Races were so special when Bob Jenkins and Benny Parsons were announcing. The excitement of Bob's voice, and his welcoming tone, Benny just sounded like the guy that if he wasn't your grandfather, you wished he was, such personable guys she's great commentators
Rest in peace John Andretti, always remember the great times when John was a competitor in racing and taking a finely tuned machine and experiencing the joy of success.
This was my first full season as a nascar fan..I was in 5th grade was Earnhardt thru and thru. Too bad he had 0 wins but he finished 5th in points and still hurting from talladega
I sometimes wish this race was held back during the middle of the day in the heat. I like it when they get spread out. It's like a chess match of drafting vs handling, the best handling cars stay up front but if you make one wrong move you lose the lead draft.
I do know that. I knew it way back in '97 when I watched it and I know it now. Main reason why they cut away from his feed so quickly. He said "god dammit" because Burton making it 3-wide took them from a potential top-10 finish and wrecked them on the last corner of the last lap. They took a hit in points because of it, and as later in the season proved, cost them possibly a championship.
I was there. John would have won Talledega earlier with a little help. It was him against everyone one else. They knew he was fast and was the one to beat so they made sure they kept him back. My brother-in-law was a big Gordon fan and going to the race I said John is going to lead some today and he said I bet he does not lead as many as Jeff at the halfway point I asked him what happened to Jeff. I wish Cale would have been at Winner’s Circle.
+Chris Dunne so, 2003 or 2007? 2003 was when a standardized body came out, but for me personally i loved the 2003-2007 cars. The cot's arrival in 2007 was the look a lot of people disliked.
The 1997 Pepsi 400 at the Daytona International Speedway was the last time a 4th of July NASCAR Race to be held on daytime, as the next few Daytona 400 Races were held at night-time. The final Daytime Pepsi 400 was jointly produced by Television and Production Exponents, Inc. and SilverStar Communications, Inc., and aired live, nationwide, and via-satellite on Citynet Television 27 on July 5, 1997, with an encore telecast on GMA Network on July 6, 1997. The Citynet Television 27 live telecast meanwhile was also aired on DZBB 594 Radyo Bisig Bayan and Campus Radio 97.1 WLS FM
Don’t mean to knock tradition, but if NASCAR races were like a third less than the total laps of most races they have, I feel It’d more intense and exciting
RIP John Andretti. What a great win this was!

The radio communications at the end of the race are priceless... "God Dammit!!!" "AHHHHHH"
RIP John Andretti
Hearing the ESPN Speedworld theme is better than anything nascar gave us since 2007
I love satellite feeds! Just being able to hear the conversations about the race in between the commercials. I wish I could find more of these!
Rest in peace John Andretti, always remember the great times when John was a competitor in racing and taking a finely tuned machine and experiencing the joy of success.
The sound of these cars man….
The Howl...🐺
RIP John Andretti.
If you listen to the cars they sound a lot better then they do today
Only cause the tailpipes were switched from the drivers side too the other side cause drivers were complaining about their seats getting hot
@@JJA1987 Yeah
This was perhaps one of the best starts in Billy Standridge’s cup career.
R.I.P. Billy Standridge
R.I.P John Andretti.
Rip john andretti
RIP Benny Parsons, my favorite announcer in NASCAR, maybe my favorite in any sport..
That last lap wreck cost Mark Martin the championship - the lottery of plate racing
Mark and Daytona never got along well compared to Talladega
Rip John Andretti and Benny Parsons
1997. My favourite Pepsi 400 of all time. Apart from 2001.
As yes, the GOD DAMNIT race.
Thanks for the upload! That was my first trip/race at Daytona
Andretti had a great car that day.
1997 produced 2 first time winners. Jeff Burton in the first race at Texas and John Andretti at Daytona
The Ray Romano of NASCAR. Watched this race live on tv and saw him win at Martinsville.
Ashstrodamus1 LOL
OH WE GOT A CRASH!
Trickle and Burton
GOD DAMMIT!
COME ON COME ONCOME ON!

1:15:36 Is that Norm Benning?
This is in surprisingly great quality
What I really miss is that if there was an accident during a commercial break. They’d cut the commercial and go right back to the race.
Yes this was a great race for him RIP
I do know that. I knew it way back in '97 when I watched it and I know it now. Main reason why they cut away from his feed so quickly. To be fair, Tony Furr ordering John Andretti to brake-check the field caused that scenario to unfold.

good racing there between these warriors ty
budamania1989 kyle Petty ran well
He said "god dammit," not "hot dammit."
And that was Martin's spotter who said it.
The last ever Daytona 400 on ESPN. RIP 1989-1997.
NASCAR needs to come back to this ASAP.
Wards hit at the end and just that accident was identical to the accident that killed Dale
What made them get less strung out? Mandatory spoiler angle/height? 1996 and beyond seemed like they stayed much more tightly bunched.
Last Pepsi 400 at Daytime.
why cant they race like this on restrictor plate races anymore?
Cale Yarborough's 1st & only win as a car owner
RIP Firecracker/Pepsi/Coke Zero 400 on ESPN/ABC 196(?)-1997.

NASCAR lost me and a lot of people when the cars they raced no longer looked real.
+Chris Dunne so, 2003 or 2007? 2003 was when a standardized body came out, but for me personally i loved the 2003-2007 cars. The cot's arrival in 2007 was the look a lot of people disliked.
Your right. Those cars were cooler. I'm reaching way back to the 60's and 70's though.
Well, why don't you watch IMSA Racing?
Totally do. And go to those races. Lime Rock mostly.
gen 5 car of tommorow looked like shit gen 6 has more brand identity
Doesn't even matter. NASCAR and ESPN/ABC are complete shit now. When I want my NASCAR fix, I just watch the '90s races up here.
Ward Burton's 1997 Season was Derailed in The Last Lap Crash
Does anyone know the starting lineup thene song/title?
Thanks for your time and help
I was hopping my driver Terry Labonte was gonna win but a damn good race anyway lol
its the 90sist thing ever!
