Great video! I really appreciate how y'all pulled one of the plugs and showed the difference between the engine sounding "normal" vs. missing. A lot of the old guard/experienced gearheads know what to listen and feel for, that new gearheads don't. Possible other video idea, if you could play audio clips of various engine/drivetrain conditions and kinda explain what sound you're looking for and what it means.
One of the things I like to do is use a temp scan gun to identify which cylinder isn’t contributing. But on cast iron you have to do it before it’s heat soaked, on headers it seems to be easier to identify. Even after it’s hot.
@@AutoRestoMod taught that one to my son on his FE. Most cylinders had gotten up to 250 ish and one of them hadn’t joined the party and was about 150.ish.
AFAIK only Ford OHV V8 engine to use 14mm gasketed spark plugs were the '54 239 & 256(Mercury) Y blocks. With introduction of 272 & 292 for '55, switched to 18mm tapered seat plugs. Used in all year FE, and small blocks till around '76 when plugs changed to 14mm tapered seat. Those were already used in Cleveland & 429 CJ/SCJ plus Boss 302 & 429. OK I didn't mention Boss 351, essentially Hi-Po Clevelands. Nothing really unique about those. Aftermarket aluminum generally use ¾" reach gasketed 14mm plugs. The aftermarket irons probably use 14mm ½" reach, never owned a set.
Are you guys gonna do a dedicated tuning video? Would love to see y'all tackle timing, carburetor adjustment, rocker nut adjustment, etc. I've gotten to the point where my engine starts and it runs well enough to test drive, but it idles high, chatters slightly, and definitely isn't tuned ideally; watching somebody who knows Ford small block engines work with theirs would be a Godsend for me. Cheers!
Between 4:00 and 4:09 you said the engine has problems. "At idle it felt like it had a missing dead cylinder?" then at the end of the video you said it was a good engine. So I do not understand why you said it had a problem at idle?
Great video guys. Cam - what about the GM HEI distributors don't you like, and what do you prefer? if it makes a difference, I'm running a 1970 302 with points right now. Have had the truck for about 20 years, believe engine is stock with the exception of a Edelbrock Performer 289 intake and carb.
+++++ on compression diagnosis. I've been cranking engines without spark to determine possible compression problems since days of buying wholesale gems from dealers back lots. One morning found nothing promising at my favorite Pontiac dealer, left went back to shop. Couple hours later my partner shows up with a Dodge Omni, I passed on. It's going thut, thut, thut. I say "Bubba, that thing has a dead hole"(cylinder). Just needs a wire or plug was his reply. I bet him neither would fix it & pulled out compression gauge. Zero compression, I won. He didn't know I'd already given it the crank test. Let's say he learned something that day.
Hey guys, I have a ‘68 mustang coupe. I’ve been looking into getting the suspension worked on. It’s just my daily, it only has the inline 6 in it. What would you recommend for me to do to make it handle and drive as smooth as possible? I’ve already looked into doing the Shelby drop
Diagnostics are very important. This newbie appreciates stuff like this. Show good and bad vacuum responses, plugs, coolant. Thank you.
You are correct

Legend!
Great info - looking forward to the tuning video (always a chance to learn something new 😉).
You and me both!
I don't think anybody should be left out when going for digital assets.
Making the right decision when investing can be a tough task.
Yes! I used to trade some stocks but I couldn't understand how it works kept on getting bad stocks
Trading on your own is very risky l've lost alot trading for myself.
@@ryanhildreth2038 Cryptocurrency is an incredibly speculative and volatile buy. That's why I work with Mr Lucas Naved.
@Patrick Homer That won't bother you if you trade with a professional like Mr Lucas Naved.

We are working on that...
My favorite channel for classic mustang info
Ours too!
Appreciate these videos, helped me restore my 71 RS. THANK YOU
Glad to help
Knew there was a reason I woke up at 3am. Great tips
For me it is an unbearable urge to pee....

Lime green flip- flops are comfy too. Just dont wear them around other guys.
Good video.
That's the cool thing about my friends, once they ridicule you for like four or five weeks, they lose interest.
Also at first start have someone check if you get a puff of smoke from the tailpipe
Good point!
Excellent episode. Super useful information.
Glad it was helpful!
That's the difference between a good mechanic and a guy like me who just thinks he is! Knowledge is DIAGNOSTIC gold!
Couldn't agree more!
I really could do with the next video! I have thrown loads of money at my coupe and have many sads still!
Coming soon!
jeff you need to promise you'll burn the tires off one of your cars at 100,000 subscribers!! love your tech info
If we can keep one of them running long enough...
Some great information. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
@2:43 I hate when my dipstick smells like ass.
Bwhahahaaa!
When you showed the plug did it have a gasket? I thought ford spark plugs used tapered seats?
Normal reason is engine has aftermarket heads.
Not sure what is going on there. We'll get deeper into that on the tuning video.

Whew, glad you didn't slam that hood.
LOL
Thumb up!

I tip when looking a car, is it has a engine
If you are into that sort of thing...

Mostly it is the bulk. You can't fit a bigger style air cleaner. Other systems are neater looking (more "normal" on a Ford.
❤❤❤
Cam better be careful walking in the woods in those shoes because somebody would mistake him for Sasquatch
He's too red.
Lubricitive ?...Maybe "slickery"....... O team slangery.
Ooooo slickery!

Teaching is fun...especially when you make money.
When metal gets cold it shrinks.
Yes. Other things expand.
@@AutoRestoMod the only thing I can think of that expands when exposed to cold is water when it freezes.

Good daily set up: QA1 single adjustable shocks, rebuild the front end, 1 inch front sway bar. Disc brakes. (optional>> roller spring perches
Is it only me when I check a car I lay down and check under it before I look inside.
That is a different video. This was dealing more with engine stuff.
Rich? Nah, just needs a blast on the freeway to "blow the carbon out" lol.
That may indeed happen...accept he was smart and didn't put the tags on it...LOL
