just don't drown the records in liquid. Or you can just wait a while and the record will air dry. I find this product completely unnecessary, but to each his own if you must have dry records.

    What if I'm using an Electrolux vacuum cleaner with a bag inside? Will it hurt it to drain water off records?

    • @VinylRewind
      @VinylRewind  8 лет назад +1

      The manufacturer recommends bagless vacuums and more specifically wet/dry vacs. I used my vacuum with a bag but I wasn't too worried since I was only doing one record, it would take a lot of moisture to reach the bag

      As someone else said best to use a vac that can handle water. Shop wet vac would be better than regular home vac. One commenter said they once used their home vac for some sort of bathroom flood event and their vacuum shut down after about 5 minutes of use.
