A super interesting high quality night video. And a very interesting target species and fishery. The lobster really showed up well at night with your lighting.
Ohhhh yeah dood, rad vid! Lobster fishing is my fav and there's never enough videos to watch. Would love to see more if you like doing it too. First trip and lands a fatty, well done brother!
Oh man,,,, that is agonizing.. lol Hey Be careful out there in the dark... Love the vids. Congrats on the first ever keeper lobster... woohoo. if you are into it the upper part of the lobster is great to cook down and use in Lobster bisque or other fish soups and stews. also great chum.
Great video, I was a diver for years my best two were a 9 pounder and a 11 pounder. The 9 pounder was good the 11 pounder was grainy but it was 44” from tip of tail to end of antenna. Antenna 1/2 the length of the lobster. Any way great channel I really enjoy your videos.
When I was a film student in the 70s we used to go up to the Palisades area and there were lobster traps all over in that area. I was into other things so I never gave it a try. I was just out in the garage getting minor things done to my crab snaring gear. Duck season opens on the 24th but we didn't get a refuge reservation so that is out for a while. Can't wait to bring in that first keeper on a snare!!!!!!
@@DieHardFishing At this time the regs say it will open on the 7th so we will be at our secret spot on the 9th and 10th. I'm going to make a few new snares. Don't need them but I need to keep busy!! Gene
Looks like a good night. Reminds me of a crab snaring day on the jetty where we caught over a dozen crabs about a credit card thickness short of keeper.
Hi. Lobster season is right around the corner. How exciting. Could you please tell me where you were in relation to the jetty. Also how deep was the water, line length? Planning on going out there soon.
Can you please be more specific where you do your fishing videos? So CA is vague and can be Anywhere like Santa Barbara, San Diego, Los Angeles (Long Beach), etc.
Nice! Were you at Ventura? I tried to catch some lobsters a week after opening day off a dock, but no luck. People had fished the area out! I had Spiny Lobster at Key West, Florida, and the meat from those lobsters are sweeter and denser than their New England cousins up north!
Awesome video! I live close to SD bay, have a cheap yak & never went hooping! Hmmm 🤔 seeing that & your first time out, may wanna give it a try! What do I gotta lose?🤷🏻♂️ ... my life I guess!?!?😂
nice vid Diehard, males have less meat in the tail, more in the legs, body, antennule segments. tastes the same as female though. 22:48 when you said crab season w/out thinking, that was hilarious. good job on your 6, if you want to see how to get a limit, check out my most recent vid, was able to get out there last weekend and catch some lobsters!
Just a note how to measure them correctly... Start at the top of the head, place the gauge in the head first and slide it into the groove between the horns and than measure like normal. with that said if you come in from the front there is a thin membrane there and the gauge will catch that making the lobster appear legal when in fact it's short! Almost cost me a ticket one night a Game warden showed me as we thought is was the correct size when in fact it was short by 1/8" He was cool about it and was very nice He said just return it and all was good!
@@VincaniTV Not that I know of but not very effective. You really need to pull them nets straight up to avoid dumping your bugs, Best bet is to find a pier adjacent too a rock jetty or small boat or kayak. Don't know where your at but in So Cal some fishing boats will run lobster excursions at night check with your landings.
@@bobfish3176 that's awesome! I will look those up. Maybe I can even rent a small boat or kayak to go out there. I saw a lot of people in Kings Harbor catching some.
My dad told me about your channel and I've been watching your vids with my son. Thanks for the great vids! Can I ask if the lobster catches are in the sf bay area? Santa Cruz?
@@lucamoore6331 Agreed!!! Had both & IMO the meat in the spinys just have a better flavor!!! More sweeter/rich fuller taste!!! Maybe biased opinion! Sorry Mainers!🤷🏻♂️
Brrrrroooooooooo, I was diving at Anacapa Island and I saw the biggest spiny lobster ever! (Before you get too excited it was in the reserve so no hunting of any kind) but it was a huge (aprox. ) 8" carapace !!!!! I would be scared to grab him if he was not on the reserve....
Yes sir you are correct. Females have flaps underneath 8:47. Us men usually don't have flaps underneath unless you got drunk and was in Bangkok, Thailand. Got there with no flaps and came home with flaps. Hey Adam, just curious did you pay $15 to launch your kayak out of the launch docks or was it free? I know this place but never brought my kayak here. Any info is appreciated. Love your vids and I've subscribed along with the bell. Btw, my wife things you're hot.
Just a suggestion this it is what I use for night time fishing a couple car 50 or 55 watt headlight bulbs. Do not get them wet they will blow out. Just hook that to a12v battery and it will give you more light than you can imagine. That's how I do my night fishing. You can also use drill batteries and stuff like that they just will not give you that long run time. But remember you can add and offf and on switch and only use it when I need it.
Enjoyed it and learned a little something , something . Seeing your lack of space in the kayak...I would second guess my self and tie a string/rope to the gauge , just to prevent the chance of dropping it over the side
You need to mount a dive light light on a pole as high as your go pro on your yak, besides using your headlamp..be safe out there ! A good light is tne Kayalu Water Torch 360° Kayak Light from Amazon, or go to a dive shop 👍
Btw, stay tuned guys. Next vid is LIT!!!!!
As in better lighting???
I like your enthusiasm and your honest fishing keep it up and you will become well known on RUclips
Catch & cook lobster??
just subbed man, you had me at the 37" ling
Also in Soquel?

Glad you enjoyed it, filming at night is a learning curve for sure!
Love waking up to some new vids!
These spiny lobsters are my favorite to eat. I've been catching and eating these since I was 4 with my pops.
So good! I'm fully addicted
That’s awesome!
Spiny's are sweeter to me but miss the bonus claws.
You are a lucky dude, Adam! That was good night of 🦞 lobstering!
When die hard says next video gonna be lit. I litterly cant wait!
What a guy.Keeping lobsters great again
Dude that was an awesome video brother. Congrats on a nice catch of bugs
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another awesome video, Adam. And yes, they do have teeth. A lobster can easily snap a pencil in half. Watch your fingers, my friend!
Best video out there thank you my friend I'll see you out there Redondo Beach
At least you got one keeper.
Great catch on your first lobster hooping.

How do you see the buoys you put out..? Do you have them on your GPS..?
Totally opposite from our east coast lobster fishing, educational and thanks 👍. Eat hearty!
I'm getting hungry. GARLIC BUTTER SAUCE!🦞
do they recommend you keep them in the water to keep them fresh (..drag them in a net bag..)? especially if you are fishing for hours...
Glad to hear you got a giant legal, hey man do you know where you can find cheap pedal kayaks that fit 2 people? Thanks man.
how long do you leave the hoop nets for? do you drop them the day before and come back the next night?

have you tried just going down with a light and catching them by hand? or its too deep
So cal is a large area of what town were you at. I did that in the channel Islands breakwater You get two major crawls a night.

the ones that just miss are called "clickers" they call them that because it clicks over when measuring! where about did you go?
where are you in the BA??? I used to line in Alameda CA....thanks

Piers are your best option. But you will see many people illegally fishing off jetties with a bunch of treble hooks.
