You're right, but the problem is that I think the NBA scouting system is biased to players based on their biological age without any regard for their personality or learning style which is like so many other aspects of our authoritarian power structure. The "experts" in power think they know everything and make assumptions based on their own prior experience without regard for different ways of thinking or the possible development of anomalies that diverge from the norm that people are accustomed to. At the time, college athletes were considered the more seasoned picks over foreign and high school players. Logically, that's understandable but that doesn't take into account personal history or learning style. Iverson and Bryant to some people could be seen as the same player, shooting guards who jack up shots, until you talk to them and realize they came from opposing economic backgrounds (Iverson, poor; Bryant, rich) and while they both had to train and practice to improve their skill, I think it could be said that Iverson due to the violence and poverty surround his existence, getting to the league was like a sigh of relief given all the trauma he had been through whereas with Kobe getting to the league was more like an exciting moment of anticipation without any negative trauma added since he grew up in what some might consider a safer area (Europe and then suburban Philadelphia as opposed to Iverson growing up in Newport News, Virginia). I also think Kobe and Allen's dramatically different lifestyles growing up showed a window into just how broad the African-American experience is depending on geography and your family's economic standing.
Thanks for making this footage available in the wake of Kobe's death. He may have had his basketball career in Los Angeles, but I know that Philadelphians are proud that he's from their town .
That nigga claimed Italy as his home he learned their language before he learned English he only associated with philly cause his dad used to play for the sixers Allen Iverson showed more love to philly then he did and lower merion not Philadelphia
MrCocoMocoLoco2 Allen Iverson was the better option at the time , what would you do pick the best player out of college or the best player out of high school ?
I like the fact that when he said that when he sets his mind to wanting to do and becoming what he wants to do that you can achieve at and once you achieve that you can start on the next goal and finish that and keep going he was truly intelligent a great player.
I hear so many negative things about his parents. The hug his Dad gave him set the record straight for me. That embrace was tight even when Kobe was trying to leave his dad was still holding onto him. I know his Daddy loved him very much.
Seeing guys like him who would rather drown in the realm of criminality makes me think what was the difference in his case. So suddenly famous, advertised and interviewed in his teens, so easily could have gone corrupted and spoilt. Instead, he wanted to become an idol, which he managed, but he has also become an inspiration. Rare. Outstanding. Magnificent. Bravo Kobe, you will be forever remembered
This man was mature even before the NBA. Just watch more of his younger year interviews and you can tell he approached the NBA with a levelheaded mindset and mature attitude. He wasn't some prideful rash impulsive young knucklehead who thought he could have his way as soon as he came into the league. This man was special from Day 1 and that's why he's the Legend and one of the greatest of all time. Rest in Heaven Kobe and Gigi #mambaforever
They would never ever be a next kobe Bryant he will go down as one of the greatest basketball player in this lifetime and it will remain that way for ever no matter who comes after him they will never take his place 💜💛💜💛💜💛 #kobeforever #R.i.plegden

Always got to bring MJ into it, he wasn't even his favorite player growing up, his dad was his favorite player first and then it would Jalen Rose, he just wasn't afraid to confront Jordan, and ask him questions on playing basketball, to become better than Jordan, somebody's always got to bring Jordan up, you're just jealous Kobe became greater, Kobe said I don't want to be like Mike I'm going to be better than Mike, don't be jealous

He mentions VILLANOVA as one of the final colleges on his list. He won one of his HS biggest games on Villanova's court. I wonder if they recruited him hard enough?

When he was 3 he use to shoot baskets with magic... Case closed... He worked for his place but he was selected by the brotherhood long before his NBA days...
He was lucky that he was so tall. That makes it super easy to get into the nba as long as u practice and train. Then to make it easier for him to make the nba, his dad was a former nba player. Then to make it even easier for him to make it into the nba he was born rich. Your welcome guys. Free knowledge.
I love Kobe but I hate the fact that his 600 million dollar fortune will end up in the hands of non blacks. Thank God Lebron James fortune will go to his black wife.
Kobe is unbelievable. At 17 years old he had a great passion and desire to learn? Crazy. He was truly destined for greatness.

Didn't know Kobe wore a cowboys jersey, he's been a Philly fan from what I've known. Learning something new jellybean
@Life of Jesse His father's nickname
@Life of Jesse oh I forgot...Kobe's middle name is Bean, so some people call him jellybean too
it’s an Emmit Smith jersey because in that ESPN video of him giving a speech in class he said that’s one of the athletes he looked up too

Many people who grew up in the 90s turned into Cowboys fans because of their dynasty in the 90s
17 year old Kobe: I'm a huge Laker fan.

What Brotherhood?
I have to agree. He was a all about that brotherhood. And he made many “sacrifices,” besides just training hard to be where he ended up.
LMAO...You live in FANTASY LAND

Jesus christ. This is why racism is still alive. And it’s not your money!
Pathetic statement. Are his surviving daughters not part black? Not that it even matters. Truly, that way of thinking is backwards and irrelevant.
Excuse me lady love has no color and wherever his money went to isn't any of your business period
@lendra2010 all blacks don't agree with her comments as well
@lendra2010 bet u it wouldn't be a issue if it was a black woman leaving Money to a non black man.
