That Audi 90 IMSA car is a monster. After entering the Trans-Am series in 1988 with the 200 Quattro and absolutely owning the rest of the field that year, Trans-Am officials imposed restrictions to penalize Audi’s AWD and other innovations. (“Hey, let’s change the rules if we can’t compete with them!”). Audi continued to dominate despite the restrictions until Trans-Am officials banned AWD outright. So, Audi joined IMSA, which had less restrictions. That 90 Quattro made 720 hp from 2.1 liters. Unfortunately, the reliability went down, and Audi had many DNFs in 1990. However, when nothing broke or crashed, they won. That they were still contenders for the championship despite the many DNFs is a testament to how dominant this car was. Those revs from that 5-cylinder bring goosebumps when you consider the history of that car.
I wish more automakers made mainstream wagons and shooting brakes instead of SUV’s…. They have more character and probably more economical and practical
A performance wagon isn't more practical than a performance SUV. The extra ride height and interior space that an SUV provides is a huge benefit. I love wagons, but the reason they don't sell well is because SUVs make more sense to the masses if you're living with them every day.
