- I got keys to our crazy plant shop! In this video, I share the journey to get here and finding the right space, setting it up and a quick tour of the shop.
When I decided to quit my corporate job to pursue opening up a plant shop one day, I had this dream and vision that I didn't just want any other plant shop. I wanted to create a space where everybody knows your name, a shop where you can just hang out, be surrounded with beautiful houseplants and great people, maybe one day add a little cafe or bar. A place where I can host workshops, or have a propagation station, like a build a bear.... It might take us some time to get there, but for now, this is the first stage, finding the space and starting to set it up.

So your gunna need a merch area… some of your plant pictures on the wall, a prop corner, maybe some pots and a potting-up space? A rare and unusual plant section… I’m so excited for you! Congrats!!

Also yea I think a nice backdrop on one of the walls would be perfect for promotion/marketing. Then people can take pics with their plant purchase and tag the shop on social media. Maybe a hedgewall with the name of the shop on it or something

This is an amazing idea and I hope he sees it. Could also organize contests and prizes based on best picture of your plant purchase. Best photo gets a plant or maybe a small gift card to the store or something. Helps encourage people to buy something and also get all the social media promotion from people tagging photos from the store.
Awesome idea. Then have people send in photos of their purchased plants one year later, a before and after.

Plant folks love showing off their plants on IG. This is a great idea! Even if he sets up one of those photo both apps on an iPad on tripod so you could just pop over and take pics on your way out and post it. Great promotion too!
I love this! How about a corner where customers can chose their plants, pick out their chose of pots and have them potted there. Perfect for a gift or activity for girl's shopping day fun.

For sure put a living wall up there at the entrance. Gives people the immediate feeling of walking into a peaceful, calming area. That place is super nice!

I love the space! Congrats! I think the living wall should be on the black wall with the lounge area. You should also have a propagation station and sell cuttings. A plant shop I went to had one and it was so cool!

CONGRATS!! Would defo do a living wall against the black brick wall and do some shelving on the white wall next to the window ! Maybe adding some railing or something to the ceiling to be able to hang loads of plants there ! So excited to see what you do with that space 🌱

corner to hang a (yours or a new one) string of hearts. Yours is such a dream it will speak volumes to
your customers, they will definitely both see/feel your plant magic . Oh yeah🤩🤩.
The seating area can be a perfect personal touch if someone paints a huge tree with large gold or beige branches and tree trunk.
there you can hang plants thus creating a living wall….but the trunk you could have your guest/customers
actually autograph with name, year of purchase/visit on the gold paper trunk…. A souvenir/dream show piece for you.
I know I just got carried away, this is only because like I said. I am extremely happy to see you unfold your dream TFS it with us.

I would do a living wall on the black brick right by your conversation area. People can sit there and marvel at your creation, relaxing and taking in all of the beautiful plants, a good relaxing conversation starter for sure.💚🙃
A nice backdrop would be so good in that plain wall! With a possible neon “crazy plant shop” light sign on the black wall😍

Personally I’d like you to have a logo on the wall along with a few floating shelves with some of your smaller plants. That makes a good backdrop for photos and it’s like an advertisement people can see as they walk past the storefront. No matter which way you go I know it’s going to be amazing. Can’t wait to see what you decide on. 😊

Congratulations. With your enthusiasm for plants I'm sure you will succeed. I love the idea that a customer can walk into the store and see the growing conditions for all types of plants. It makes it easier not to make a mistake and purchase a plant that won't thrive at home. Wish I was closer. I think your neighborhood is very lucky to have you. A living wall would look so cool. Your customers can watch it grow. 💚. Some waterfall fountains would look great too.
You should turn the back into a event place ! Where you can have plant paint nights, repotting classes, terrarium making, or plant care education 🤩

If you have the space, I love shopping for pots and plant accessories when I go to a new shop. And I think it’s really important to have an abundance of plants, plants EVERYWHERE! It makes the shop more impressive to have a very jungley, tropical vibe. Also it will help your sales if you have a wide range of prices. Everyone who comes in wants to leave with something, so be sure you have lots of affordable, and sometimes “bargain” plants available. Ok…that’s enough advice for 1 day! Your shop is going to be beautiful!…and your personality will certainly help make it so. Good luck! 👍🌿🌺
I worked with an esthetician that said a Golden pothos spread across or above the register area is good luck and brings financial wellness, she had a 5 star business on Yelp and was booked 6 months in advance. She had a beautiful golden Pothos and a very successful business just an idea 🤔👏🏼 congrats on the shop it’s very exciting!

You definitely want your living wall where people walking by can see it. In today's world, a "selfie wall" is a must.
That back space is amazing. You can host classes there. Also, are you going to be supplying pots and soil? You can use the back to custom blend soil for people.
I love the idea of a plant boutique. That is what you are doing--you are creating a buying experience. I would love to go shopping in Bodegas like you do for plants (we have none here) but more than that, I wan't an experience of buying a plant from a place where I feel that I am valued and my plant has had the best care.

Wow ! What a superb shop space you have ! The black block shelving looks great against white walls. A couch area with drink station and plant books would be fab ! Also a black metal square grill hanging from ceiling would match shelving but enable you to display hanging plants too ? I’m in Cincinnati, Ohio, which is about a 7 and a half hour drive from Toronto. My husband and I have talked before about driving up for a vacation and now I want to more than ever! Can’t wait to visit!

Definitely living wall should go on the white wall where you can see it from the street sidewalk and it would pop and get people attention. Your plant shop logo should be large on that black wall for sure with the hanging pots/baskets to accentuate it! Love the shop, congrats Cristian!

What are you naming the place ? It looks really nice.
You can put some big photo frames on the wall with wall hoops to put plant pots in. It can be a live plant art. You can keep changing the pots often. You can get ornate frames from thrift shops.

So excited for you! It would be a good idea to have pins with your logo, or little nicknacks on the check out counter, as well as displays on the wall for your merch. Maybe canvas bags, T-shirt’s, gloves, scissors, moister meters, your coloring book, gift cards, birthday cards. Have maybe around 2/3 tables in the middle of the shop to utilize the space and place plants on there too
For hanging plants, an inexpensive idea…attach long plain pipe or expandable closet clothes rod (painted black?) or shower curtain rods with fittings about 8 inches from walls or across window area. Hang plants galore along pipes. Or instead of painting the rods/pipes, cover the rods with a tube of gathered fabric (like a chandelier chain cover). Love using ideas that customers could imitate in their homes. Wish you would sell plant lights and timers, too (or samples and labels where they can be purchased elsewhere).

Beautiful space. I know you will do well. Idea for 'our plant shop, a cutting station where people can buy cuttings of plants they can't afford larger versions of and those who like the challenge of growing small things.
Love the shop layout.... Perhaps an island space in the middle for more plants display!
Hello Christian, I would suggest, putting some pothos trailing down the black wall and also have maybe three big pothos climbing upwards. Using different varieties would be very nice. You would have a very low maintenance wall. Please remember to pace yourself, I don't want to see you get burned-out! Another thought is get a larger print of your string of hearts....hang it.. Also,, you may consider putting small tables going through the center area for more plants.. Remember to keep taller plants to the sides of the shop.Have an amazing week. 🌸 🍃. Congratulations 🥳 🎊
P.S. Bring you FLF to the shop and put it close to the left wall as you enter the shop. Maybe repot it and give it some fertilizer. Oh, place a nice small sign.....not for sale on it. Once it starts to grow again, put an up-light behind it. So many ideas. 3-1-2 fertilizer.

Congrats Christian on your plant shop venture. I admire your willingness to take calculated risks to make it a reality. My vote is to put that great idea of a living wall on the brick wall. My humble opinion is that sheet rock wall may not handle the moisture over time and cause a mold issue. Also to add a small ceiling to floor water feature to promote humidity in the shop as well as relaxing ambiance. Best wishes!!!
Maybe offer a soil bar? Where ppl can mix their own soil? A living plant wall would be great on the white wall close to the window. Maybe a TV on the black wall for viewing your plant videos or other plantubers. It's looking great! Looking forward to the progress.

I'm so excited for you! I suggest putting mirrors on that north wall so that it reflects more of the afternoon sun from the south. And I suggest hanging plants above/around the lounge area, in addition to floor plants, of course!

I have three ideas for your space - sorry but my hobby is interior design :) so I can't help it:
1) the brick wall. It could look really beautiful if you painted it a dark teal blue. The green in the plants looks so good against the blue and especially if you pair it will terracotta pots.
2) on the dark brick wall, it could look really cool to have your logo made with moss art. You could also have it behind your till.
3) you have the IKEA vittsjö shelves. You can buy more of those shelves (but the smaller version with 4 boxes instead of 8 ). Then you can flip the new bookshelves upside down and put them on top of your existing ones. This makes it look like a tailor-made industrial shelf (and less like IKEA shelves), plus it gives you more space to show your plants.
No pressure, just some inspiration for your beautiful shop.

On the black wall spray paint in silver(or green) a negative space adansonii or some painted string of hearts. Or a whole wall of string of hearts on the black wall. Yass way to go!! So happy for you. Livin the dream!

for the empty wall : maybe a space for local artists to expose/sell their art and you take 15% of the sales ! a lot of restaurants, shops, coffee shops, etc do that in Montreal and its a great opportunity for both the store and the artist, its a joint exposure !

I love the idea of the living wall. However, I think you should incorporate a “free propagation wall.” Maybe with a purchase, customers can select a cutting. It’ll also offer another Avenue for plant talk, learning, and connecting ❤️

Next time I visit the province, your shop will be at the top of the list of places to visit. I'm just so happy for you! Congratulations! As for ideas, my first idea was obviously, MORE PLANTS, but like art too and pots! At first I thought that space left to the lounge would be useful for a coffee cart but then I was like, nope, pots more pots.
