I always was uncomfortable with the idea of asking the father’s permission to marry his daughter. The only person whose consent matters in this situation should be the bride-to-be (or not to be). Also hated the whole “giving her away” thing that the closest male relative does when they walk the bride down the aisle. Feels very sexist and outdated. However, I know this dude is quite literally over a century old so I can respect that he wants to adhere to traditions from his time.
