I grew up with a John Deere H. Owned one until June when we downsized and moved from Michigan to Georgia. My sister still has one. Between her and I we have 5 antique tractors, 39 Farmall H, 44 John Deere H, 49 Allis Chalmers B, 50 John Deere A and a 50 Farmall Cub. Love the farm related videos.
my grandfather had one of these he ran a 30 cow dairy and a John Deere h was the only tractor he had from 1946 until 1958 I can't imagine doing all the work he did with one of these little guys
Those weights really helped make tim win the pull off but they slowed him down in the racing that is a very cool video i really enjoy your videos and learning about those old tractors!!!!!!!!!
Couple of nice tractors and you did a nice job getting them running well. No muffler and that thing is LOUD! :) Could help but notice the buffalo in the background. Don't see those every day. Great videos thanks for posting.
"It will run all day on a can of lighter fluid" was how my Father would describe the Model 'H.' A 'B' model, "all day on 5 gallons," an 'A' "you might as well fill it if you are going to run all day, but it will pull the ass out of a tornado." Dad had an 'H' when I was pre-Kindergarten age. I am reminded of it every time I shave. At 4 years old, I was climbing on the rear tire, slipped, fell and cracked my chin on the axle. I remember only bits of that. The slip, pain that made my eyes water. Dad was at work, and Mom did not drive at that time. She was almost in panic when her parents pulled in the driveway for a surprise visit. I didn't realize I was bleeding, but I remember the look on their faces when they seen me from the car. I remember a few moments of being held with a wet cloth on my chin during the ride to the nearest hospital. A few moments of being on the table with those damn bright lights glaring down from overhead. Fighting the doctor because he insisted on sticking me with that damn needle and getting pinned to the table. Back then, they didn't think numbing was needed for a few stitches. If they said "this won't hurt" you knew they were lying. They damn well knew that it did. I can't recall any follow up visits to the doctor or when the stitches got removed. Many years later, I overheard my Mother telling someone about that evening, and heard something that I don't remember, and I never heard about again. I guess they forgot about my feet when they first pinned me to the table. When they bundled me up and brought me out, the doctor was briefly seen, and his doctor coat had a four year old sized dirty foot print right over the junk locker...
hi Wes just wondered when the new tractors are arriving looking forward to seeing videos of that keep up the good work love your clips all the best for the new year
What a good video you two playing and bonding making memories my son and I were down on the National Sea Shore and I got stuck in the sand in my 2003 Dodge 3500 4X4 he pulled me out with his 2010 Jeep Wrangler I haven’t heard the end of it but when it came to pulling a 37,000 pound fire truck out I won which he didn’t want to talk about but good memories all around
You guys are having too much fun again! It's always fun to get the old iron and and play. The old difference between men and boys is the size of there toys. Haha
the tipping over problem ocours when the pulling is above the center of the whells like when you pull from the 3 point all the way up vs when you pull with the draw barwhich is below the center of the drive wheel
I remember when I was a kid we had neighbors who would come cut our hay using a JD B with a no 9 mower. The sickle would operate slow enough that you could hear it pop on each stroke of the mower.
YOUR KILLING ME WITH THESE JOHN DEERE TWO CYLINDER VIDEOS! I had a 1964 70 gas and sold it. MAN DO I REGRET THAT SALE! It was all original with 3 point and power steering. It came off a dairy farm in Illinois and was never used hard. Was used to cultivate corn run an auger and pull hay wagons. Central Indiana
Hey Wes are you still wanting to have a spring plow day if so I can get some guys together from around Lynchburg Ohio here. That would be a good weekend road trip for the family
my grandpa bought a new h in about 1942. with 2 row cultivators and a 1 -16 mounted plow! when i first seen a h i laughed at it and my grandpa said it sure beat farming with horses! he traded in a heart parr and 2 mules and i forget how much money! he probably farmed about 15-20 acres with it
hi Wes I'm sure machine manufacturer are whatching your channel !!! just got a class mag. called harvest times it's offering a reversable hydraulic drive for the pickup and intake rollers on there new model balers . sure I can remember you talking about wanting one on your old new Holland baler and a new knotter that looks nothing like any I have ever seen . you mite be able to see it on there web site. do you still think it a good idea as it's Extra cost ....keep up excellent vids never miss one...Dave in uk
I freely admit to having zero experience with John Deere, or, the hand operated clutch. I do have experience with a narrow front end tractor. I agree with Wes here. Chances of flipping, if you're paying attention, are slim. We had an old narrow front end Massey Harris. Hitch (draw bar) stuck out beyond the rear wheels and would dig into the ground long before you had to fear going over. On top of that, when those front wheels start to lift, you feel it. Your first instinct is to disengage the clutch and bring the front back down.
Just out of curiosity, is there any reason why you took the starter off the Maine H? BTW, the rated RPM is 1400, the foot pedal was an override that took it to 1800 RPM for transport. It also sounds so strange hearing the other H cranking so slow because mine has a 12 volt electrical system on it. Anyway, sounds like both are running good, and we'll go on from there. Chris.
Love the video it's good to see that you and Tim get along and work so good together. Wes your a good father and you can see it in your kids. And Tim I'm sorry so many idiots are obsessed with your crack
I want to get myself a John Deere H to mess around with one of these days. Looks like some fun competition was had. I wonder how different the outcome would be if you switched tractors.
It is Tim's lack of experience with driving the 2 wheel drive tractor. Not so much the tractor its self. Otherwise Ebay or tractorhouse.com to buy an H. They go for around 3k-5k each.
That is true. Although he still had the advantage cause of the extra weight on the Maine H. Wes is only 2 hours from me so I might be interested in it if he sells it.
What's more fun than a good old tractor pull off? A father and son pull off! Keep up the bad habit called farming. Here's to many more good times on the farm.
sorry wes. h specs is 1400 rated rpm according to tractor data. looking at the size of the belt pulley. the pulleys were sized according to tractor rpm so you have the same ft per minute for running belt equipment. looked like fin with that pull off. pulling the old front porch off moms house with the 520. i was using the boom pole top hook which is about 6ft tall from lift pins. front end was in the air but was stable
LOL remember the 1150 v8 Massy and I don't remember the model # on the john deere we destroyed a town road one night many years ago trying to prove a point they were pretty even first of the clutch won. Thought we were going to get our asses thrown in jail over that

Very nice Wes. Glad you and Tim had fun before getting back to work.
looked like two kids and their toys having fun. enjoying your videos.

Wes, you guys did a great job on those two tractors. Congrats. FYI, you need to deal with that battery cable hanging down off the frame. ha ha
Enjoy all your Videos keep them coming.
Those weights really helped make tim win the pull off but they slowed him down in the racing that is a very cool video i really enjoy your videos and learning about those old tractors!!!!!!!!!
you work hard and play hard I love it. that's what life's all about. having a little fun

There's fast speed, slow speed, and Tim speed. Great video, like the sounds of these old popping Johnnies
Great father son memories!
hi Wes just wondered when the new tractors are arriving looking forward to seeing videos of that keep up the good work love your clips all the best for the new year
around june for the tractors.
What a great way to spend your day, father and son having fun
it is nice to see you and tim having fun and bringing the old tractors to life but I noticed you got a buffalo in the field
cool video love watching your channel
I've never seen Tim smile so much
You guys are having too much fun again! It's always fun to get the old iron and and play. The old difference between men and boys is the size of there toys. Haha
You don't need a triangle on that tractor. Tim's Lilly white ass is pretty hi-vis in the sun. Cracks me up haha.
Baaaaaaaaaaad grin
Big man on a little tractor. (Best Chris Farley impression)
Great video guys.
making father an son memories.
the tipping over problem ocours when the pulling is above the center of the whells like when you pull from the 3 point all the way up vs when you pull with the draw barwhich is below the center of the drive wheel
looks like fun .. both tractors are evenly matched
I remember when I was a kid we had neighbors who would come cut our hay using a JD B with a no 9 mower. The sickle would operate slow enough that you could hear it pop on each stroke of the mower.
One of the best videos you have ever made...
awesome video keep up the good work
the two of them running there for a bit sounded like a four cylinder Austin truck pulling out hahaha
Love the videos keep it up
Tim is a lucky man to have a father like you!
if i were tim i would never forget this time in my life,,,would love to have done this with my dad
For the H, engine speed with the hand throttle is 1400 RPM. The foot pedal boosts it to 1800 rpm for transport.
bring back memories rocks picking with a two-wheel trailer
What a great relationship you have with your son fantastic your like best friends
Good jod.
bring back
I love that sound.
Running real good - sounds good too

According to tractor data, 1400 RPM is the rated speed. Considering the 5 inch stroke on a 2 bearing crankshaft that would be plenty fast.
Hey Wes, funny little Tractors you restored there.
But when did the big new Johnnys Arrive??
Lol @ the slow race...that was a good one..
Youth and Skill will Never Overcome Age and Treachery!!!!!! ;)
Hey Wes are you still wanting to have a spring plow day if so I can get some guys together from around Lynchburg Ohio here. That would be a good weekend road trip for the family

The main design requirement for the H was that it was to replace a team of horses.
You should get a old ground driven side delivery hay rake and pull it with these old tractors just for fun
Tim is definitely a big boy. Looks like he could bench press that lil tractor.
That is fun. You got more snow then we do in Mass. in fact where I am we have none. Yet in 2014 - 15 we had over 100" of snow.
dejanira2 this video is probably a week old.

Tell us about the buffalo!!! Will you have time to tinker with the old cars this winter, like the model A?
Just when I thought I've seen it all! Nice video anyhow!
a buffalo? just the one?? do u have any other strange animals?? its a long time since any animals were in a video
I freely admit to having zero experience with John Deere, or, the hand operated clutch.

did pretty good old man I'm wondering if Tim's would pick up a little power if the exhaust was on it
you guys look like monsters on them little things . lol too funny
pissing my pants lol
Have heard of farm boys having pulling competitions and I always thought it was something naughty but this proved me wrong,
Drawbar on 2 cyl JD where designed to force frontend down on heavy pull
Just out of curiosity, is there any reason why you took the starter off the Maine H? BTW, the rated RPM is 1400, the foot pedal was an override that took it to 1800 RPM for transport. that was fun for you and I in joyed to. I had no idea that a pop in Johny run that slow. Rpm s in the 100 or slower
Great video Wes

I have one! If you want to fully restore it. And if my uncle wants to sell it.
I guess I spoke too soon. I just bought another garden tractor project so now I'm out of the market. But thanks for the offer anyway!
MichaelTJD60 no problem. Im uploading a video soon if you want to see what it looks like.
I'm amazed how slow that will run - does the missing exhaust help in that respect at all?
Flywheel, and perhaps the fact that the engine is tighter from the last rebuild.
Wes since when did you have a buffalo?
Cool Wes you have a bison , I a john deere mc when is was younger .
Who ever has their butt crack hanging out the most wins!!! Plus the pavement is wet, you'll never get one of those tractors to tip back
what is the modle of the tractor.you probable said it or it was right in front of me.
Ha Wes, what do you use the gray building for? I see it in you videos but don't think I ever heard you talk about it.
Now you need a Model D, Model G, and a Model R! lol
nice father and son.wonder who rode those all day back in the day.
What a dazzling display of horse power.
did anyone else see the buffalo/bison? that guy is awesome!
Matthew D'Amicantonio i saw it. thats what i came to the comments for.
Love seeing those engine run at low rpm but curious about oil flow. Are they pressure fed or splash for the cylinder walls? Great video!
Both. Bottom end is splash, top end and governor are forced oil feed.
Tell us about the Bison,
What's more fun than a good old tractor pull off? A father and son pull off! Keep up the bad habit called farming. Here's to many more good times on the farm.
That was awesome and cooooooooooooooooooool
You have a buffalo?
Buffalo @ 9:17.
Tonka tractors, LOL!!! I was kinda hoping for a romp up the "hill".
What a beautiful tractor, make me a gift please)))
Why are there two fuel caps on these tractors? Are they multifuel engines?
yes
Started on gas and ran on "tractor fuel". Very small gas tank. Switch on dash to switch between. Was to switch to gas before shutting off
great stuff! Would love to hear why you keep buffalo!
Mattias Ortendahl haven't you heard "give me a home where the buffalo Rome"?
+onelonleyfarmer you ought to get Tim some overalls. They have built in suspenders.
Family Fun on the Funny Farm, Yee Ha
you guys could tear up a bowling ball, way to much fun
I like old tractors
Do you have any small 3pt corn planters
you should work on the A after the 4010
sorry wes. h specs is 1400 rated rpm according to tractor data. looking at the size of the belt pulley. the pulleys were sized according to tractor rpm so you have the same ft per minute for running belt equipment.
looked like fin with that pull off.
pulling the old front porch off moms house with the 520. i was using the boom pole top hook which is about 6ft tall from lift pins. front end was in the air but was stable
tractorboy31 Even at that, the belt pulley on an H runs half crankshaft speed off the end of the camshaft
were is the h's plow did you sell it?
You get the steel seat ass itch after 5 or 6 hours!
When will the new tractors be arriving ?👍🚜
Maybe in June
i wondered if you would do the tug of war............you got to do it with the new tractors Wes, When you get them
Put that exhaust pipe on and I bet Tim could win almost every time. Loose quiet a bit of torque when you run stuff with open headers or short exhaust
was that a buffalo
Love the slow race. Be hard to find a tachometer that would go that slow.
There are digital hand held tachometers that dont care about speed.
When do the new Jd from England get to the farm
Maybe June
i think tim let wes win lol thanks for the video guys
LOL remember the 1150 v8 Massy and I don't remember the model # on the john deere we destroyed a town road one night many years ago trying to prove a point they were pretty even first of the clutch won. Thought we were going to get our asses thrown in jail over that
Tim pull your damn pants up
Maine H race Wes has more experience with this tractors, Tim is more used to modern tractors 😂😛
