    Thank you for making this video, im an idiot so i thought i had to use the big screw to screw both the mount and dampener into the brace which kept causing the dampener sides to pop apart. It never even occured to me that i would need to use the allen key to screw the nut into the the brace.

    Based on your suggestion and others online, I bought a QuadLock for my mountain bike (bicycle). Installed yesterday and is so much better than my previous holder. Next I'm going to see how best to mount another QuadLock to my R1250RS. Seems your solution using the RAM mounts and socket might be the way to go. Currently I have a Chinese made insert that fits into the BMW GPS mount. The problem I have now is Apple decided to move the volume rocker lower on their new phones. My iPhone 8 wasn't an issue, but I recently bought a iPhone 12 Pro Max, which has the new volume button, which makes direct contact with the clamp of the Chinese made phone holder, so need a new solution and the Garmin SAT-NAV is not for me, I don't go on long trips into areas that don't have reception, so at $950 that's not for me. I typically stay around the Austin area and venture into the Hill Country around Lake Travis which has no problem with reception. Thanks for always posting useful info! Have a great weekend.

    Thank you for sharing your experience with us. As far as I know with iPhone (Samsung and others manufacturers also) you have to care about camera. It mean turn off any camera using app (even background) Image stabilization can be ruined that is known issue. Unfortunately QL dampener can't reduce that vibration - wrong frequency! only shock absorbing - good to have anyway ;-)

      All I know is on my S1000R it only took 1 ride with a rigid mount to ruin an iPhone XR. I then installed the QL Vibration Dampener and have not had the replacement iPhone XR camera fail after several rides. When I ride there is no camera app in operation, not even in the background since I kill all background apps automatically, whether I am riding or not.
      I understand what you are saying about attenuation frequency and yes it would certainly work against shock, but it also appears to be effective against continual higher frequency vibration as well. That has been my practical experience. Of I suffer a failure of my phone I will be sure and post an updated video.

      @@GrumpyGoat Thank you :-)
      I have RAM mounted on MT-07 on 3" arm (maybe less rigid than short 1") but I'm thinking about change for QL similar construction to yours but with longer arm.
      Conclusion - I'll consider QL Dampener (+-17€)

      I have experienced ruining my phone. You mentioned turning off any camera app and such. I don't understand what you are referring to bc I only used my phone to navigate GPS purposes only. It ruined my iPhone with no camera app turned on. Can you explain to me what I am doing wrong then?

    I heard of this anti-vibe mount but had not seen it. I currently have an older iPhone (8) and have never had a problem with my RAM X-Grip mount damaging my phone. It could be the older phone hardware/software or the RAM deals with vibrations better...BUT...the RAM is a pain to deal with. It takes two hands to operate and is inconvenient. I’ve wanted a Quad Lok for a while but plan to buy a new iPhone soon and was afraid of ruining it. Glad there is a solution.

    • @GrumpyGoat
      @GrumpyGoat  4 года назад +3

      I don’t like the RAM X grips at all, I must confess. They are too ugly/untidy to my eyes. The QuadLock approach is much more neat and discrete, although sometimes aligning the shapes at the mating connection can be a little bit of a pain. Only sometimes though.

      Totally agree about the aesthetics. I’m looking forward to trying the Quad Lock.

    Still working fine? After having a problem with the camera on two Iphone 11 and now on the Iphone 13 pro max, I realized that it was caused by the vibration. I have a Ram mount but I think now I need to go for a QuadLock. Thanks for the video, I always trust in your reviews.

    • @GrumpyGoat
      @GrumpyGoat  2 года назад +1

      Still working absolutely fine. On two bikes so different vibration frequencies, same phone and no issues. The RAM mount is not damped so it will kill any iPhone. You do need a vibration dampener.

      The iPhone XR camera is still working just fine. Many of my videos are shot with it. And that is after being mounted on both my bikes with different vibration characteristics. Fully endorse this based on my experience.

      @@GrumpyGoat Thanks for your response! If you don't mind I have another question. I just bought one of this, but when i tried I felt my phone swinging too much on it, so I was wondering if this is expected or not.

    • @GrumpyGoat
      @GrumpyGoat  8 месяцев назад

      @@ediogracie If the phone is vibrating a bit then that is probably fine. But it depends on the phone and the bike. The higher frequencies of vibration is what kills the camera on the iPhone. For instance I had an iPhone fail on an S1000R with a hard mount. When I changed to a Quadlock with the vibration dampener, there was no more failures. If you have more doubts you should contact Quadlock.

    Why don't you like riding wiith your phone in your pocket? Before the Nav V, i used it for GPS and music, and put it in the map pocket of the tank bag where it was connected to a charger. The NAV operates well enough and the phone stay in my pocket.

    • @GrumpyGoat
      @GrumpyGoat  4 года назад +1

      I don’t have a jacket pocket to put it in so I have to put it in the pocket of my pants, where it often gets twisted out of alignment with my leg and I have to adjust it. With riding jeans that can be a PITA. 🙂

    • @GrumpyGoat
      @GrumpyGoat  4 года назад

      nothius Was it an iPhone? I guess that the GPS was not a motorcycle GPS which can withstand the frequencies of vibrations that a motorcycle will produce, as opposed to almost no vibration in a car. I am surprised that the charger was affected.

    • @nothius

      @@GrumpyGoat No it was a Sony phone that I had for more than 2 years. First problem was the phone losing connection to the SIM card. Now the phone and GPS just randomly reboots. One of the capacitors in the USB charger got vibrated loose. I have a ram mount though so I'm looking into other solutions. I did not realize there are differences for motorcycle and car gps.
