This video hit me kinda hard. My youngest Aunt Donna would get so many of the glasses in this video. She went out of her way to do things like that for us kids. It's been just over a week since she passed, and seeing some of those glasses finally made me cry. Thank you for reminding me of a sweeter time and of a good woman's love of a bunch of brats.
My condolences. I empathize as I remember going out with my mom to collect the Arby's Christmas glasses and the Great Muppet Caper. I miss her and dad.
The Garfield mugs were from 1987. 1978 is the year the Garfield comic strip premiered. I wasn't alive through most of 1978 (I was born December that year) and I remember very well the Garfield promotion. We had the whole set at one time, but most of the glasses ended up breaking. Heck, Garfield's design was completely different in 1987 than it was in 1978.
I pick these up here and there when I see them. Got a really cool '78 Superman movie one at an estate sale for a buck. Not gonna drink out of any of them for sure, but they make great display pieces.
When I was growing up my grandma had Smurf glasses that my cousins, sister, and I would love to drink from, but since they were glass we wound up breaking many of them. One visit as an adult, my wife and I visited a local flea market and found some. We bought them to give to my grandma to replace ones we broke as kids. She told me to keep all of them, including the ones she still had. I have them in a cabinet in our house now. They have new sentimental value since she passed 2 Christmases ago.
Sorry to learn of her passing, but it is fantastic that not only did you find some years later, but you also got to keep the ones she had. Very special for sure.

Also some Loony Toons glasses floating around here. I think everyone on the planet had those. I can remember going to a friends house and that was the glasses we drank from at dinner.
