whoever designed these guys just knocked it out of the park. i’m not very interested in AOS from a gaming standpoint but this army… might be changing my mind
Thanks for this one Henry. I really enjoy this format; a look into a personal project coupled with some solid info and mini tutorials... Keep 'em coming!
1:10 I have a recommendation for a dark Purple that airbrushes beautifully and covers like crazy as well: Molotow (refill) Purple Violet. You can even use it as a primer if you want.
They look fantastic mate! I too fall into the trap of often taking far too long to paint my armies and end up not playing 😅 but this was a great reminder to try better to come up with a strategy to get some stuff painted and on the tabletop!
For an alternative to the dark purple, you might try Tenebrous Grey from the AK 3rd Generation paint range. A really nice smokey purple-black. In general, I have found the 3rd Generation range to be great. Good pigmentation, airbrushes nicely, and has a huge range of colors.
I am a new player and been painting quite a few of mini's over the last few weeks (started small with a warrior starter edition, but then got myself a dominion box and a few extra's (the lord commander and a chariot for stormcast, and for the Kruleboyz some extra archers and Skumdrekk). Its been a blast so far to paint them, I am a bit envious though when I see your nicely painted boyz. Mine have to survive with a MUCH more basic paintjob :p I especially like the rusty/corroded effect done on the shields and armor parts!
I come for the painting tips irrespective of what exactly is being painted. Great tutorials as always. I was excited to get hold of some Kruleboyz but they probably will never get painted as I’m rather underwhelmed with their aesthetic. The short version of OSL was fantastic.
L9ve your ultra drab olive skin tones and what to try it on a differant line of orcs. Assuming I didn't what to use the green cloth, what colours might work instead? I'm thinking a dark purple?
Awesome work, I think you are your own harshest critic which is to be expected when it’s a personal project, they must look awesome when deploying them on the tabletop though. I also hope you guys are working on some Dragon painting tutorials lol, I’m seriously excited for them!
Amazing video! Have you thought about kicking it up a notch and adding an OSL element, these figures are perfect since they are so dark already. I think a bright glow from something like their weapon or maybe the swamp, or some imaginary fire light source would be really cool.
Loved this video, I'm creating a scheme myself atm. And I'm finding it hard to speed paint just like you said or I'll never get it done and on the table. I always look at models and think I can push it further. I love your army and the Gnashtooth is epic love it he will stand out nicely. I'd love to see you guys do more army showcases and small videos on armour or skin and such just as you did with this army. A few videos and a showcase at the end. Cheers - G
Thanks G. It’s always a balance right. It’s nice having this one in the bank to play some games with though, makes taking my time on another more viable.
I just found this video. This is EXACTLY the plan that I have for my kruleboyz. Paint them fast, learn the game, have fun. So I have time for the Idoneth army that I want to paint extremely well. This will take years. I am nowhere near as good as you are, and my models look not as nicely, but I had the exact fear you had of a too dark and boring army. And I had the exact same idea for the great gnashtoof(?) Going from dark brown to an orange to a very light brown. This is such a wave of coincidences. The only way I deviate quite a bit is the skin of my orks is/will be a more saturated green and the shields are red. I wanted to give them my super special snowflake special me character, but the red of the boxart was so striking and wonderful I could not go past it. Love your videos. Where can I watch your battle reports? 😋 Consider the brass corrosion stolen. I am stealing it from you! Ha!
Hi Henry, was wondering if I could pester you for a couple recipes if you remember or have them written down? What was your recipe for the slightly different skin for the grots? I like the idea of keeping it a bit different from the orruks I'd also love to know how you did the bowstrings for the boltboyz, I really like that dingy brown/grey colour Planning on dipping my toe into warcry with some Kruleboyz, and yours are by far my favourite that I've seen, really nasty and horrible looking. Definitely going to take inspiration, thanks for the video!
Hey. Really sorry but I can't remember. Bowstrings I'm almost certain would have just been a mix together whatever was on the pallette from the other colours. For the grots i think I've just added a further highlight colour to them, prob mixed in ivory to lightest green used on the orruks. Sorry can't be more helpful!
Really cool looking army, they really do look like they're dirty dank swamp dwellers. I'd love to see more personal projects like this. I'm thinking of trying out oils for washing, are there any colours you'd recommend as must haves?
@@cultofpaint Excellent, thank you! I have signed up to your Patreon as I feel like I learn a lot from you guys. Looking forward to checking out all the stuff on there :)
Yeah, just to keep consistent. Although if they were all as armoured as them then I’d probably change it up and airbrush the armour and brush paint the skin
Okay, now it's getting interesting. I've been very much against Age of Sigmar. What I loved about Fantasy was the contrast between regiment soldiers, and characters. Some models you'd paint fast in bulk, and some you'd spend days on, depending on their importance. Then Age of Sigmar came around and turned every model into some sort of demi-god. If they're all special, none of them are special. But these Orcs (I bloody refuse to call them Orruks; not to mention the names for the elven factions that are just impossible to remember) look really neat. Much less 'cartooney' compared to the old ones.
Hey I tried the pale skin technique using the exact same paints (with the airbrush) and when I applied the oil wash it stripped parts of the model back to the black undercoat. Any idea why?
It's possible the paint wasn't dry before the oils were applied. Oils and thinners won't react with acrylic paints. Problems occur when people scrub at it with a qtip etc to remove, or the acrylic paint isn't fully dry.
@@cultofpaint ah that could have been it, i did a batch of 4 when I tried it so the first model was airbrushed probably an hour before. Would have thought that would have been enough, the rest of the model was fine, it only peeled the airbrushed ammo paints.

I keep repeating myself but this is by far the best painting channel on RUclips.

Followed it every step of the way and had a blast watching, great army great minis and great paintjobs!
Thanks Jonathan
Great channel and I love the paint scheme for your boyz.
Thanks Jeremy!
Loved following along. More personal projects!
Ok!
Love the look of them. Just started to paint my boyz.
Nice. Very rewarding to paint.

Tag us when you get them done, always keen to see more Kruleboyz!

Wicked paint jobs. Would love to see your take on the rest of the army when it releases!
That’s gonna be an expensive preorder weekend!
This video is great. I would love to see more of your armies and Andy's.
Guess we better get painting even more then!
Awesome paint job. Could you do a little follow up on how you painted the glassy viales on the shaman?
Will do!
Amazing army, I'm starting a T28 army and you have made loads of vids that will come very useful.
Look forward to seeing lots of T28 stuff

How did you do the bottles of green magic stuff? They seem to sparkle as they revolve
I knew I should have done them! I’ll pop up a how to very soon.
@@cultofpaint that would be brilliant thanks 🙏
I’ll be copying the green slime recipe for mine
Would love that recipe to use on my DG as well!

What is your recipe for pale orc skin, especially the Murknob's?
It’s literally in this video.
@@cultofpaint I am sorry. Now I've realized that it was the same scheme as Gutrippaz.
