Something confuses me, don't those students realise that when applying for graduate and entry role jobs out of uni, the hiring company will do a background check and likely miss out on the role when their criminal history flags, and the employer simply dismisses the application. Anything can loose you a job opportunity these days, let alone something like this. It could be a something as small as a misdemeanour that costs them a job. This will soon be forgotten and it won't matter why they protested, it'll be nothing but a nice story to tell people as you ignore your debt in a job you didn't want to have to accept.

Palestine people has the right to live, but when they entrust their lives to a terrorist group to play with, that is their choosing! Making universities battle grounds for people who made bad choices is not the right way! Students should be proactive and reasonable and not controlled by outside elements, who have ulterior motives. I think about my grandfather who served in WW2 and was in the battle of the bulge. I think about what he gave up to go live in hell on earth. He saw friends blown to pieces. Took a round himself for his men. All that just for a generation to come up and throw it all away. I'm not happy about this thought, but I've been saying for this generation, they almost need a world war to know just how fragile what they take for granted is. On our present course, get ready to say goodbye to everything we all have enjoyed all these years. Everyone who lives in America is "privileged". That privilege is Freedom. Freedom to go anywhere, do most anything, and freedom to say and express yourself, so as long as you respect your fellow man. That has been our ongoing journey and as long as new generations come into the world that need to learn about our differences, that journey will never end. We CANNOT go back to where we were, so stop living there. We must strive to keep getting better. That is NOT accomplished by rioting and protesting. It is accomplished by individual commitment to doing good.
Oh, please. That's not fair. I had a grandfather that died in the coal mines of Indiana. Was he more of a real man, because he died? Your grandfather had to fight because of intolerant men who tell other people how to live. And now it's your turn, old man. You really need everyone to believe what you do. Where, "MEN ARE MEN." Yeah, well, we're not going back, they were not REAL MEN, they were scared teenagers that had to die because of old angry men who were leaders that never had to pull up a gun, or die face down in the mud. My family is paid in full in America's wars, from the Revolution to the Big one, fought Pinkertons in mining camps, and not a single one of them ever taught me that in order to be a real man, I had to do "X" or whatever, and certainly not have to suffer in war because of the egos of men and their stuffed shirts. You're just a YEE_HAW AMERICA WARMONGER who thinks that if someone saw an episode of RuPaul's Drag Race, they'd catch the gay.
Well my father served in WW2 as a medic. He would be super proud of his grandchildren protesting for freedoms and humanity! My adult children are on the right side of history growing up without the privilege you speak of. I have children/family in the military who feel the same way. Free Palestine 🇵🇸
Good to see words of wisdom. We need that more these days.
My conclusion is this. Im 52. I will ALWAYS stand by Israel. October 7th made my resolve IRON strong. We are promised to be hated by the world, so none of this matters. May God have mercy on your souls. If you don't know Jesus, call on him before it's too late. Shalom
@@toddmailen3674 nobody at these protests takes issue with the Jewish religion and broader cultural tradition. The only thing that is being protested against is the economic support of the Israel government and military as it carelessly murders countless people-most being women and children younger than even ourselves-who were never a part of October 7th to begin with nor were a part of the radical terrorist movement responsible for that horrendous event once in their lives. Be it the direct economic support from our government or the indirect economic support from these universities investment portfolios heavily intertwined with corporations that prop up Israel’s military-that is what is being protested.
If you do want to bring religion into this, then I would just ask: what would Jesus think of the situation? We each would answer this in a different way. For me though, I strongly believe he’d be in support of peacefully protesting against mass murder-that goes for both Hamas and its allies and the Israel military and anyone categorically in support of the murder of innocent Palestinians. Even more so, I feel that he would be disgusted at your thought that my generation almost needs to be drafted into a world war to know any better. I’m sorry, but that is just crazy talk. Dangerous talk even. It makes me feel that you perhaps need to “find Jesus” yourself.
And yes, America is a very, very privileged country. This is mainly in the materialistic sense. In many other ways Americans are not privileged and other countries feel bad for us. Americans are slaves to corporations. There time, money, and vote-their freedom, the same freedom your grandfather’s friends valiantly fought for-has been stolen by them. Heck, the entire US government’s support of Israel itself has always been rooted in the economic advantages it brings them in the Middle East. Saying us Americans have a certain set of materialistic freedoms is not a good argument against those brave protesters standing up for other, arguably more meaningful, freedoms that Americans uniquely lack with their current government. Be it the people’s right to have corporations pay their fair share of taxes or not irreversibly pollute our environment; or the people’s right to deny having massive sums of tax money NOT be given to a foreign power that is actively using said dollars to carry out genocide. Tax money that was gained through not just the labor itself that has been done collectively by our bodies, but also our own continued faith in this government. That’s what is being protested.
For these students, it goes deeper than this even. They are protesting the tuition dollars that they are giving these universities, trying to prevent said capital from also aiding in the bloodshed overseas. The guilt is immense for these people, even though they are not the ones making any of these decisions. Americans find themselves constantly caught in ethical dilemmas involving their own capital being abused by corporations that control our government. It’s what drives some citizens to protest in whatever way they are able. It’s the reason why you see this happening all across the country now.
Put yourself in their shoes and it might help you understand what’s going on and why young people act the way they do. If you can’t sleep at night because you are painfully aware of the suffering that your money is causing across the globe (thanks social media), then perhaps staying up all night on your college’s quad at least in solidarity with the victims might make you feel better at the very least. And maybe-just maybe-if enough like minded people join you, then perhaps there is a chance it may lead to productive conversations that betters the situation-either in your own community or perhaps even in Israel/Palestine. In a lot of these protests, the goal is to (1) send a clear and loud message of (a) support for the victims and (b) condemnation to the military carrying out this mass violence that cannot be ignored or covered up as it always is in the media when it’s about something against the Israel government, and (2) to hopefully persuade their school to alter their investment portfolio in a way that contributes less of the money they/their families have paid to the said mass violence. The pushing, the shoving, the masks-all of it is only there because protests in America have been so suppressed recently and these defense measures are needed to keep one’s self and fellow protestors safe in the face of the militarized powers they are ultimately protesting against. None of it used to be like this-not to nearly this degree at least from what I learned in my history classes growing up (I am young though and do not have best perspective, so please correct me if I am wrong). The protesters are loud and disruptive. And it IS an issue for these schools and their ability to normally function. It annoying to be on your way home from work and some dumb college students have formed a line in the road, blocking traffic, chanting their protest slogan. But the only reason for their volume is because (1) the message they have has been heavily suppressed (for decades in this case) and (2) it is seen as being an important message by many people-they would not be so loud and disruptive if only a few agreed with them. It is meant to disrupt. If their message does not disrupt then it has failed. Because without any sort of disruption, there is no possibility for change. Nothing about what these protesters are doing is intrinsically violent in nature. In fact, their entire purpose is in direct opposition to violence itself.
Now you understand what Israel has to face
I think Hamas uses violence, how are student non-violent protesters the same as violent terrorists? You stupid?
