The Walgreens light uses a reflector and lens to focus the UV-C. I'll bet the original UV light will output more power if you shield with foil to reflect the light back to one opening.

I picked one up at CVS but I couldnt get it to work with the batteries so wired in a usb plug to now it works thanks for info glad its a real UVC

Was surprised to see this work for me. As right now we do have a fungal parasite in our home and it actually works and I believe I paid four bucks for mine. Saw a woman with a comment Dollar store I'm going to be looking at my near Dollar tree to buy a few more. Was so impressed with the UVC light I have now bought one to do the rooms in my home

You mentioned we can clearly see which one is better. I can't! Better for what? For waving over an item the enclosed unit is better because you don't have to block off the sides and top. Was the open model designed to do this or is it really designed for something else? I think I will hunt down the other video to see if I can fill in the blanks.
I had a UV lamp installed in my HVAC setup earlier in the year. Not exactly sure how effective it is but it runs 24/7 "cleaning" the air.
It could be UV-C or an ozone generator.
I got mine at 99 cent only store for $5. Works great. Useful to sanitize my wife's utensils and DME (durrible medical equipment)

Not sure what type of UV light is used for checking PCB board solder fractures cracks, do you know? its UV-?
That thing can be pretty effective for killing the bad bugs but I worry about people not knowing how dangerous a light like can be. I need to pick a light wand like that up. I’ve been thinking about making a high voltage plasma discharge plate for disinfecting hands and such they are really effective too. Great video Paul, I really appreciate you testing this stuff so we know weather the lamps are worth buying. So happy you surpassed the 100k mark you have such an awesome channel my friend.

In the SoCal area, the 99 Cents stores have them for $1.99, with LOTS of them on the rack. Hard to believe that such a dangerous product is sold so freely. I picked up four of them.

Amazon is selling insane amount of junk lately. Even Aliexpress is getting better than Amazon, OR if it is the same junk at least the price will be way cheaper, sometimes even twice cheaper. I just bought one of these Safe & Healthy UVC light wands from Amazon a few days ago. Put in 4 freshly charged Eneloops, and nada. Didn't work. Sent the defective one back and ordered another. Just got that one in, put 4 fresh Eneloops into it, pushed the ON button, and again nada. That's 2 defective ones in a row. Looks like their quality control is nonexistent. I'm returning this one too and getting my money back.
You need to press and hold the on off(sometimes a couple of times) I bought and use 6 of these. The problem is most likely your inability to press and hold the button

I think that in general, people are getting rather cavalier with the use of UV-C, but I suppose it is to be expected, given how ubiquitous lasers with a dangerously high output power have become. The last time such products where marketed, was when radium was considered safe and beneficial.
UV-C is dangerous to skin and eyes, with exposure linked to skin cancer, not surprising given that it is so effective in killing bacteria viruses and moulds.
It is also destructive to some plastics and fabric, as anyone who has left such items exposed to the sun will know. No doubt, some will say it all about exposure time, and that is true, but it is easy to become complacent about the danger, particularly to the eyes and the risk of producing cataracts.
Received as a gift tried 4sets of new batteries , didn’t work also on off button stuck in one position , I consider this item a scam

Great video! Just wondering, have you tested this light with the UV-C test card over a period of time, like they do in the following test video with the Quantadose test cards? Bought 2 of these and neither worked right. First light didnt turn on at all. 2nd one wont stay on.

Hi Paul, I am a big fan and watching your videos I have learned a lot about electronics from you.. A word of caution, however, for UV-C to be effective the lamps need to be much more powerful.
The WHO say that these lamps are not even as effective as soap and water. It would cost many tens of thousands of dollars to purchase and and experts to run such systems...
dollar tree sells the same thing.
