Although the Asa character and the Buchanans became a core family on the show, there's much more going on here off stage than we realize. The introduction of Asa and the rest of the southern Buchanan's competed against the debut of NBC's new soap, Texas, starring superstar Beverlee McKinsey. In the end, "Asa' beat "Texas" to smithereens!
This was during a time when OLTL was something special, this time through the 80s and 90s. You knew and liked ALL of the characters. You could get involved with them and their problems. Llanview wasn't overrun with silly teens and their idiotic problems. Llanview just isn't the same anymore.
@bluenail03 That is SOOOOOO true!!! The Buchanans came when a new writer took over OLTL. The traditional solid story lines of 1968 thru 1980 were officially over! It was as though the first 10 years of OLTL never existed! Try and find old footage from the first 10 years....Good luck!
@@pospatty that's what ABC often claims about a lot of shows including American Bandstand....I'm not totally convinced by the fire story as thankfully, more and more footage is being released and posted on You Tube...Some recent OLTL pre-Buchanan footage recently was hung...Check it out.
@@mrob75 yea I did see some clips of viki & Joe riley when kevin was born ! I have never seen oltl ever show flashbacks that far but I saw it on yt so maybe someone has it. Although the quality was not tv quality I cant remember bc I was not born yet but people have recordings of old stuff from the 60s & 70s they put up. I have no idea how they do that bc beta machines were in the 70s & vcrs the early 80s . I have never gotten to see one scene of victor lord from b4 he died or the day he was killed ( by a different dorian I believe)
@OLTL100 Dani is 15. :) Nora and Bo aren't acting like teenagers. Blair maybe ROFL! I liked the KAD storyline. Viki's husband is back on the bottle so, Viki has a storyline. Teen drug story? You mean with Cole? I liked that storyline too. His withdrawls were awesome. :)

The ABC studios where the film/video was stored was destroyed by fire. Google it. That is why much of the late 60s and 70s is missing.
