"El Triste" ("The Sad One") is a song written by Mexican composer Roberto Cantoral. It was performed for the first time on March 15, 1970, at the "Latin Song Festival II" (predecessor of the OTI Festival) by the Mexican singer José José. -Wikipedia

I love how he had so much control over his voice and breathing that he would be able to transition from them high notes to lower notes without missing a beat or running outta breath like it's nothing! Much respect to one of Mexico's greatest Icon. Jose Jose RIP

The author is Roberto Cantoral and he wrote the song remembering his mother who had just died.

What a genuine reaction, Dereck! You're right. "El Triste" is a song about someone who passed away. In this case, the mother's songwriter, Roberto Cantoral, had died some months ago while he was on a trip to Europe.

If you noticed that the camera was panning to some random people cheering, those people were some of the greatest singers of that time and that video is from a contest called "Oti" festival that he end up not winning and in second place for politics in the music of that time...yes I know my history.
