I was born in Fontanelle and lived in Creston growing up. It is hard to believe more people were not killed. People in Greenfield are not wealthy so it is hard to say how they will recover. Pay on a mortgage for a house that is gone! Foundations gone so you cannot even rebuild on it. I have a cousin Becky who I hope was not in the damaged area cause I have been retired in NM and have not kept in touch. I just feel so sorry for all those in Greenfield.

I'm in Oklahoma and saw your video in Barnsdall. You came upon a family who were on their porch and the ramp leading to the house was damaged and they couldn't get a quadriplegic family member out. You gathered up several people and got them to safety. I was taken aback by your kindness and your way of making them feel less helpless. I could see how relieved they were to know they were going towards safety. You were so respectful of their privacy by not showing their faces only if they wanted you too. You did a wonderful job. Now days the norm is a reporter who sticks a mic. in peoples faces when they are in shock and disbelief of what they just survived. They were glad to see you!

I get that the news is depressing, but if he hadn't come to get her she might not have realized she need to take cover until it was on her. I hope she'll get an app and be alert if there is another storm in the future.
Watching the hubby get emotional made me wonder how could one ever thank someone for running out into a tornado and pulling their wife and baby to safety. No words, money, gifts or favors could ever come close. I'm sure there are many other stories, perhaps even among strangers where people stepped up and helped. I know it's a little late now, but I wish everyone, especially people with babies and small children like that woman, would pay closer attention to watches and warnings (especially on high-risk days). We should never assume that it can't happen to us because it obviously happens to lots of people every year, all over the country. Whenever I hear about the potential for severe weather I make sure my phone, backup battery, headlamp and flashlight are charged, I have my identification and medications with me, and that I have decent shoes on. It also wouldn't hurt to have a helmet, bottled water, and some other supplies. We're lucky to have as much advanced warning as we do now, so we should take advantage of it. In 2005, i was up in my bedroom oblivious, with a new baby, while my other children played outside. I had no internet, no weather radio, i was totally disconnected. A tornado went over my ridge and i only knew something was going on because suddenly the power was out and there were an unusual ammount of cars going by my home. Reason was the town a mile away got hit real bad by the Tornado and the roads were blocked!
I was so upset. We had no basement and the thought if what i would have done if it had come my way haunted me.
The next day i went to radio shack and bought a weather radio. A year later we moved to a house with a basement. That basement gives me such peace of mind in storms!
Thanks for these videos. I love to see people being good humans, and this video showcases the best of humanity at the worst of times❤❤

Prayers 🙏🏻 For all. It is difficult and overwhelming but know you will get through it. Take it one day at a time. My little town was hit twice, parent’s neighborhood was hit in 1991. We seen so many blessings of people coming together and helping, kindness, community compassion. Down the road from where my parent’s neighborhood was hit a mobile home park was hit. My husband and brother in law went to it with pipe wrenches to shut off gas lines. They helped dig a guy out with a 2x4 through him. They cleared a path to the ambulance, he survived! My own father didn’t want to go to my sister’s home but he finally gave in. A shard of glass about the size of a basketball, shaped like a triangle went through the center of his recliner where he would have been sitting from the picture window. We definitely have learned to take tornadoes seriously. The tornado in 1991 the Salvation Army treated my parents neighborhood very well with help, kindly people. Be kind to yourself and accept, the help you can get, but be careful of people that want to steal or take advantage of your situation. Just know you’re in a lot of peoples prayers.

5 deaths. 35 injured. EF4 with 185mph winds. At age 11, I went through my first tornado on a farm near where these tornadoes started. My 3 siblings and I were home alone. My youngest sibling was just an infant. This was 1984 when it was more acceptable to leave your kids home alone for a period of time. We were lucky. Our house had some minor damage but our farm took significant damage. And my dad watched it helplessly from a few miles away. I can still remember his yelling, practically screaming for us when he arrived. He couldn’t see our house because of all the trees around our farm so when he came up on an entire roof blocking the gravel road he thought it was our house. Scarred me for life

@@JonathanPetramala thank you for putting out their stories. It’s important to get this exposure to help them rebuild. It’s beyond sad to see so many of my fellow Iowans going through this. I’ve been in two other tornadoes since I was that little kid. I also have taken care of a storm chaser who was struck by lightning several years ago while he and his son were chasing here in Western Iowa. The hospital ER I worked at actually was in a tornado warning and we had a tornado/funnel above us at the time he was struck by lightning across town. We had our sliding doors sucked off their tracks, our ambulance doors wouldn’t open due to the suction and we literally had the mothership over the top of us. I watched it circulating when I came into work and had to speed to get to work only for it to create major havoc. The man survived. He had a lot of medical issues from it but I heard from him about 6 months later and he was making improvements. Keep telling the stories.

its hard to see anything like this... but when you live just a few feet. from a house that no longer exists it makes you wonder what you should/could do/have done. what's worse is not knowing. this storm system moved into wisconsin and we lost contact with an entire town. no information on what happened to it, and still no idea how bad the damage is. . we also have no idea what happened to another town that we are only now finding out also got hit by a tornado. this was not a good storm for us in the midwest. we always say that tornados are more destructive than a hurricane and i think this is just a good example of that

@JonathanPetramala it was. A friend of mine never even knew what was going on. He was sitting watching TV and suddenly he got news reports of tornado warnings. He said he never even knew what was going on. His house started shaking, and the poll she'd started rattling and the sound of twisting metal. He said it felt like it all happened within 15 minutes of the reports. He looked out, and his poll sheds roof was gone, and the barn was gone. He never had a chance to make it to the basement
