This is... EXACTLY what i was hoping to see with this when I first saw these videos hit my algorithm. I am beyond curious what a side scrolling game would look like.. something like Super Mario Bros or a simple jumping over the object type game.

Yep that was just a quick try. I didn’t like the trace of the ball going sideways (a limitation of the big square pixels on flipdots) so games that have diagonals of various angles are not really ideal for flipdots. Games such as snake, Tetris or space invaders are perfect though. More coming soon, then I’m out of videos and I’ll have to dig the project out for more.

i think its possible to use this flipdot as a display for a pc/laptop such as you could be in a game for example and use some filter (reshade for games for example) and then the filter creates a black and white (just hard white and hard black so no shading) and then screengrab the game/mask and transfer the thingy on to the flipdot display and also cap the game on the pc/laptop to a steady fps for the flipdot to be stable to prevent any overwhelming of the flipdot and any mess and delay im no expert of any of this but it just suddenly came to the top of my mind when watching your flipdot display videos hope its something

I think it was pretty cheap compared to today’s price. They became quite rare so prices have inflated. But still a bunch of money for something nobody needs.

Snake on flipdots is pretty cool! I'm guessing that the Bricks game isn't finished though, as I don't see any bricks.

a sokoban would probably fit nicely, though having the player "pixel" being the same color as the block "pixels" may be disorienting@@Fredovsky

Actually it’s just a window behind me. The glowing effect is a byproduct of a very dirty lens 😅
