I’ve golfed quite a bit in my 38 years, mainly when I was growing up. I’d golf with my dad and his side of the family and even played golf in high school. I NEVER knew they moved holes around. My mind is literally BLOWN! 🤯
They are called hole cutters, the things that actually cut hole and hold dirt, sometimes you call em cups if you using different sizes Then the rod that takes the cup out is just a cup remover idk any fancy name It's really not as fun as you'd imagine doing this at 5-6am to beat the retirees who are out by 6:30 and start whatever they want
Hey Billy Casper Golf, I hope you're listening!! My local course is terrible at changing hole locations, and you guys need to get on them. Sylvan Glen Muni in Troy, MI, they might change the hole twice a week, if we're lucky, and they put these horrible plastic ring liners that go up to the top of the surface of the green. You end up getting a major "anthill" going up to every single hole, and the turf gets trashed.
Budget is everything. If the budget is low, they can only afford a crappy hole cutter and a member of staff who isn’t dedicated to cutting holes. If they suggested increasing membership so there could be a permenant hole cutting person on course, I can’t imagine you being too happy. Until the day you work on a golf course, you won’t understand how hard the job is and how much harder golfers make it. Most won’t even fix divots or rake bunkers, which would free up more time for us to cut holes if all that was right.
@@diarmuid858 I worked at a golf course for 3 years, so I'm not in the dark here. The problem you and many others have when it comes to "budget" is often a shortsighted vision, rather than a long term outlook. Besides playability and enjoyment issues with not changing holes (i.e. the anthill effect, and players who play the course regularly without a change in pin positions), not changing holes on a daily or semi-daily basis destroys those areas of the greens that end up with 1000 rounds and 20,000 footsteps in an area right around the hole. So whatever minimal cost there is to a hole cutter or paying a guy to cut the holes a couple more times a week is far outweighed by the larger long-term cost of green damage, which pisses off patrons, which hits you on the bottom line with fewer rounds. As far as the plastic ring liner around the hole, it's not only a playability annoyance, it's disallowed by the ROG, as the cup liner has to be at least 1" below the surface of the green, as well as technically makes the hole smaller than regulation. Maybe those things aren't important to you, but if you're a USGA rated club, the course needs to be set up in a conforming matter for valid scores posted for handicapping. If I wanted to play goofy golf I'll go play putt putt.
@@AluminumxD holes are only moved once a day (unless there's some damage to an existing cup. I move 18 cups a day, except for Tuesdays and Fridays, then it's 32 (chipping green , and our putting green... it's back breaking hahaha, but i love to do it.
@@donjantzen My golf course is so busy that we have to change them every 2 hours. And even so turf is very exhausted by players'shoes. Im not in the US, u guys probably have less players at day
This is so satisfying.

Interesting! I NEVER knew that they changed holes on a golf course! Listening to this video, though, it makes sense. Thanks for the upload, USGA!

Who’s the tool removing the ball with putter?
That’s what I’m thinking

Good for all golf courses.
This is exactly how it’s to be done. This is how I was instructed.

Be great if my course didn't put the dam hole within inches of the corner of the green. Every bloody green on the course!
It can’t be within a flag pole distance to the collar. that’s hilarious if they do that 🤣
well who the hell knew???
Now I will purposely do all the things it told me not to do
Why dont golf courses ever spray paint the tops white its a simple step that gives a completed look
Takes too much time. Especially if a hole position is changed several times a day
We do it every single day.
