Yes, I'm from Missouri and we always used the term "pallet" for laying blankets on the floor. We did this all the time when we were little kids and it was lots of fun.
I’ve never heard of this pallet experience either?? Pallet is exactly what Tim was explaining from Home Depot 😮- this is so new to me too! Nick you’ve introduced so many new things to many of us!! Thank you
I'm a Midwesterner born in Illinois and we have always called it a pallet, my granny is from Kentucky and a lot of my family is in Missouri. Nick is just a Midwestern King Growing up in Indiana my friends and their families also referred to them as pallets, and at sleep overs we would often make pallets to lay our sleeping bags on for extra padding! Hope this helps for all the friends who didn't experience this.
Im from KY and growing up we always called it a palette 😊. I always thought everyone called it that until I got older and figured out it was mostly from the south ish areas of the US.
Pallets are definitely a thing in NW GA, and NE AL where my grandmother was from. She had a big one with about 6 of us when the cousins came to visit once!
Glad you all have had a chance to see the new “Wicked 1” movie. The Broadway production of “Wicked” is so magical. PLEASE, DON’T suggest remaking an absolute classic movie,”The Wizard of Oz”. Accept the amazing craft of this classic movie…not everything needs updating.
I totally agree. I also hope people understand that "Wicked" is not L. Frank Baum's children's story "The Wizard of Oz". Someone took his story and decided to make a totally different and much darker story using his characters. If he were alive, I'm not sure he would like what people did to his stories, just like Disney devotees would not like their characters being made into something they were not designed for.
You’re definitely correct. The Wizard of Oz is a children’s story whilst the “Wicked” novel is definitely for mature readers. Thank you for telling all.
Yes, pallet = pile of blankets on the floor = “ pile it” I’m 47 lived in Kentucky my whole life. We are southern speaking so try it, say “pile it” with a southern accent. There you are 😊
Senior, East Coast of Canada here. Never have I heard that word used for make-shift bed. I would expect a picnic if someone put blankets on the ground. We use cots or reclining lawn chairs (lounger) for the kids to lay on when camping or out under the stars when watching for shooting stars. I only know the wooden shipping plinth use for pallet and the palate mouth variety. Thanks for the chat guys.
The breakfast experience with the grinch is such a fun time. All the characters are great, the food is great. It’s worth it, especially if you’re a pass holder (even if you’re not). I 100% recommended it. We brought the grinch onions, dressed up & the reaction was priceless. So much fun.
And because I can’t not google, google says it came from medieval times when servants or the poor would sleep on a bed of straw at the foot of their masters bed. It comes from the Middle English word paillet, which comes from the Anglo-Norman word for "bundle of straw". The Anglo-Norman word comes from the Late Latin word palea, which means "straw”.
Pallets, my friend from Arkansas made me a pallet when I stayed the night at her house. Me from colorado was so confused! But I learned about 20 years ago what a pallet is although I don’t use the term.
I can’t believe people have never made pallets on the floor during sleepovers!! That’s my childhood 😂 I didn’t know there was a world where people didn’t know what that was
The place that Nicks thinking of near Hershey is Cooperstown NY! It’s where the National Baseball Hall of Fame and museum! I feel like if you’re from NY, you have more than likely been there lol
Pallet: noun, 1: a straw filled tick or mattress or 2. A small hard or temporary bed. We got your back Nick! I think it’s an “older term” kinda of like Davenport for sofa, not used so much today.
Earl the Squirrel, similar to Prep and Landing, would be great as a short of a mini story. And yes, come to PA and visit Hersheypark! Williamsport (Little League location) is about 2 hours north of Hersheypark.
As an Englishman living in California I am always intrigued to hear Americans talk about their love of Christmas as about 90% of what makes up a British Christmas simply doesn't exist here at all. Christmas crackers, pantomimes, grandparents falling asleep on the couch wearing paper crowns, mince pies, pouring over the bumper Radio Times in advance to see what's on for the two whole weeks of the festive television, Christmas pudding, advent calendars (which are now sneaking in here), trifles, town centre shopping in the twilight cold, nostalgic rewatching of The Box of Delights, cosy nights at the local pub with friends by an open fire, a whole slew of Christmas songs from the 70s and 80s by bands such as Slade and Wizzard, boardgames on Boxing Day with the family, the midnight carol service at the village church, a proper turkey dinner. Most of all there is never the glimmer of the Yuletide magic that I feel back home. The USA seems to have watered the whole thing down to a transactional exchange of gifts. This isn't a criticism, just disappointment. Having now spent several Christmases here in the USA I am so very thankful that I have spent the majority of mine back in England. To each their own, I guess.
Potentially an unpopular opinion (and I know the Mississippi river marvel rule) but imagine retheming hulk to fly with Elphaba (at least the coaster is the right colour!😂) and making the whole of marvel superhero landing Munchkin Land / Shiz University / Emerald City!
Is writing a letter to santa still a thing? I was at the store the other day, and i little girl said she wanted something for christmas. Her dad goes ‘ok lets take a picture so we can email it to santa’.
I’m a Californian Lander who knows not a lot about what you guys cover, but ding dang……I just adore you guys.🤣❤️❤️❤️🌹 You play well wonderfully together.
Yeah I still get shocked that people like you have the audacity to be that rude. Rude people hiding behind a keyboard. Don't try to justify it, you are simply rude. He's a human being, treat him like one! Do you feel good about saying that knowing he might see it? And if you do see this, Nick you are great and this podcast is great because of both of you guys!
OMG I DON’T BELIEVE THE AUDACITY OF YOU…..WHO ARE YOU? ….Now, I think Nick is a good looking guy with a great job, a good marriage, with great kids, and totally a decent guy…….what I would consider a real nice person. 🙏🏽❤️🌲
Yes we make pallets on the floor for sleepovers 😆
Nick, I appreciated your "It looks Wicked" line. Ignore Tim not noticing and laughing at it 😆

The Treasure and Fantasy were both christened in New York, & I believe the rest of the ships were all christened in Port Canaveral!
I've never heard of blankets on the floor called a pallet.

Earl the Squirrel, similar to Prep and Landing, would be great as a short of a mini story. And yes, come to PA and visit Hersheypark! Williamsport (Little League location) is about 2 hours north of Hersheypark.
I’ve heard the term pallet used this way. Mostly in either British or Australian fiction.
Little League World Series is in Williamsport, PA

That is what we always called it growing up
Yes. We live in Alabama and also would call that a pallet.
I’m in the pallet boat with Nick. I’m 33, also, so it might be a certain age range that grew up with that term.
Yes earl the squirrel hmmm- Mickey the mouse- marketing
Wasn't he the squirrel from the National Lampoon's Christmas movie?

Not me waiting for Tim to talk about muppets but I know this was probably filmed before
Wish it was Tim and Jen podcast. Just something off about Nick..
