    *Mickey Rourke* and *John Lone?* Yes, please! This is such an underrated film 👍

    Movie is a freight train that never stops!! One powerful scene after another!! Rourke at his charismatic best playing the kind of flawed “hero” that’s long gone from contemporary films. so
    many memorable lines
    and characters. easily one of the 80’s top ten

    John Lone was absolutely amazing in this movie.
    I really love this film and it is so highly underrated.

    If you didn’t spend any time in NY or SF Chinatown’s in the 70’s and 80’s, this movie may entertain but will never be understood. It was literally the most Chinese centered (by a million miles) Hollywood movie before the Joy Luck Club. The research, sets, Chinese actors and extras- incredible. Add to it the on location parts shot in Thailand- if you know anything about the history of the Golden Triangle, you should be massively impressed.

      Well Roger never actually published a review of it, or at least it's not available on his site. The only place where he mentions it in his review of The Sicilian, he says he liked the film there.

    I find similarities between Ebert's and Norn Mcdonald's accent. Can anyone explain?

  • @l.salisbury1253
    @l.salisbury1253 5 месяцев назад

    The main point of the movie was for Cimino to redeem himself after Heaven's Gate. Didn't quite happen. After Year of the Dragon Cimino only made three more films. They received minimal fanfare and distribution. His final movie The Sunchaser (1996) went directly to video Stateside!

    • @earlygail
      @earlygail 11 дней назад +1

      With all due respect this comes across as received opinion and revisionist history.
      The factual explanation is the standard one for a commercial failure:
      The studio thought it might make money, and it didn’t. They were not invested in Cimino “redeeming” himself.

    • @l.salisbury1253
      @l.salisbury1253 10 дней назад +1

      @@earlygail I was NOT revising anything! I remember when this film came out- Entertainment Tonight was harping on it ONLY as "Cimino's first film after Heaven's Gate" And NONE of Dragon's other attributes were even mentioned!
