    Nice Peter! Great to see you get on some nice Cod, and to get your wife in on the action! Looks like a blast!

      Thanks Dan, this really was a FUN trip! Would.ve still been an awesome trip to take home a bunch of sea bass but the cod was a really nice bonus. I have only caught a couple cod ever and I think this was first time I got 2 in one trip, they really are seemingly difficult to find unless you get them on their spawn where they gather in massive numbers, but those events are hard to time as well. From what I've heard, their behaviour to spawn in massive numbers could have changed because of trawling

      Haha thanks Sean, I think so too! Prob can’t tell bc of all the edits but there were times when I was really feelin the captains playlist, it really does go well with this type of fishing

    That looked like a ton of fun! Some of those sea bass coming up were jumbos. Nice cod to mix it up too. Looked like you went home with a decent amount of fish!

      Bob ! Thanks for stopping by to say hi man, this was so much fun, I really enjoy deep water vertical jigging. You really just never know what you might hook into when your out there in the ocean, and I was super excited to get some cod. We had an awesome time and an awesome meal that night with plenty to give away and some to vacuum seal and freeze for later. I really was impressed too how the captain hovered us over these deep wrecks without anchoring

    Hi Pete, fun video! Always did better with bait when fishing the Oregon and San Diego wrecks. Democrat Point was hot last week for sea bass. Hoping for a good day tomorrow.

      @PeterRanieriII  3 года назад +1

      Hey there! I tend to agree that bait will do better on most wrecks. Jigs are not cheap either so if its a sticky wreck it may not be worth it or you just have to work it higher up the water column. That one wreck towards the end though where I used the glow jig I was out catching the bait so sometimes the jig can be better, but most times bait is better - the jig is just so much fun, lol. You were getting sea bass off the beach down there?! That's amazing, get them while you can, our days are numbered!

      @@PeterRanieriII Actually we were on my brothers boat looking for stripers. And trying to use up all our frozen bait. No striper action on boats and didn’t see any beach action but the sea bass were plentiful.

      @@LI-FLKayakFisherman ah i see, still thats really good, and emptying the freezer of old bait is good as well. Yea stripers have been spotty it seems this fall

    Nice change of pace, getting cold for the yak. I got into a nice 23” black on Sunday in 50’ and swift current and was wishing I had brought my AVET instead of my little Corrado K

      @PeterRanieriII  3 года назад

      Hey DG, yea it is getting cold fast! I miss being on the yak and I did get a drysuit but the weather really dropped suddenly, not sure if going to be able to get out much more...WOW thats a monster sea bass, you got it in our area of the Sound?! Yea Avets are great reels for deeper/faster water, it's so nice to have a power handle that gets a lot of line per crank. Maybe a power knob on your curado would help?

    Over the weekend, a new state record tautog was caught. Almost 22 pounds. I might get out over the Thanksgiving weekend for cod and seabass.

      Hey Josh, yea man thats crazy! In Rhode Island right? Would be so cool to fight a tautog that big, I hope you get out man, I think you should do well around that time if the weather holds up

    Awesome Pete! That accidental throw back was funny.
    I don’t think I’ve eaten cod that wasn’t salted and dried. How does it taste fresh?

      @PeterRanieriII  3 года назад

      haha she was like: I'm so tired of you bringing home porgies, this guy is going back. I was in the keeping fish mood this day lol but it's ok the sea bass and cod were so delicious. Fresh cod is hard to beat man, I think sea bass is maybe a little sweeter tasting and the cod is blander but personally, that's what I like in a fish, and it's super flaky and white. Whatever you season it with it will pick up that flavor. Soooo good
