    Ground units have their conveniences:
    1. When you forget to bring something and need to go back to grab the item. You don't need to deal with the "lift waiting" time.
    2. Like you mention in your video, when you have bulky items, it eliminates the concern for "can the item fit into the lift".
    3. When it comes to grocery shopping, if you drive and have many bags of grocery to bring from car to your unit. You will appreciate that you have chosen the ground floor.
    4. When you have children and they fell asleep when heading home during the drive and you don't wish to disturb their sleep; carrying them from your car to your unit is a blessing.
    BTW, do invest in those magnetic mosquito screen if you intend to open your windows. For sliding windows, you can mount the screen outside. If swing type windows, you will need to mount them inside.
    Congrats! You now own a "landed property" at a bargain price!

    Agreed, staying on the ground floor is so underrated!
    I'm in my late 20s and I've lived on the ground floor for pretty much my whole life, except for 5 years when my family moved to a 2nd floor HDB, then moved back down.
    Regarding privacy issues, honestly once you've lived in a ground floor unit for so long, you'd care less about passerbys. I keep my windows, both front and back doors open all the time when I'm home. Sure, sometimes people might peek in the front door, I just stare back at them. But most of the times, people just mind their own business. And tbh, I preferred hearing the "human traffic" as opposed to total quietness, bc it can feel lonely/scary at times.
    What I dislike about lower floors is the dusts! In front of my front door is an open space carpark and a road. That probably explains why. I'm not sure about other floors but yeah, dusts is an issue. Also, can probably be warmer than upper floors due to less wind.
    Pests-wise... I'm sure higher floors do have their fair share of cockroaches. I've never had any rats running into my house.
    What I love is the convenience: no need to wait for the lift (esp important when i'm running late), carrying things from the car is a BREEZE, the community cat dropping by my house to get food 😆
    Also, I stay in an older estate, so staying on the ground floor has some "kampung" feels hahaha.

    One thing to note on living at ground floor is main waste pipe chokage. If there is any chokage, water will backflow to unit. For kitchen area linking to living room, good to have some barrier there just in case waste water flood the kitchen and to living room

    I stay on the lower ground but for the next place that we move to we will still prefer to opt for higher floors (above 7th preferably). Mostly for better views/airflow, away from the proneness to more insects/pests, more privacy etc.

    I prefer to stay further away from amenities for privacy, peace and quiet. I live on the top floor btw, it’s my favourite spot, can’t be disturbed by anyone living above me dragging furniture in the silent hours. I’m also relatively protected from plumbing sound effect since I live on the top floor, i.e. my piping bothers other but no one can bother me :p
    My neighbours also keep pretty much to themselves which is a bonus since I hate socialising. I have lived in my flat for 30 years and till today I still don’t know the family name of my neighbours. Lol

    We live in landed property. Some creep climbed into a neighbour's backyard and stole underwear from the drying racks. We suspect he climbed into ours and several other homes as well. He was eventually caught due to CCTV footage, but it was terrifying to think about. Much as I enjoy the space, I will not be staying on the ground floor when I move out. Probably a low floor though, cos I love being close to the ground & greenery, and I hate waiting for lifts.

    • @GeraldOng
      @GeraldOng  2 года назад

      Haha in Singapore it's always about whether your neighbors will complain... If u BBQ inside and the oil hits your irritable neighbor, you'll get a warning... But there's those BBQ pits around where you can book to have a grill in peace but there's fees (unless you use it without booking!)
      And technically the outdoor areas belong to the govt, so as long as your neighbors don't complain... It's probably ok! But I'd say fencing wouldn't be necessary, and will likely get complained if it's big, obstructive etc...

    • @zhen86
      @zhen86 10 месяцев назад

      Depends on the year of the flats for fence. those build in 80s will have stairs and you can fence up the stairs as it belongs to you(baby fence). As for BBQ is a no. small hottub no. Some units has small hills or small grass land and people use it like its theirs. The governments usually will close one eye unless some one "feedback".
