Gettysburg is my personal "mecca". I haven't made my pilgrimage in many years and it saddens me. I'm a North Carolinian with roots that run deep into the nc soil and am decended from 8 confederate soldiers that served under under A.P. Hill; but that hallowed ground in Southern Pennsylvania gives me a strange and uncanny feeling of familiarity. A familiarity that feels deeper than just being familiar with the grounds of Gettysburg as a tourist. Ever since my first visit in the latter part of the 1980s as a 7 year old boy I have felt a strange feeling of sorrow but comfort. My dad will tell ya about how he thought I'd get bored within 30 minutes and wanna leave 😆.....i read every monument I could spot, lined up my shot with every artillery piece I could climb (elevator screws still functioned then😆). Long story short, I am eternally grateful for the work and passion you guys put into this. Much love and respect from Raleigh, NC!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks Carol for expanding on the American Civil War soldier's non-American (USA) or often covered foreign (Irish, German) lineage. Something that is often over looked in American Civil War history and so relevant and important in today's history and social climate.
being from Indiana I love to visit this area where the 27th conducted their ill fated charge... unbelievable the number of casualties in such a small distance of area. Thanks for the coverage guys.. love it!
I am very lucky to have a friend in Littlestown and so on my visits from UK have enjoyed the chance to wander over the Battlefield . anyone who has never been thoroughly recommend going to visitors centre and booking a tour as an introduction. If you can hire a bike and tour the area
Spangler's Spring named after George Spangler my 2nd great grandmother's cousin also their cousin is Edmund Spangler who was employed at Ford's Theatre at the time of President Abraham Lincoln's murder on April 14, 1865. He and seven others were charged in conspiring to assassinate Lincoln and three other high level government officials. Edmund Spangler was the only one found not guilty of the conspiracy charge. Even so, he was found guilty of helping Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth, escape and sentenced to six years of hard labor.
Maybe its possible to put a little chart in the video so we from europe can see were the fighting takes place on the battlefield. The big fights i know but the smaller sites not
I'm coming back soon from Ohio for my 15th visit! I need some help trying to understand in some detail the look of the landscape of the Devils Den/Wheatfield area in July 1863... Garry.... Im l👀king at you.
Was there for 3 days. Left Friday. Shelby county ohio. At the hotel I seen 2 cars with ohio plates. One from Lake erie and another from the logan county area.
Every child in America should watch this entire series of history.
As a South African, I'm incredibly proud of my compatriot George Chase. Very interesting!
