Nev helps Austin on terrain he feels comfortable with for his first run and gives tips and tricks on how to get your weight over your front foot and stresses the importance of using your upper body to ride in alignment. I need to spend a week with you.
Man, this guy is so clear and constructive in his instructions, at the same time detailed and empathetic in his perception of where the learning riders progression and learning zone is.
Wish i had gotten this kind of instruction when i was learning this, i would have progressed a lot faster.
Best snowboarding content on RUclips, hats off
Thanks for the awesome comment.
Please email us and I’ll give you a year of the our ADDICTION+ membership for free. With this membership you can train directly with me to improve your riding! Email support@snowboardaddiction.com and we will give you the code
That‘s why I came here to the comment section, just to say the same thing. Awesome teaching.
Nev is the shizzle when it comes to instruction, he provides unbelievable progression.
It's amazing how something that is completely second nature can feel so WRONG and alien. I've got hundreds and hundreds of days under my belt and 3 turns of switch riding is enough to make me feel like a complete beginner.
This is me. Yep. Definitely. But this year i'm about to change it. I never gave it too much effort, and I regret that now. Time to change it up.
Already on my longboard here in the streets i'm practicing switch, just to get my brain to 180 and make it realize we're really doing this :-D
@@Kah0ona haha same here but on my classic skateboard
I’ve rode for so long now and I’ve never tapped into learning switch technique. This last month I started and it gave me the drive to be addicted to going boarding all over again lol. It’s like starting all over!
This is great information. Thanks for posting . I’ll be using it on the hill. 🤙🏼
Make sense....
I’m an instructor at my resort and I love watching your videos, not only does it help improve my boarding and understanding, but also will be nice to teach my students better with different ways to explain moves🤙🏼
Just found this channel today. I'm currently teaching my 4 year old to ride. I've been riding since around 1992. I've learned a lot in just a few videos here and look forward to getting on the slopes with my son this weekend. This video series is so good for a rider who knows what to do but not why you do it. Thanks a lot Nev! You're awesome.
Love these videos that are focused on either beginners or just improving small stuff for us amateur+/intermediate riders. Especially these last videos with carving tips and swtich tips. Look forward to new videos on intro to jumps and spin tricks
I know this video is old but is still very impressive. I made it my goal to learn to ride switch this year. These videos have help me a lot. Thank you for being such a great and patient teacher.
Awesome! more great content to come!
My recommendation: Ride every second run in switch. After some days you don't even feel the difference anymore. Helps a lot with 180 and improvrs your balance in general
What about if your board is directional and your bindings are biased towards your normal stance?
@@nyreppin1 Try out the duck stance! I changed over to it after years of a more race board stance and never regret it.
@@jeopadierkneipeer1853 Great tip! Sounds pretty brutal, to do it every other run, but if it ends up that you don't feel the difference between regular and switch, i'm all for it
Came back to the sport after a 20y break and have teens and pre trans I was teaching. Your incredible l. Learned a lot of what I had taught myself is incorrect techniques. Fantastic teacher!
I tried going switch all day yesterday including the chair lift. What a mess. I felt like I was a hobbling bumbling first timer all over again.
it takes time haha keep at it!
Much love. 8 years... back on! Let's goooo best snowboard learning channel.
Holy moly, soooooo much improvement over what, like 8-10 minutes! I have the same problem as Austin. Feel super uncomfortable riding switch, like I'm gonna fall 24/7. This is something I need to try.
I learned to snowboard watching Nev and SA over 10 years ago, now I’m using those skills and his video to teach my kids. Amazing content SA, keep up the good work!
That is awesome!
Great video. I'm realizing that putting too much weight on my back leg is why my switch riding is so weak.
I was practicing switch yesterday for the first time, and today this one came up... Definetely gonna use it next time! Thanks Nev!
You guys have the best snowboarding content on RUclips! Great camera work, concise but meaningful tips, and quick learners for subjects! Definitely showing my kids your videos before we train them up on the slopes! (From Northern California/ Tahoe)
Your videos make me wanna keep practicing... I barely went boarding for my 2nd time this past weekend and your videos have been such a great help.
Great stuff. Had my son watching your vids today. I’ve been watching all of these. Teaching my son and nephew next week.
Great coaching through this, really good tip with the hand leading.
Watched you for years mate, your a genius, thanks 👍
I appreciate how thorough and clear the instructions are. Switch isn’t as intimidating as I thought it was. Thanks SA!
Nev, your videos are good for teaching instructors too. Thanks.
These videos are brilliant. I've just come back from a holiday and I felt really rusty and it took me much longer to get into my groove. I feel I've likely developed some bad habits. These videos are great at giving pointers and making me think about the basics again. I'll hopefully get away again in a few weeks to put these tips into practice.
Best switch riding instruction video !!! Thks Nev and Austin!!!
Didnt find better snowboard class on RUclips yet. Keep up the good work.
Hey Snowboard Addiction. That was awesome. I am from Brazil, due to covid I wasn't able to snowboard since I learned the basics in 2018 and I'm crazy to do it again. Would be mind-blowing to do a class with you, I watch the channel frequently, hopefully it will improve my riding.
I'm doing whatever I can to snowboard in march (vacation). Cheers!
I bought gear online and my snowboard from offer up and thought I was gonna tear it up my first time on the mountain.
Thanks to Nev and team @ Snowboard Addiction I returned last weekend to hit some blue runs....These videos actually work
Thank you so much! Really easy to follow and understand. Really great tuition!
You guys are the best 💪 thank you sooo much for this channel
Watching the video, I learned to drive a board, thank you to this man ... greetings from Serbia
Awesome camera angles. Whistler is so gorgeous and buried in ❄. Enjoyed! ✌🙏
That tap knee thing is integral. I remember doing that learning how to ride regular (instinctively) and it seems like it helps so much for some reason. It just makes you conscientious of it. I'm going to have to try that practicing switch.
Greta clear tips (as always); on my to-do list in a few weeks time, cheers, Neil
This was so helpful! Thanks much!
Absolutely amazing coaching technique. Very nice to see how the Austin progressed from only few "simple" tips.
I’m regular, and switch it the only way I know how to turn to the right. I haven’t figured how to toe turn yet. Only been riding once a year for the past 4 years though, but I love the sport. I live in the south.
Snowboarding takes time! But that is a great question to ask Nev. He could give you a far better answer than I could.
He does a live session every week on ADDICTION+ and can discuss this directly with you:

Wild that this is free
Whistler so beautiful! I need to go now!
I learned switch on my skateboard then when i tried it on the snowboard i was better than before!
Nev You are doing a great job 👍🙏🏂best regards from Poland
You always inspire me to go do try new things :)
I will thank you for doing this🤝. This helps me a lot i have nobody to ride with I lost almost all my friends in addiction. Siting alone in the hill and trying out switch for the first times touches my heart with this kind of support. Keep it up snowboard addiction ❤
Happy to help! Don't forget we have Whistler Ride week coming up in March, where you can ride with more of the Snowboard Addiction Community - head to our website for details :)
You are great teacher. Your videos improved my skills thanks so much!
You're very welcome! Thanks for your support!
Awesome instruction, mate!!
Went for my first time last weekend. I'm hooked, can't stop thinking about boarding. Can't wait to apply your lessons on the next rip.
don’t worry i’ve been riding 20yrs and i can’t sleep a week prior a ride day because im just too excited hahaha
Another great vid Nev
Was anyone else nervous for him? Lol
It was a great video though and you could really see the progression stage by stage and the improvement that went along with it as he took each instruction.
Great Video👍🏼Thanks
Great video!
great video very helpful
Good stuff🤟🏽
just tried switch today was perfect!!! but still still having trouble on riding flat with my switch
More Live Coaching with Beginners! thx
Thank you🙂
Perfect episod man
What a sick class dude!
Would be very nice to follow this guy progress. Make him start a channel, I am kind of on the same level. Will it be a serie?
10:49 - leaning into the downslope and committing for the heel to toe turn is key
me and Austin actually ride quite similar, gotta switch now
Impressive
The only way to learn how to ride switch, is ride switch, alot. No secrets here.
In the end yes, but it's still super valuable to have someone like Nev helping you to identify your mistakes.
@@iamtherobber3444 agree, a few small tips, like the 'knee tap'. It's been so long since i've learnt snowboarding (and had tips from somebody), i kinda forgot those things because they're so naturaly. But yeah; gotta put in the hours as well... no way around it..
I'm giving credit to the videographer that was smooth!
Im gonna try that “tap knee technique “ hahaha
There is very helpful lesson, thank you! What is this place guys, where was you riding?
Whistler
You can tell straight away the SBINZ style of teaching you follow Nev hahah
1. Put the weight in your front foot
2.sight= position
3.x twist the shoulder
*Mic Drop*
What binding angels do you suggest for someone starting out learning switch. I currently ride +15/-12
For switch what is the ideal angle back/front foot, and what kind of board?
Basically learning to ride switch is learning how to snowboard again. Best method i found is to ride switch only for a day. No excuses - you will be embaraced again at lifts, falling constantly with one foot strapped and riding at the speed of snail while your friends are having fun but it will be worth it. Eventually.
nice advance, still have some leaning back problem. but its just so counterintuitive.
keep working on it! snowboarding takes a lot of time so stay stoked and you will get it soon:)
Im 100% opposite. When riding switch the steep sections help my board turn more naturally without too much effort. Gravity assisted turns. The flats are harder when I'm riding switch.
Yeah same here. I can ride black slopes switch easily, but I can't handle a beginner level green 😂
@@0ffaI I'm getting a lot better at it. It just takes a few runs or so. Now I'm trying to ollie switch. Thats the most awkward feeling ever.
Dude, I'd pay and fly out to Canada to get you to teach me to snowboard lol.
Must be one hell of a photographer filiming this
i need a 1 on 1 lesson :')
Hi a question, so I am 175 cm tall. I weigh around 80-82kgs I like to ride advanced with doing a lot of tricks and all. What length on the board should I use for the best ride?
Go for a 152cm if you like doing spins, 155-158cm if you like riding groomers at high speeds.
What board is that you’re riding? What size?
🔝
Is switch the same as goofy when a regular rider ,or if a natural goofy is the boot to board different
Technically but it’s better just to call it switch
Hes not peddling his feet thats what helped me alot when I learnt and I always teach students that now
I had an instructor show me that once. I wasn't a fan of it. My board didn't have a lot of torsional flex. Does that make a difference?
what do you mean by peddling?
@@-tr0n edging your front foot before you edge your back foot... like a wave
@@homealone5087 Ah, yeah I do that naturally, at least when I'm riding my normal stance!
how is your board glowing O.O ?
Great vid as always. Unfortunately the situation for going snowboarding is quite bad in europe. 😭
Do you recommend adjusting your bindings for riding switch? Do you decrease your front foot angle?
Just set them as a 15/-15 duck stance and it'll feel natural to ride either direction.
@@MW-qr8bu aight, gonna try that on Saturday
@@MW-qr8bu BTW, had 2 great days of riding switch that we
@@mistasomen woohoo👍 now start learning cab 180s. Start the trick riding switch and land in your normal stance
I don’t understand how everyone gets heel edge so easy. Toe edge is super easy for me. I think that’s because I’m used to buttering into a toe edge tho.
it's more natural to be facing the direction you are traveling - this is normally why people find heel easier to start with!
always put ur weight on ur front foot. or. in the mid 😃
Idk but riding switch comes easy for me
Do we need to have both feets at 15 degrees to ride switch? because usually we are 15/0 and not 15/15
@@SnowboardAddiction Thanks for your reply, no i never tried changing my 15 degrees angle, i would try it if you recommend it, what it is usally recommended to try? more or less then 15?
My problem is every time im riding switch my muscle memory fucks me up cause obviously the lead foot changes when going switch but my muscle memory still "remebers" wrong foot as leading one witch f's me up...
Keep forcing yourself to practive switch until it becomes normal for you
He’s literally not leaning on his right foot at all. He’s cramping up and leaning into the mountain. When I learned switch I just turned my bindings around and only rode switch all day. After 4 hours it was way easier, and after 8 it became much better. The muscle aches though…
Hello everyone! Who can tell me how to choose the wright angle to ride switch?
15/-15 is my ideal stance, but 12/-12 works well for a lot of people too.
@@MW-qr8bu thank you
I have been trying switch for a few seasons, always feels alien :/
Hiii
Instead of leaning into the turn with he’s arm he is pointing his arm like a Dalek
At least he isn't yelling EXTERMINATE
"These are literally his first switch turns" - Nev.....Like a minute beforehand Austin had said he had ridden switch a few years prior but wasn't super comfortable on it...lol. I just thought it was kinda funny. That being said, great advice from Nev.
Hi! I was wondering if you could help me? I wanna talk with you privately... is there an email I can contact?
how to ride switch: ride switch.
Gosh, this scenery is SO DISGUSTING!
I think the rider (Ausitn) should be riding goofy. His left foot is taking over or at least looks like it wants to take over.
