I had T-Mobile 5G here in Brooklyn, NY, and found the service extremely inconsistent. Throughput varied throughout the day - and even from hour to hour. The price was good but I didn't consider the service at all comparable to the fiber cable service that I was used to. Luckily, here in NY, the competition among providers is becoming fierce - and I will be able to pit one competitor against another based on price in perpetuity. So I can't ever see myself going back to T-Mobile unless their service were to become as consistent as a fiber connection.

I think one thing to consider is whether or not you want to rely on one single company for your mobile Internet and your home Internet. I remember when I did the free trial like a year ago T-Mobile was doing some maintenance or something in my area which caused both my cell service and Internet to go out for a couple of days. My spectrum Internet was fine until the network was up again but that experience showed to me it’s better to have services from different companies because you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket.

I had Comcast internet and ATT cell service. When I retired I switched to T Mobile since they had great plans for overseas travel. In Denver, I have great internet and cell service with them. Of course, I love the oversea data and texting. I pay a total for Sr. Magenta Max and internet of 95/month. My ATT bill was more than that with less services and my internet was almost as much. And, customer service online and phone is great.

In markets where Fiber is available and affordable, hands down I suggest fiber over 5G for a list of reasons that are geeked out more than this needs 😂. Overall though, all markets need this option available to keep cost and competition in check. Honestly, if FTTH wasn't available at the price I have in my area I would have gone with Verizon's Internet plan and ditched Spectrum anyways. Anyone who games and streams will see the heavy bandwidth hit from 5G when they start to have more than a handful of users streaming content.
IP addressing with the Live TV services can be tricky and something HULU should address. It is nothing the customers are doing wrong, but if HULU is going to use the public registered IP address for locations, then they are pulling the location of the service provider (if IP addressing is being used over manual address entries). In less populated areas this may put an individual in a different logical city, or in some cases even a different state depending on which cell tower the subscriber is pulling their IP address from.

I have T-Mobile Internet, it uses the same bands as do their cell phones which have priority over the modems so your speed can vary quite a bit depending on the time of day. I've seen my D/L speed go down by 2/3s during peak phone usage hours versus non-peak. At least I don't have to deal with Comcast anymore so I'm okay with that.

I have it as a back up to spectrum. The only issue I've had is a periodic error message that pops up om the lcd screen on the modem telling me to reboot it. Oddly when this error message pops up it does not impact the connection until I reboot it. I really don't have a spot where I can put it by a window, but I put it on my desk yesterday in my room/office and had no problems until that same reboot message popped up this morning. Outside of that, its been flawless, but should I just leave it when that message pops up because there's also been times when it's popped up but gone off on its own. Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

Speed in the morning is about 170mbps and less than 10 by 1pm. It wont even run Speedtest in the afternoon. This is with direct sight to the tower. T-Mobile said congestion in my area is very high. I guess this service only works well in less densely populated areas. I used ethernet tethering with my phone and got 3x the speed as the gateway. I'm returning the equipment tomorrow. Does anyone know what frequency the T-Mobile unit operates on? (it might be on the unit's label, Ghz or Mhz). T-Mobile finished installing the 5G upgrades in my area this past summer so I'm thinking of trying it next year and might install a cell signal amplifier in my home to better the reception of both my cell phone and the T-Mobile 5G unit. @@areleous1 I believe he's asking asking about the band frequencies from the towers to the gateway, not the standard Wifi bands, and that depends on what cell channels T-Mobile is using in a given area. I'll list them all below as given to me by the T-Mobile internet app on my Pixel 6a.
      Band
The Frequency Range being use to connect to the T-Mobile Cellular Network
      4G LTE
Extended range bands are either Band 12 (700 MHz), or Band 71 (600 MHz). Greater maximum speed bands are either Band 2 (1900 MHz), or Band 5 (850 MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), or Band 66 (extension of Band 4).
      5G
Extended range band is Band N71 (600 Mhz), while the greater maximum speed band is Band N41(2.5 GHz)
to note in my area I'm connected to LTE band B66 and 5G Band N41, and I'm also listed in T-Mobile's "Ultra Capacity Range" for my address on one of the highest spots in my town with the T-Mobile tower on the same side as me a few miles down the load with a heavy pine tree covered area, I have my Gateway pointed out a window facing the tower with the curtains parted sitting at an angle on a high table rest up against the window for best cell metrics.(wife hates it, but I told her to live with it, or pay Breezeline cable a kidney each month for better service).
I'm seeing speeds of 400 Mbps - 600 Mbps + down (rare burst well over 800 Mbps) / 50 Mbps - 150 Mbps + ups usually with sub 24 ms idle ping times, with very low jitter according to OOKLA Speed Test, Test My Speed, and Netflix's Fast being the most consistent testing methods I've tried both wired directly to the Gateway with my laptops, via my TP-Link Deco app, or directly connected to the 5GHz WiFi band of the Sagemcom F@st T-Mobile Gateway with my Google Pixel 6a phone in the same room as the gateway just a few feet away from it. The test Google does using M-Labs as their backend is ALWAYS much slower.

Wouldn’t be worth it for me, if I can’t even stream, my Hulu live TV SMH and I am a T-Mobile customer, so I guess I’ll stay with my Xfinity Internet

All I know is that I get exactly ZERO signal from T Mobile in my area. Useless.

The minute the tower you are connected to geta congested they will throttle you down first. So while the idiots down the street are posting live TikTok videos, you'll be struggling to hold a Zoom meeting. That's why I dropped them, and I live 80 yards from the tower. Stick with landline services.

you really should mention in heavy rain or snow the speed drops to zero. this is a flawed review

I've had T-Mobile since Feb 2023, and while my area of the country here in the rural southeast does not get a lot of snow, we can get a lot of rain, and I've not had any issues with speeds dropping because of rain, but more on very high wind days I've seen a bit of a drop but nothing that was not usable. I also have the Sagemcom F@st gateway with my gateway pointed out a clear window in the front of my house towards the tower in my area just a few miles down the road, so placement of the gateway, and which Gateway T-Mobile gives you can make a difference along with keeping them nice, and cool. Also my average speeds have been 400 Mbps - 600 Mbps + (some rare burst over 800 Mbps) down by 50 Mbps - 150 Mbps + up with sub 24 ms idle ping times

Nice to know. I've got an OTA television antenna in my attic and have not had a problem with TV reception during rainy periods, nor with cell reception. For anyone that's concerned, sometimes the rainwater film that covers your house can 'ground-out' a radio frequency signal. Its somewhat area and transmission-dependent, but its not unusual.

@@crosslink1493 From that it sounds like he should be ground out his house to fix the interference issues, or using an external quad SMB Antenna for cell signal, and a roof antenna for OTA TV, and the rest the T-Mobile rep was telling him is because just up till recently they did not have a 5G Gateway with easy to access SMB connectors, nor offered antennas, and they don't want people taking the Gateways apart to access them. Simple as that, but it can be be done, and if you're lucky T-Mobile will get you the new gateway with external antenna connectors, but their external antenna is junk from all the testing I've seen of it, so you need a proper outdoor/attic SMB antenna. Also there are 3rd party Gateways you can get with powerful onboard antennas, along with external ports, which can do things like band locking, but they are expensive, and not very easy to set up for the average person. Just search Nater Tater on the tubes for more info on that.
