Since we don't have cable TV, we watch lots of homesteading/farming/gardening videos . From all the ones that have goats, I have to say that yours look the best, they look the healthiest, the cleanest, the plumpest and the most active and alert...and 'spoiledest' LOL! Had to make up a new word to describe them! We used to have goats and they never looked that good even as hard as I tried. You are going a great job with them.

Wow, almost a 30 min long video! I know there are a lot of people who think videos longer than 10 min is Too Long, but personally I Love longform videos, so this was lovely to be able to watch this morning while I was drinking my coffee and eating my breakfast. Thanks so much Al! While I've never edited a video Myself, I have an adequate understanding of the amount of time the editing and processing stuff takes, so your hard work and dedication and time are appreciated! :))

Always a pleasure to see how your day is going. I am also starting a small farm/modern homestead with my family. I am on over 5 acres and 3 need to be cleared. I have a kids wagon and a crappy craftsman chainsaw to work my land as I have only been on my new land for 6 weeks now.I have spent the last two days cutting down trees and I must say it is the most physical work I have done in my life but at the same time extremely rewarding. People don't understand the physical work you do everyday plus you have to set up the cameras for filming and then the time you spend editing your daily filming. You must be exhausted by the end of your day. I would like to take this time to say thank you for teaching us and sharing your experience with us!.

all that bonus firewood! Its an awesome thing! Those are the metal rims, or shoes I call them, that went on wooden wagon wheels, we had double rock walls like that on our property in Maine and they were actually an old road. It was not uncommon for wagons or old cars to break down going thru these ole roads and they would throw their broke down "vehicles" up on the rock walls out of the next travelers way. We had everything from wagon wheels to model A's littering our walls at my farm in Maine. You sure put that old excavator to the test on those boulders there, lol. Great video Al, brought back lots of wonderful memories! :)

The lane is really cleaning up nicely. It's cool that you found some treasures from times gone by. It would be neat if you could use those old wagon wheel rims for something decorative on the property. I'm envisioning a nice wooden sign made from some of the wood you have cut on the property with "Lumnah Acres" and silhouettes of Moose and a pig and a goat burned into it suspended from chains inside one of the hoops. You could install it near the driveway. I loved the leaf blower trick to get the fire going. Now that's some good old fashioned Yankee ingenuity right there! I'm going to have to remember that. Thanks for sharing your journey with us Al. It's great to see all that you're doing. - All the best. ~ Theresa

You are right. The dinner table is the most important communication tool in a busy household. We have always sat down together as a family to eat and chat even and especially when we had hectic work schedules. Often happened at 2030. Still does, but we all get our chance to have our say and stick together. You have the right idea. Regards Stephen.

Hi Al. Here in Barbados the time doesn't change. We have no winter either, there is a wet season and a dry one, and hurricane season of course. It is raining quite a bit here now and I am taking advantage of the wet earth to pull up as much of that elephant grass as I can. I pull it by hand and when the ground is soaked the roots pull right up and don't break off. I want short grass by the house and a couple of hibiscus bushes so that is what I am working towards for next year.

Al, not sure if I missed it or not, but if you cook your flour and butter mixture for a few minutes it will get rid of the flour taste in the roux and it will thicken the soup better, also you can make the roux darker if you wish and that makes a stronger flavor. just saying...

Good Moring Al , I had my first snow during the ight . About 1/2 " on the ground . Of course it was gone shortly after sunrise. But , it's a harbinger of things to come. Ha ha , I'm already looking forward to spring ! I have some random thoughts for you. Some you may like and some you may not be so fond of . Planting some flowers in and around the rock walls as has been suggested would indeed look good come spring. Some , such as tulips and daffodils you ca still plant now. I have even planted tulips into partially frozen ground which grew just fine. I tend to plant perennials so I don't have to keep planting flowers. Many different perennials would look good in and around those rock walls.
I have been watching you at work clearing away the brush , brambles , and saplings from the area of those walls and I've thought of something. Next spring all of that stuff will start growing back ! You might consider placing the electric fence around those rock walls and turning the goats loose next spring to keep the new growth down so it doesn't just grow back .
About DST . I think that most countries do not have it . But , did you know that some countries also do not have time zones ? China does not . So when the sun rises in eastern China say for example at 7:00 A.M. in western China it is also 7:00 A.M. but still dark. So the sunrise in western China is not until about 10:00 or 11:00 A.M.
I have no idea of how they cope with that .

Those wrought iron rings are properly called tires, since they fit over the wooden wheels.
You can name those big rocks, the Mount MonadRocks. They are mountains. They can be a landmark on your homestead.
I used the big rocks to delineate corners of the driveway. The chipmunks cover them with pine and fir seed husks. They like the high perch. They sit their chewing on the seeds and chewing anybody out for coming near.
Chicken and gravy over rice. We just call it "Somethin' with chicken" dinner. Substitute potatoes occasionally. Great for breakfast leftovers.

That chicken and rice surely looked good, but pickled beets - not so much. That is one of my childhood aversions I still haven't shed. They used to act as an emetic for me, but now I can manage to get them down if the situation demands it.
That looked like a scythe blade to me; I've never heard that tool referred to as a 'sickle bar'. Those hoops were huge whether they were from wagon wheels or some kind of monster barrel. I still think you should add some of those boulders you're digging up to your goat rock pile.
I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching your family develop your homestead. I wish you all the best.

Here in Arizona we do not change our time. We also had the wettest October on record!

I just love big bonfires! We built a pit and that’s where all of our brush and stumps go. My hubs will use a weed burner thing to start it or sometimes a flare😜... either way it works!

Al, use those rims to make either a two hoop dinner bell,or rig you up some sort of wind chime.
