    nothing like the haunting call of the fish eagle, when you're sitting at the dam side and it's pretty quiet and all of a sudden , behind you, the fish eagle lets 'rip'

    As a child I had the privilege to watch these birds up to 50 or more on our farm in the Free State and then some genius started poisoning the termites with Harakiri. That was the end of the Blue Cranes within 5 years.

    Mahai campsite, many years ago. Sound of the Piet my vrou. Son-in-law pipes up "Ah, there's the skiet-my-nou!". Me: "I thought it was the Piet-my-vrou?" After a couple of seconds, I say "I tell you what, let's call it the Skiet-my-vrou!". Wife overheard. Not happy. We're divorced now!

    more than 20 yrs ago, I was hiding in a reed bed in the cape peninsula (WC) when I heard a hauntingly beautiful birdsong. It was a complex melody with low and high notes and numerous embellishments (no, it sounded nothing like "Jan Fredrik - thanks, I know what a Cape Robin Chat sounds like...)
    I came here looking for this mysterious bird...
    I got some of the most raucous birds of South Africa - thanks for narrowing down the search.

      Patrick, check out the song of the Lesser Swamp Warbler. They have a beautiful song and they live in reeds. I'll try and find one of my videos for you to listen to.

      I could do a video on that but these 10 are probably up there with the loudest, with the Hadeda Ibis probably topping that list.

    Hi Lynette, would you be okay if I used these sound effects in a game I'm working on?

    • @lynetterudman
      @lynetterudman  2 года назад +1

      Tell me more about the game. If it is a game that will be sold commercially then you may NOT use any of my calls. I have too many people that want to make money out of my hard work. All my work has a copyright attached to it. The people that use my calls in phone apps pay me for their use.

      @@lynetterudman i guess the proper question would have been to ask if these sounds were royalty free. I have a local game jam (its like a competition to make a game as quickly as possible if you dont know) that I'm participating in so was looking around for south african bird sounds that I could use. I dont think I could offer you money for this just given the level I'm working at (non-professional) but thank you for replying and all the best.

      @lynetterudman  3 месяца назад

      I'll have to do a Part 2 in the series and add the Ring-necked Dove because it is such a common call all over SA.

    Is that right that the hadeda make that noise because they are afraid of heights ?

    • @lynetterudman
      @lynetterudman  4 года назад +3

      Not true at all. It is a joke that is doing the rounds. They are just loud birds and can fly very well. It's got nothing to do with them being scared of heights!
