    This video hit me kinda hard. My youngest Aunt Donna would get so many of the glasses in this video. She went out of her way to do things like that for us kids. It's been just over a week since she passed, and seeing some of those glasses finally made me cry. Thank you for reminding me of a sweeter time and of a good woman's love of a bunch of brats.

    The Garfield mugs were from 1987. 1978 is the year the Garfield comic strip premiered. I wasn't alive through most of 1978 (I was born December that year) and I remember very well the Garfield promotion. We had the whole set at one time, but most of the glasses ended up breaking. Heck, Garfield's design was completely different in 1987 than it was in 1978.

    When I was growing up my grandma had Smurf glasses that my cousins, sister, and I would love to drink from, but since they were glass we wound up breaking many of them. One visit as an adult, my wife and I visited a local flea market and found some. We bought them to give to my grandma to replace ones we broke as kids. She told me to keep all of them, including the ones she still had. I have them in a cabinet in our house now. They have new sentimental value since she passed 2 Christmases ago.

      I didn't elaborate too much in this one, because I figured you knew about it (I thought you may have already covered it, in fact, since it was from the late 70s and early 80s) but there were nine buildings in total. Also, the mascot was a Wild West character named Waffelo Bill, and there was a bunch of great commercials for them. You may want to check out the history of this if you're oblivious to it...

    Speaking of fast food promos I recall in the late 80's Burger King would give you an ultra thin 45 record to play and it had their classic jingle about "special orders don't upset us" If you got the winning record it played all the way to the end you would win a prize but if you got a non winning record the jingle would stop about halfway through like the music stopped and the singers were bummed about it.

    My favorites that I keep thinking of tracking down again are the Garfield McDonald's glasses and the McDonaldland character glasses.
    We also had cool Phillies glasses in the 90's I remember from I think McDonalds, or maybe it was Burger King. But, it was the phillies logo and cool designs, one I remember most had like what I think they called zubaz design in the team colors. Wonder if they had those all around the country for various teams depending what area of the country?

    • @RetroDaze
      @RetroDaze  6 месяцев назад +1

      Sounds like a team-specific promotion. Depending on where you lived.

      @@RetroDaze Surprisingly it seemed to just be the Phillies, they came out in 1993. I did some ebay searching and tried plugging in about ten other random teams from around the country and nothing pops up.
      Looking at wiki now, looks like they were in the World Series that year, so must be why. They did lose though, to the Blue Jays, and just looking now, there doesn't appear to be any in that style for the Blue Jays neither.

      We try to keep the videos around 15 minutes or less, as people’s attention spans are not friendly to many subjects much longer on RUclips. For most videos, the average watch time is half the length of the video or less.
