The weird thing is, the '91 team had the same 8-8 record but a much better point differential, and yet it seemed like the '89 team could've easily won 2-3 more games. But when they got whipped they got WHIPPED, with losses by 32, 29, 20 and 17.
One of those losses was to the Steelers 😀. Indy looked like a rising star in the late 80s before crashing in 1991. Miami should never have hung on to Shula as long as they did. I say Dallas was putrid with a huge grin on my face but they had some young talent. They would be going places a few years later.
Joel Myers and Paul McGuire on the call for this game on NBC . Man Don Shula facing Raymond berry who was on the Baltimore Colts day. Tony Eason John Stephens a young Doug Flutie Cedric Jones can't forget about Steve Logan way before Bledose and Tom Brady . Young generation don't know about the old school Pats during the "Sullivan Stadium "days and most games at that time didn't sell out. True NFL facts and history.
The fans here almost seemed to be rooting for the Pats to lose, the video doesn't lie. Anybody who says they've been a Pats fan longer than 25 years or tells you Pats fans were always faithful is straight BSing you.

Seven carries into his NFL career and Smith gets hurt. At that point everybody should've known it was a bad omen. And how awful was the sideline reporting back then for the announcers to not even know he was hurt until the game was almost over? Yeesh...
Eason’s arm was never the same after his major shoulder injury against the Raiders in ‘87. He used to have an incredible arm and he doesn’t even seem like the same guy here. His throwing ability completely deteriorated. The injury ruined his career.
I actually still have newspaper clippings of this game, thanks to my DolFan granddad who would send them to me from the mid '80s to the mid '90s. Ernest Gibson was an ex-Pat in his first season in Miami and Shula used him to bait Feagles into making the decision to throw, it was all planned believe it or not.

@@DIMP11 From '89 to '93 no NFL team had fewer wins than the Pats, not even the Bad News Bucs. Not only that, but they were the only team to have fewer than 20 wins during that span. The world was just a far better place back then (sighs).
All they would have had to do was switch those blues and reds and replace the whites with silvers and those patriots uniforms would have looked awesome.... 😎
In his defense it's not as if the Pats got better after replacing him, in fact they got a lot worse. I do love how Ray Berry was all, "I won't let the fans bully me into starting Flutie!" and then did just that after only one more game 🤣🤣🤣
These games are great and they bring back so many memories. God Bless the Miami Dolphins and thank you so much for posting!
I’m super pumped for these 1989 games! One of my favorite seasons! Thanks a lot
I like it because Dallas was putrid.

To be fair, the Pats have been so dominant for so long that anyone under 30 won't even remember this period of team history at all.
Man if Sammy could have just learned to hold onto the ball.
Sammie Smith’s first ever carry if I recall correctly. I was so excited! Thanks for these games
Had high hopes when Sammie Smith joined Dolphins.
