Like Hunter S Thompson rewriting The Great Gatsby word for word, I wanted to know what it felt like to produce an amazing music video.
FLAVOR FOLEY provided a complete SVP file so my involvement with the actual tuning was fairly minimal. It was designed for Eleanor Forte and tuned her in a very unnatural way so there were some changes I had to make to accommodate Noa, plus a little extra flair. I was originally just playing around with this as a way to learn to how to tune Noa and then it came out sounding better than I expected so I just ran with it.
For those somehow unfamiliar with the original song, this video is a recreation of the original video by ippo.tsk and it was a lot more complicated to assemble than I expected. Getting the 6 fps wiggle on all of the graphics to work consistently while allowing smooth scaling and motion was especially a thing I had to figure out. I noticed a lot of extra subtle details in the original video when remaking it, such as the very low visibility ripples and how the amount of rain increases slightly every time they hit the chorus. Learned a few new techniques from this that I hope to apply to future projects. Just copying the video was about 30 hours of work so I can only imagine what it took to create the original from scratch.
Also my friend OhMandaz really knocked it out the park making the Noa portraits in KidPix
I learned also while making this that Remilia of 7mora, the team who designed the character for Noa Hex and others, died last year. I don't know if Remilia was involved in the design for Noa but it is still sad news to learn all the same.
Made in Synthesizer V Pro and FL Studio 21.
melodious,, I've been on a weathergirl high lately, and this is really feeding into it,, NOA sounds almost human in this song, but there's still that sort of unnatural humming in the back that's remincient of the pitter of rain -- the pv also is a really nice recreation, and the sorta mspaint-ish feel of NOA matches the spotty feel of rain & the song, delicious ! going on loop 4 now :)
Thanks! I originally did this as a tuning exercise for Noa since FLAVOR FOLEY provided a more or less complete project file, but I liked how it sounded once I added the harmonies so I pulled the trigger and produced a full video. All of the Noa graphics were produced by my friend OhMandaz in KidPix.
