XRTC Symposium 2024 - Nesra Yannier

At this year's annual XRTC symposium, Nesra Yannier, a Senior Systems Scientist in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, shared her extensive expertise. With undergraduate degrees in Physics and Computer Engineering, an M.S. in Computational Sciences & Engineering, an M.A. in Learning, Design & Technology, and a Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction, her multidisciplinary background is impressive. Nesra is dedicated to developing innovative educational technologies and learning experiences that bridge the physical and virtual realms to enhance children's learning and engagement. Her contributions have earned her a Mister Rogers Scholarship (Emmy’s College Television Awards) and an Innovation Fellowship from the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship, aimed at advancing her Ph.D. research for societal benefit. Her work has received support from the National Science Foundation as well as various organizations, including PNC Grow Up Great, EQT Foundation, Grable Foundation, and Sprout Foundation. Nesra's educational technologies, specifically the Intelligent Science Stations, have been shown to improve learning outcomes by five times compared to traditional screen-based technologies. These innovations are currently being implemented in numerous museums, science centers, schools, and after-school programs, positively impacting millions of children and families across the US and Europe. This presentation showcases her work on Norilla to industry leaders, promoting engaging discussions.
